mech_dude Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I've long been a fan of wargaming as well as Macross so I started combining the two. I've approached Palladium about working with them to get a liscensed line of miniatures made. These are some of the prototypes. They were made in CAD, then printed and cast in resin. The models are between 50-70mm tall. I've set up a page on facebook so that fans can show their support which will be crucial to getting the project considered by HG. www.facebook.com/robotechminiatures/ Quote
GMANIFESS Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 NICE!!! I'd love a set of Destroids for my Prometheus shelf. Any word on pricing? Quote
mech_dude Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 I'm aiming to have them retail for around $15, it'll depend on material costs, labor, etc. But trying to keep the in line with the pricing of other miniature lines. Quote
Jasonc Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 The fact that HG has to be involved, is a downer. I don't know anyone who stil plays the Robotech RPGs, but I'm sure there are those that'd still buy them for dioramas, hobby kits, and just to collect. The $15 mark, is that a goal for a complete set, or for one item? Quote
MechTech Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Welcome Mech Dude! Those look great! I've been wanting to do that myself since I build a lot in 1/350th. I just can't go buy Macross items in that scale. - MT Quote
mech_dude Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 The $15 cost would be per model which is about standrad for most pewter miniature figures. (Battletech models are the closest comparsion) The only way to get the model cost down would be to make them with plastic injection which has a huge start up cost. Quote
shdwfx2000 Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Amazing. Beats just about everything that Wizkids or whoever has the license to battletech this week has in terms of detail. Let us know if you decide to make them available on MW in the future. Quote
mech_dude Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 I think this is probably the first complete miniature I've painted in two years. I did a couple 1/200 scale model kits since then, but not actual minis. I didn't go for any shading or washes. I'd initally tried a wash but it made the white look really dirty and I figured in solid colors it'd look a bit more like the animated series. Quote
Benson13 Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 That pod is awesome. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your work. Quote
winterdyne Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Ah, hello. :-) I posted this elsewhere, but will add to this thread too - as it's one of Mech_Dude's models. :-) To reiterate - a Macross (Studio Nue) license would be preferred as it would gives access to all the Macross Zero designs (some of which would still be serviceable during SW1). grapetang Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Great job with all the details at that scale. The wear, painting, weathering, & bases are really nice. Good luck w/ the project! Quote
mech_dude Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 (edited) It'll be a while until it's complete but I have the officer's pod underway. I also found another 3d artist who's looking to help kick in on the zentraedi foot soldiers. So hopefully I'll have another round of minis to show off in the next month or so. Also if anyone is interested here's the stuff i was working on for a table top style fan-game.
