I guess they are just getting rare in japan? Terrible toys imo

Ebay sold prices for a new takara MP-01 is like 370 ish.

The Hasbro version is half that.

you must be crazy... are you really a tf fan? yeah it's getting hard to find and becoming a collector piece.

I, for one, absolutely love UltraMagnus. It might be too simple for some, but I just have a blast every time I play with the massive beast.

Nice collection Gakken. I know you are all enjoying your Space brickuu as much as I'm enjoying Ultrabrickuu...

I love MP-1... Tons of really cool gimmicks. MP-10 is a better toy but MP-1 is a great collector's item.

He's still the centerpiece in my TF collection as a standalone.

Nah, I'm not a fan. I think I got the hasbro version for 100 and never opened it. I just see flaws in bot mode and the worst cab mode ever. Even the G1 cab mode is better.

But everybody loves something different I guess! If I was a big prime collector or into bigger toys for the sake of diecast and bigness, I'd also see the attraction, but that's not how I roll. I figure if I was going to go that route I'd just start collecting Sealed G1's or something. Or spring for one of those big diecast primes. But my brain is weird :D

Idk, I saw a Mp-08 takara go up on Man for 30,000 yen! Seems high and strange to me that they are spiking in value so much, when I've had mine on ebay for 180 for awhile. Even though it's opened that's like a 100 dollars difference and Man is usually how I gauge prices.

Vlenhoff - glad you're enjoying it :D

I... kinda have to side with Gakken on this one. MP-01 was absolutely incredible... when he was the only MP. He was big, he had need details like the pistons on his legs, and he resembled the cartoon Prime we grew up with way more than the original G1 toy.

When MP-10 was announced as Optimus Prime again, I was skeptical. MP-01 was so good, we didn't need another Prime, especially when there are so many other characters that needed done. But when I finally got my hands on it, I found MP-10 was as far beyond MP-01 as MP-01 was beyond the original G1 toy. Way better truck mode (even if the back half is still obviously robot legs), and while bot mode loses stuff like the pistons he gains better proportions, better posability, and a better head sculpt. Combined, they make for a much more dynamic figure.

I don't even feel like I'd want to pay even $180 for MP-08 at this point. I don't really fallow 3rd party anymore, has anyone been working on a better MP Grimlock lately?

Agreed the MP-01 was the absolute best, and there was nothing like it back then. I had to get the takara version with the long stacks, to compensate. I was skeptical as well about the MP-10 being substantially better than the MP-01, so i initially didn't get the MP-10. Some time later a friend gifted me the Nemesis MP-10 and I totally fell in love with the new mold. I also have the hasbro MP-10 now, and i love it.

It is like T1 and T2. T2 has better special effects, but T1 totally blew our minds away.

The 3rd party Dinobot companies play hide and seek at the moment. They all released or announced (i.e. showed at least line art) Slag, Swoop and Snarl but seem to wait for the other company to make the first move so they can steal design clues from each other. ^_^

Toyworld released images of their Dinobot combiner Grimlock stand-in called Corelock (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/3rd-party-unlicensed-41/toyworld-d-03-corelock-images-182371/) and Planet X released line art for their Vulcan (FoC Grimlock: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-3rd-party-discussion/1017425-planet-x-px-06-vulcan-foc-grimlock.html)

But does are not Masterpiece styled transforming robots.

I think it will take some time till we see another robot from either Fanstoys or GigaPower. Fanstoys has three other robots in the pipeline (not-Reflector, not-Preceptor and not-Bombshell) and putting their last finishing touches on Sever (their Snarl). GigaPower still hasn't released Guttur (a Stegosaurus) and only shown Slag and Swoop as line-art (no CAD models just an artists representation of the concept).

I think we will see a Fanstoys concept of Sludge late in 2015. The current rumors on TFW say that they are trying to find a way to store the Brontosaurus hind legs, tail and probably also the head into the lower legs of the robot mode so that might take a while.

I'm not following GigaPower that closely but I think they have enough to do with their first three releases. I also think that they gonna release Grimlock last so you may check out the 3rd party thread late 2016 again for more news. :D

OT: I don't get why the official Masterpiece toys don't have double jointed elbows and knees throughout. One major victory of MP-01 was the double jointed knee.

I also have a question for the members who have Star Saber in hand: does he feel hallow when handling him? The thighs especially seem to be hallow. I know this is a strange clue to come up with after only watching some video reviews but I just got the impression.

This is one reason I don't like overly huge toys. They all start to feel hallow. I think this is a necessity when you start a certain size because the joints still need to support the piece and as a manufacturer you have to keep the costs in mind but to me they start to feel like cheap toys to me.

The main offenders in this category are Generations Metroplex, Maketoys Utopia and Sentines Giant Action Scorponok. Granted I don't have any of the toys but from the reviews I read/watched I get the impression that I wouldn't like them due to the hollowness. I think the companies that produce the MP styled Dinobots get the quality feeling I want out of a collectible toy quite well.

GIgaPower has shown CG models of Grassor(Slag) already.

Guttur should be releasing soon as they had pictures of the the factory assembled toys back on March 20.

But that's all 3rd Party news. On topic: hows the hunt for wave 2 combiner wars figures going for everyone? Supposed they've been released up in here in Canada but haven't seen hide nor hair of them.

One more gripe against the newer Masterpieces: why don't they have a poseable index finger? I need Ultra Magnus to point stoically at stuff!

[edit:] For CW I have found one Fireflight and one Dragstrip in a toy shop yesterday. I haven't looked at the price but I assume it was around $25.

That's the best Hot Rod pose I've seen :D

No one is arguing against mp10.

The argument is that you don't need 01, if you have 10 - unless you just love big hunks of diecast, or you're a prime specialist collector, or maybe a completionist. Personally I'm an aesthetic collector - so accuracy over all.

But some people still love 1/48's over 1/60's. Whatever floats your collecting boat.

I don't even feel like I'd want to pay even $180 for MP-08 at this point. I don't really fallow 3rd party anymore, has anyone been working on a better MP Grimlock lately?

I'm sure a lot of fans would agree, though I think a lot of people going back who only collect official takara's would want it at some point. Even if they release a new mold... Apparently these older molds jump in price. Mainly because they didn't make a ton of them back then.

Anyway, if I don't get what I want out of it I'll just hold on to it.

Also, looks like a Victory Leo MP will come. Starstaberuuuuuuu is blowing out the japanese sale charts:

Count me among the lovers of MP-01. It was pretty much the Transformers toy event of a lifetime when he was first released, so the feeling of that original experience is impossible for me to forget or discount. Aside from that initial excitement I actually genuinely love the way he looks (even alt mode doesn't bother me since it's solid and rolls) and the tactile experience of just handling it and transforming it. I still get a good amount of satisfaction from it all of these years later, and even though I LOVE MP-10, I still find MP01 more enjoyable to handle overall. It just feels more robust to me and more like a 'play with me!' toy.

Very happy to have both in my collection. I think just the fact they both exist is a good testament to how spoiled us TF fans are. :D

the best part of the exhaust review? "If these guys were in prison together Exhaust would have a lot to worry about"

Posted (edited)

I got my Exhaust out... He has an amazing, amazing piece. Really love the deep red and blue contrasts. Probably the best re-deco of the MP line so far.

Everything was super tight, except for the backplate/windshield, it was a little loose.

The boxes I got from HLJ were immaculate.

Love the head sculpt!

about mp-01. i will never ever ever forget it. its been basically a decade since it came out and it truly stands out at as a landmark piece. i still have my mp-04 (though the trailer is kinda messed up) and while its not displayed right now its still awesome. mp-01 speaks to a time when the true "collector's market" for 80s robots was still relatively small and untested. while i admit it was the binaltechs that whet my appetite, i can pretty much credit mp-01 and of course the 1/48 vF-1s with rekindling my love of transforming robots. i'm sure it did the same for lots on here. FWIW, i have an mp-01L MISB and despite what i could probably get for him, i'm keeping him.

Alrighty I just put together my Space Brikku and the verdict is....it's a great toy. Feels like a toy, looks like a toy, but IMO doesn't feel like an MP. If it was cheaper I'd let my nephews play with it. Got a couple of stress marks on the folding backpage hinge.

Minor quibbles: weapons storage on the back sucks. Those pegs are going to loosen after abit of play. Also needed to tighten the elbows screws.

Biggest beef I have with the toy is: where the hell do you store the small sword hilt in Star Sabre...er....Space Brikku mode when he's not wielding it?
