Actually, the Hot Wheels classification system claims those boxed ships are 1:50 scale. 😂 Their "Track Fleet" Optimus Prime isn't a particularly accurate Kenworth K100C cabover, but it's a lot closer to 1:64 than most Hot Wheels semi-trucks... ...but still way off, of course. 🤕 Quote
sh9000 Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 The Mattel Creations Optimus Prime is a nice piece to have in the collection but IMO for $80, it should have included a trailer and painted in normal G1 toy colors instead of spectraflame red and blue. The Track Fleet version seems to be the same size as the Mattel Creations version so it is definitely not 1/64 scale. Quote
mikeszekely Posted December 22, 2024 Author Posted December 22, 2024 Not the clearest look, but Long Haul is definitely looking a lot better than his Combiner Wars counterpart. Quote
Scyla Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Devastator is odd looking. The gap (?!?!) in his chest is even more off-putting now in color compared to the gray prototype. And why are the leg robots off center on the thighs? Is it a reference to the off center feet on the G1 combiners? Quote

Just to keep Scrapper and Mixmaster from banging together when Devy's standing stock straight. Yeah, I think it's a tad odd myself (and opinions seem sharply divided on him in general), but I think he mostly looks better than Combiner Wars, I like that he scales better when other Combiners (need a new Predaking now, too, Hasbro), and I expect he'll be more stable and use better than Combiner Wars. Plus Long Haul's not a massive chonker. That's really all I expected from Hasbro. Quote

It seems like a gap on the toy itself to me: Quote

I didn't get CW Devy due to the lack of articulation and some wonky proportions among the various Constructicons, as well as the odd decision to change Mixmaster's cement truck design. This team of Constructicons and their Devastator combination is looking much better to my eyes. I see Has/Tak are taking a note from the third-party playbook insofar as combining the extra bits into a trailer, albeit a typically odd looking one. But hey, 'A' for effort. I'm a little disappointed that Long Haul's dumper bed isn't hollow and that it can't properly dump. Even among third party toys, Long Haul always gets shorted his real-world vehicle mode's ability to dump, with XTransbots' recent version being the only exception- kudos to XTransbots. While it appears that some of the Constructicons' proportions are still going to be a bit wonky like the CW toys before them (looking at Legacy Bonecrusher's ridiculously short forearms) and ball joints are in evidence for major points of articulation on deluxe figs, overall I think these are shaping up to be better figs that the CW toys and Devastator looks great. I agree with @mikeszekely that the "gap" in Hook's backside (Devastator's chest) is the top of Hook's head. As to the legs' connecting a bit off-center, again I defer to Mike's answer as it's likely to prevent the legs from colliding if they're placed perfectly straight. The CW toy did the same; it only looks like it's more filled in because of the big tires on Long Haul's thighs which are canonically not present on this version given the intention to make it look like the Movie animation. I do wish the forearms were about an inch longer, though, and it's odd that they kept them short considering they're add-on pieces unaffected by any design considerations for Scavenger or Bonecrusher. They could have been any length. Ah well, third party will likely address it along with other nitpicks. Since this figure isn't going to have a frame system to rely on for stability and all mechanisms to that end are going to have to be designed into the Constructicons themselves, with the exception of the waist and thigh section, of course, stability is a greater concern than proportions. I'm hoping lessons were learned from the Combiner Wars era and this thing benefits by being solid. Quote
mikeszekely Posted December 26, 2024 Author Posted December 26, 2024 Speaking as someone who was aspiring to draw comic books at one point, yes, his head's a little small... so was CW's, and it's a consequence of trying to fit it on Hook. But no, his arms aren't too short, they're about right where they should be. I have to say, I'm pretty stoked for 2025. No, they're not perfect, but I'm pretty jazzed for Studio Series Devastator and AotP Superion, and Star Convoy having all the gimmicks of the G1 toy (including the little truck and Micromaster Hot Rod) but actually having articulation is a dream come true. Hikuro Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 I'm a lil bummed out by a Trypticon re-release considering I bought him I think last year at a slightly inflated price at a game store that someone traded him for probably a copy of COD. I mean I got him after years of putting him aside so really I got no interest in a color accurate release. As for Devastator being showed off, I do have one lil thing I wish they would include with these and that's an alternate faceplate seeing how he's been depicted famously with both a pair of eyes and a solid visor. As not sorry as I am to be getting Star Convoy, I'd open my wallet for a new more G1 Metroplex with proper ankles in a heartbeat. Quote
JB0 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Yeah. The existing Game Metroplex is sort of gangly and lanky. In my mind, Metroplex should be the opposite of that. Maybe a faithful G1 Metroplex is TOO boxy, but... meh. I like what I like. Quote
