You forget I've been watching anime for thirty years. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if this was an anime, with no changes except for the medium, it wouldn't even warrant it's own thread on these forums. 3/5 means I enjoyed it for what it was: robot porn. Twoducks
I think that we can all agree that Pacific Rim is an honest film: it promised giant robots punching monsters in the face and it delivered epic giant robots punching monsters in the face as the big main dish. It’s not like the Transformers films were you get some robot action as a side dish because there has to be some in there while there are no humans running around with their oh so interesting lives. When you apply Sci-fi and anime tropes with love and respect even a movie with not a complex script can be heaps of fun.

Twoducks
Second? Da'frakk Japan?! I thought you were not into the zombie thing, at least that was what I read as one of the reasons the Highschool of the Dead manga got canned. Here in Spain, were Mazinger Z has been part of mainstream pop culture since the 70's, it only made third place after Pitt's week old zombie roadtrip and Bruce Willis and his phoned in spy flick... word of mouth better bring more people in this weekend. Hope Italy and France, who have a bigger super robot tradition, bring more to the European ticked sales.

They must be Brad Pitt fans and nothing like getting beat by another stupid and not funny Adam Sandler film You guys do know that its the middle of summer holidays here, right? And that summer holidays are more or less a single week that everyone gets at the same time, and pretty much everyone travels somewhere, right? That said: Brad Pitt is a big draw, and summer is the time everyone goes to see scary movies. Let's not forget that Japan was the origin of the Biohazard (Resident Evil) zombie series, and that anime is all moe...

PetarB
Statue? Meh. I hope Kotobukiya makes 1/144 or even 1/100 scale models of these. 1/72 is probably going to be a little big maybe. WM Cheng might drop by to give us a better appreciation of this, I'm sure he would of handled in-scale maquettes during concept design. frothymug
Today's the first day of the new semester at my university and I've had the main theme stuck in my head since I got up. Definitely a good soundtrack to have when you're "prepping for the fight", like at the beginning of the movie.
RedWolf
This is the scene when Vladivostok is mentioned. A Jaeger graveyard. Behind that are Jaeger models. On either side are a Romeo Blue type and a Gipsy Danger type. Now the middle model is a previously denied Jaeger by Del Toro that showed up in a Mirida Studio commercial, his company. The Kaiju that Romeo Blue beat up in the night vision prologue is a the early Bladehead concept which also showed up as a Kaiju toy in a shelf. Ivan
People say the damnedest things... Pacific Rim Called "American Propaganda" in China China Military Officer: "Pacific Rim Degrades Chinese as Monster-Eaters" No need to get emotional on stuff like this. It's pretty common these days for senior Chinese government officials to make big statements using strange and sometimes laughable logic. I am sure most of the mainstream audience will disagree, as box office speaks louder than words. Anyways, this kind of statement doesn't even deserve a reaction. mechaninac
... Anyways, this kind of statement doesn't even deserve a reaction. It does deserve a reaction, of sorts: pointing one's finger at the issuer of such statements while belly laughing uncontrollably at its sheer absurdity seems to fit pretty well. wm cheng
A little bit of tooting my own horn... Can anyone read German (I can't - I had to Google translate it)? The print version outlines my involvement in Pacific Rim, but the online article showcases my design work for Total Recall. http://www.digitalproduction.com/de/film-video-vfx/details/artikel/die-zukunft-bauen/
