jenius Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) I thought about commenting on the controversial head but when I compared it to the line art it seemed spot on. I realize there's some line art out there that might differ, and there's the always shifting portrayals in the show, but what's a toy company to do? So, instead of commenting, i provided a pic showing the head in close up from both the side and front. As to a release tactic, it sounds like a complaint about the company and since the company appears to be defunct, why kick 'em when they're down? Also, I don't really get the controversy. They released the toy both as stand alone and gift-set, seems like the right way to go to me. Edited March 8, 2013 by jenius Quote
Chronocidal Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 (edited) Ok, so... due to the sudden stock market shenanigans, the yen to dollar rate is looking extremely good at the moment. Currently sitting at 96 yen per dollar. And HLJ has the VF-17D (pack and non-pack versions) in stock again. Think I'm going to go ahead and complete Diamond Force then. I would go for another super pack version, but I think one set is probably enough. They look cool, but not $40 extra worth of cool. Edited March 10, 2013 by Chronocidal Quote
ErikElvis Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Better hurry. Things getting discontinued at HLJ. Even the Fire valk. As far as the D head I never liked it from pics but it does really look good in person. Quote
Mommar Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I'd like a third 17, especially considering we have no idea if any more 17's will ever be produced, but i just can't justify spending that kind of money right now. Quote
Chronocidal Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) Eh, it's looking like them being back in stock may have been a typo. Either I got one of the very last ones, or they never had any to begin with, because the VF-17Ds are both listed as discontinued. I got an email confirmation of my order for a plain 17D, but despite sending it in early monday morning Japan time, I've got no charge to my Paypal account as of yet. Edit: Scratch that, looks like it went through in the past couple hours. Phew. I'd been waiting for something worthwhile to ship with my VF-19P and those 1/200 sets that went on sale. Sad to think though, this might be the last big Yamato purchase I'll ever make. Edited March 11, 2013 by Chronocidal Quote
Phalanix Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) AmiAmi had the best price for the 17D w/super packs. It was 22625yen compared to the 21100yen for just the 17D. It was almost like getting the super packs for free. Picked up two to complete Diamond Force, didn't really like the 17's (nor their pricing) but ended up getting them for collective purposes and lineage to the 171. Plus with Yamato stepping down, who knows what'll happen with their 1/60 line. Edited March 12, 2013 by Phalanix Quote
Valkyrie Magnus Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I got my first Yamato VF-17. I like it a lot HK Collectibles had it for a great price. Thanks to Jenius for the how to transform video to help me! Quote

Looks like HLJ still has the VF-17D w/ Super Pack up for grabs... http://www.hlj.com/product/YMT00235 Quote
Valkyrie Magnus Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Looks like HLJ still has the VF-17D w/ Super Pack up for grabs...http://www.hlj.com/product/YMT00235 Not anymore. I clicked buy and checked out and it now says discontinued. Quote
Phalanix Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Looks like someone got the last one! Wonder why HLJ didn't indicate low stock instead of in stock. Quote
Valkyrie Magnus Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I wondered that too. Well at least I got 1 if not the last on HLJ Quote
arrow Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I got my vf-17s. Love the heft and details. Together with the vf-19, it's the best of both worlds. The detailing of Yamato and the heft of a chogokin bandai. Quote
plutoniumhunter Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I got my vf-17s. Love the heft and details. Together with the vf-19, it's the best of both worlds. The detailing of Yamato and the heft of a chogokin bandai. Lovely. Mine's still in the box at the top of my cupboard... Quote
Valkyrie Magnus Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 No worries just take it out and watch the anymoon video instructions and get frustrated with the hip hinges in your first time transforming it. Once you get use to it you'll be fine Quote
plutoniumhunter Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Someday... Kind of lazy to actually, since I would only be in my current location for about 3 more months, and after that I'm moving out again, and that would be the time I finally take it out Quote
Mommar Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Impressive patience. I would have been flying the thing around in fighter mode at the very least right now. Quote
SaitouSad Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Totally in the same boat as plutoniumhunter here. Will be moving soon, and toys are packed in between places. Won't get to play with my recent Valks much in the mean time Quote
plutoniumhunter Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Impressive patience. I would have been flying the thing around in fighter mode at the very least right now. I did succumb to the temptation for the VF-1A Cavaliers, but that also was down to checking if the Valk was alright, labelled as "box damaged" at Mandarake at all... Totally in the same boat as plutoniumhunter here. Will be moving soon, and toys are packed in between places. Won't get to play with my recent Valks much in the mean time Lol most of mine are still in bubble wrap, in anticipation for a box-ride home... Quote
Mommar Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I don't even have the boxes for my Valks I could use for moving. I'm kind of stuck where I am I guess. Quote
Scyla Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Just fold away with your whole apartment! A DX Chogokin YF-29 should be able to do that... ...man that sounded like a total nerd. Quote
Chronocidal Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Not as nerdy as you might think. I love HLJ's sturdy shipping boxes, so I've got a generous supply of them "folded away" myself right now. Next time I move, people are going to think I came from Japan. Quote
Dimis Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Hi, Does anyone know whether the Super Parts for the VF-17 scratch the plastic at all? Have you seen any such comments? Thnx D Quote

Dimis Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Good question. I actually haven't tried to remove my super parts since I put them on. I haven't bought a pack yet, so i'm not sure whether to get one if they are going to do any damage. Quote
Mommar Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 (edited) Or, rather, I have tried to take them off but the back pack versions are on REALLY tight and I haven't been able to successfully remove them. The leg parts don't damage anything at all however. Edited March 19, 2013 by Mommar Quote

I just bought a VF-17D Bundle! Quote
Valkyrie Magnus Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I believe this is the last VF-17D with super parts to come from HLJ. Just got it Quote
plutoniumhunter Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I believe this is the last VF-17D with super parts to come from HLJ. Just got it Congrats! It's slowly becoming extinct... Quote
Valkyrie Magnus Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Thanks! I really love the super parts on this. Makes me want them for the VF-17 S too but I believe they are sold out everywhere. Quote
plutoniumhunter Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Thanks! I really love the super parts on this. Makes me want them for the VF-17 S too but I believe they are sold out everywhere. HKC and Angolz have them back in stock today! Hurry! Quote
SaitouSad Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 oh man.. trying not to panic... *mouse hovering over the VF-11B with super pack*... Quote
Mommar Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I do think it's amusing that so many people bitched and moaned about how expensive every little Yamato item was and now that the source has been cut off they're panicking and buying up everything. That's the epitome of looking a gift horse in the mouth. Quote
mechaninac Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Well, speaking for myself, since I placed an order with HKC for a VF-19S and a VF-17S earlier this week for ~50% off each (still waiting for the shipping notification email from them, BTW), I essentially got two Valks for the price of one; therefore, my complaining that Yamato 1/60s are, with the exception of the VF-1, grossly overpriced in general, still stands... it's one of the primary reasons I waited this long . All the doom and gloom concerning Yamato's demise and the drying up of supply everywhere were just the last little push I needed to pull the trigger on these, but if they were going for full price or anything less than 40% off I would not have bought them because they would've been too expensive to me, to my perception of their true value. Just my 2 cents... Quote
