Jefuemon Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I read here a while ago that whoever owns the masters for the 1/72 scale launch arm were going to do another run for Starship Modeler. Any idea when that's going to happen? Or did it already happen, and I missed it? Just picked up the Hasegawa SVF-41 Black Aces kit, and I'd love to emulate Tenjin's box artwork. Quote
ahiachris Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I think you can contact Starship directly, I believe they're still taking pre-orders. Mine was ordered directly from them. Quote
Jefuemon Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 Done that already. I've just noticed that it's been under "pre-order" for quite a few months now. Quote
Jefuemon Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 One month later, still "pre-order". Quote
tundrayeti Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 They are gearing up for Wonderfest. That is one of their biggest shows of the year. You might ask one of our members that is going to see if they can grab you one they may have them for sale at the show Quote
Valkyrie Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 I'm afraid this is all my fault. I'm casting them for SSM, but I've been too busy with other stuff to make new molds and get it back in production. I'll do my best to get some of them cast in time for Wonderfest. Quote
Jefuemon Posted March 24, 2012 Author Posted March 24, 2012 Much appreciated!! I'll keep my eyes open. Quote
Gabe Q Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 I think you can contact Starship directly, I believe they're still taking pre-orders. Mine was ordered directly from them. How exactly does the pre-order process work on SSM? Quote
Model-Junkie Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) I haven't pre-ordered an item from SSM in 6 months+ but if they still do it this way, you are just added to the pre-order list & you will be sent an invoice once the kit becomes available again. They try to fulfill pre-orders before offering the kits for sale in their store so you are pretty much guaranteed a kit, you just got to complete the order within a certain time frame. Edit for spelling Edited March 27, 2012 by Space_Monkey Quote
Valkyrie Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Re-molding has begun! For this run, I've made an additional part, too. Gundamhead's original kit had a guitar string running down the length of one of the arm segments, acting as a conduit (I guess). But that really didn't work for casting, so I eliminated it, and had Starship Modeler replace it with a spring. But that didn't work as well as I'd like either, so I decided to do something about it this time. So I took one of those springs, and found a piece of piano wire that fit inside it. Then I bent the wire to the needed shape, and ran he spring over it. A couple dabs of superglue on the ends, and it's ready for molding. And assuming it comes out well, it should make the kit that little bit better Quote
Jefuemon Posted May 3, 2012 Author Posted May 3, 2012 Awesome! I'll be watching and waiting for it. Quote
TER-OR Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Pre-ordering at SSM is essentially a reservation. When they're available you'll be sent a message asking whether you still want them, and if so to complete the purchase process. You don't pay up-front at the pre-order time. It's pretty important to pre-order, though, so Zero has an idea how many to order. PS, I saw the bits this weekend and they keep looking better and better! Quote
Jefuemon Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 Now that Wonderfest is over, any idea on availability? Quote
Model-Junkie Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Looks like it is from the same re-caster that is also selling the atmospheric booster and launch vehicle Quote
Jefuemon Posted June 8, 2012 Author Posted June 8, 2012 Yep, the recast is out I'm holding out for an original, though, since I'm confident Valkyrie will be finishing them up soon. ガンバレ!!!!! Quote
EXO Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 removed link... no need to make it easier for people to find that place thru here. Quote
Valkyrie Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Well, crap. But at least it isn't any cheaper than the one on SSM is. Sorry to keep you all waiting. It'd be done by now, if it wasn't for the base mold that came out weird. I'll be pouring a new one in the next couple days. Quote

Jefuemon Posted August 20, 2012 Author Posted August 20, 2012 Any status reports available? Don't worry, I will not be wasting my time or money on the recast. Quote

Jefuemon Posted December 5, 2012 Author Posted December 5, 2012 Any new news? Still having trouble with the base? Quote
MechTech Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Valkyrie has been really busy. In fact, I asked if he could do the next round of moldings again for my 1/350 series and he had to decline because he is so busy. I'll try contacting him for an update. - MT Quote

Jefuemon Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 Happy 1 year anniversary of waiting! I can still wait, since I'm not really any closer to doing the Black Aces kit yet. Just want to let it be know that I'm still interested in buying one of these. Quote
mslz22 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Any more news on this? I'm hoping to get a couple at some point.... Quote
cobywan Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 sounds like the subject is ripe for the picking. You'll have to start making smaller products Mike. Quote
mslz22 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I don't want to step on any toes, but i would be open to the possibility of either purchasing the pattern for a reasonable price, or just offering casting service. Does SSModeler own the pattern at this point still? I have plenty going on, so again don't want to step on any toes, just would like to get my hands on one without building a new pattern if possible.... mike sounds like the subject is ripe for the picking. MechTech Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I PM'ed Valkyrie again; hopefully he is available to check his mail. - MT Quote

Work has been keeping me way too busy for most side work, so I'm pretty out of the casting biz...No idea if SSM has gotten a new caster to take on the project. Couldn't hurt to ask John if you could do it! Quote
mslz22 Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Thanks, sent off a note to John, offered to either buy the pattern or do the casting on it.... mike Quote
mslz22 Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Looks like it has been sent off to another caster at this point.... mike Quote
