And if your eyes caught it, you'd see our olde frenemies, the Klingons.

Needs more Fu Manchu.

Caught this earlier today in IMAX 3D. Possibly the best picture I've seen in recent years, entirely enjoyed it. It's twice as Trek as the last Trek movie, had goosebumps throughout and I say this as one who isn't a TOS fan. Would like to see more, was pretty inspired at the end of the movie.

It may have been the IMAX though ^_^.

The new girl is insanely hot. WTB a hot toys fig.

Wow you saw it already? Anyway the key words in your post are "one who isn't a TOS fan." That's precisely the audience that Abram's Trek is designed to capture, for better or for worse. Meanwhile, I must find my TNG uniform-shirt for the U.S. premiere...

Japan. August 23rd.

Not that I wanted to see it anyway.

I can't wait to see this.

I'll definitely be catching it in iMax.

Star Trek 2009 was... ridulous is the most polite term I can use. If you want to talk about it's place in canon then the Kelvin incident fits in before TOS and after Capt. Archer leaving (GASP) Enterprise and the only TV series that is part of the move timeline. I might go see Into Darkness out of curiousity but my expectations are low to say the least.

I'm looking forward to Jar Jar Abrhams moving on to Star Wars so he can work his magic on somebody else's favorite SF franchise.

Why was it ridiculous to you?

Villain who throws a temper tantrum, and blows up an alternate universe's planet because he couldn't think straight.. Plot device that can create a black hole that's safe from within visual distance.. the dilithium brewery.. "trans-warp".. bleh.

I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy it, but the plot really didn't make a lick of sense. You're talking about a universe where time travel is possible, and you don't use it to save a planet that blows up for some ridiculous reason? That, and Nero was abou 5 fries short of a happy meal the entire time.

Maybe they couldn't find the correct point in time to save Romulus? I dunno, I guess you're right. But in Nero's defense, most bad guys are missing something "up there," or they wouldn't be bad guys to begin with...

Good to hear, though I'm still curious if the spoilers everyone read were actually true. If they actually were, the next question is, did they detract from the movie, or work decently well? :)

A really good friend of mine, who's as big of a Trek fan as me, got to watch a sneak preview of the film last week.

He said that as a casual film-goer, he really enjoyed the film. However, he could definitely see how the film would turn off or upset long-time Trek fans.

I gave him a link to the spoilers, and he pretty much confirmed that they were accurate.

Yeah . . . after getting confirmation that the spoilers are accurate, I ain't paying to see

magic healing blood inserted into a dead Tribble and then used to ressurect Captain Kirk after they pull a blatant rip-off/twist switch of Wrath of Khan.

The plot contrivances would just piss me off too much.

i haven't read any spoilers prior to watching but i still saw that coming a mile a away.

yet, i still enjoyed the movie.

i'm not a Trek fan though, so i may be more forgiving of plot devices, save those from way out left field.

this one though was foreshadowed, the logic explained, and a demonstration given very early. so i gave it a fair shake.

Spectacular body... I don't care for her face.

She's a prawn (shrimp for our US friends): great body, throw away her head..

Meh. Most important part is the face. I can worship a girl with a less-than-perfect body as long as she has a face you can wake up to.

As for Star Trek, must....resist....reading...spoilers...

I saw it last week and I liked it. Plenty of nods to the pre reboot films and TOS. Coherent plot, and well placed, visually better than the last one.

I can see though that plenty of people will hate it.

They already do, without even having to see it...

I do love the fact that here we have a common interest but still so diverse in our likes and opinions.

Well I might check it out at midnight, but the whole wait-in-front-of-a-theater-for-hours on premiere night novelty has worn off on me...

I think the last time I did that was for the original run of Star Wars:A New Hope. If I remember correctly, it took us 3 nights before we actually got into the theater.

You mean because it was too crowded?

Yep. Town I grew up in had only 2 movie theaters. And this is the old time definition of movie theater, meaning only the one screen (no multiplex). And, of course the smaller theater was the one that had it booked.

Geeze, and I was only 7 or 8 at the time. How can I remember this???

because A New Hope was and still is just that freaking awesome!

You know, Into Darkness is not as good as the previous Star Trek film, but it's one hell of a ride. Without giving away a lot of spoilers, I have to say that pays a lot of homages to a certain TOS episode and a certain TOS movie. And as expected with a Jim Abrams production, it's got balls-out action and a loud orchestral score to go with it. Excellent performance by Benedict Cumberbatch, as he delivered beyond the monologues he gave on the trailers. It's also great to see the great Frank Murphy back in the big screen.

Also, Alice Eve is hot.

Ditto for me as well. I also enjoyed how they had Peter Weller (aka Robocop) in this movie. All in all, good flick and I would definanlty watch it again. :D

Because the best things we can remember come from the heydays of our youth.

In any case, slightly jealous with this girl I've been seeing. She and a friend went to L.A. yesterday to attend what I'm guessing was some sort of porn/modeling job expo recruiting new talent, and on the way they stumbled upon the red carpet premiere of the Star Trek movie, complete with William Shatner and the current cast of Enterprise crew. As she puts it: "ZOMG I WAS LIKE-10 FEET FROM CHRIS F**KING PINE AND HE'S SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOT!!!!!!!!11111"

Girls have all the luck man...
