This episode - it's only been 24 hours, but this is the podcast that couldn't wait. We report in on an event 35 years in the making - the Superdimensional orchestra.

About half-way through the podcast at the moment, but had to stop to say thanks for the thoroughly detailed review of the event. Very much appreciated!

It made grown men cry.

Oh, there was also some new animation too.

Only had time to look at your pics from the event so far.....but as of now...this has to be the Macross collectible of the year....

Did any of you score a set?  I would be interested in one if you have any extras.

Thank you so much for posting the concert event summary. I got chills when you were describing the SDF-1 coming out of the shadows in the beginning of the movie timed to the music.

I can only hope they do a Blu-Ray release of the event, totally regret not finding some way to make it there.

Again, thank you for taking us (virtually) there. Tom sure knows his Macross music!!!

This thread and this podcast makes me wish I was born in Japan. Utterly bananas.

This episode of the SpeakerPODcast - we report back from JUNNA's first solo gig, meet anison legend MiQ, talk some Megazone 23, debate the merits of Mylene's new voice actress in Uta Macross, look at some new toys, show Tomonori Kogawa some Southern Cross rain boots, and catch an exclusive theatrical screening of 1989's GUNHED. How does it hold up?

Tune in to find out :-)

What covers did JUNNA do for her concert? I got the first two, but the last one I'm not hearing it right (hearing 'daniel'?).

That's right :-)

Maaya Sakamoto's "Danielle."

Ok, I was thinking it was another May'n song. Thanks for the correction.

It took some searching, but found it and not bad. I hope JUNNA's next album has a few non-macross covers on it. Next album on the docket is the OST for Magus Bride.

I remember GUNHED.  Bought a VHS copy at a video store that was closing down with no prior knowledge what it was and only going by the logo on the tape.  Could have sworn that it spent too much time as a squad based action movie before the robot even showed up and so dark that I had to adjust the brightness of my TV.  It could be worse though.  Half jokingly, has there ever been a theatrical screening of something with the quality of M.D. Geist in recent years?

Thanks for coming and posting this guys. I enjoy your stuff and appreciate the time stamps.

A real shame about the new Megazone kickstarter not being successful. They should open up for non Japanese donations to get it done.

One aspect of Macross and Japanese culture that we often get asked about by listeners is that of idols.

Well, this documentary recently popped up on Netflix and is pretty decent. It only covers a snapshot of a very recent moment in time when it comes to idol culture, which has decades of history, but it's worth a watch imo nonetheless.

Regarding the Megazone crowdfunding that made 50% of it's ask in the last 24 hours. I find this is getting to be pretty common. What is happening is that the founders of the Kickstarter are holding back funds from other investors as a just in case it looks like they won't make their goal. They try to earn as much as they can without using that money to maximise their earnings. If the kickstarter looks like it's going to fail, they get that investor to pledge last minute to save it. I think that's what happened with the Megazone Kickstarter. I seriously doubt they got that much from last minute backers.

They could have planned to fund it all along, but reached out to fans to reduce their investment as much as possible.

But do those fans share in the profits from the ancillary toy, music and video sales?

This episode - we report live from the site of the Macross Delta movie announcement (and bump into a certain SNN reporter in the process), see DYRL at the cinema, and discuss the announcement of Juushinki Pandora.

Just finished listening. Adrian's comments about seeing Macross in 35mm were great. Never realized I was missing out, and hopefully I get that chance to see it in 35mm one day. Thanks for the PodCast everyone!

Thanks for that! Was in a rush trying to get the cast up and forgot to post about it. Again, thanks for the catch. Really appreciate it :-)

The next podcast will be coming in about weeks time.
In the meantime, I've posted our photo galleries from the recent Super Dimension Convention.
