Knight26 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I will reserve judegement on the mech design until we actually see it, I am hoping for a less bayformer design and something more solid and well built. Quote
Kanedas Bike Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 *snip* WHERE IS THE GODDAMN TRAILER GUILLERMO!?!!??? Hey! Those two look nothing like Commander Shepard and Ashley. I hate the way Hollywood casts for video game movies. Grrr Rage. Just kidding, but the Mass Effect look is so strong it's not even funny. ... On topic, I'm looking for the movie and like everyone else hope the mech/giant roboto designs are nice. -b. Quote
Lobizon Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Guillermo Del Toro Unveils Pacific Rim Footage, Reveals His Plans For Robot And Monster Mayhem Quote
mecha2241 Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 After reading that Lobizon, this movie just became a must see for me. Quote
BeyondTheGrave Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 An actual trailer would be nice. but still meh about this. Quote
Mr March Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Some new information and reactions about Pacific Rim featured on Slashfilm. http://www.slashfilm.com/pacific-rim-footage-shown-comiccon-guillermo-del-toro-spills-jaeger-kaiju-details-comiccon-2012/ Quote
Twoducks Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Some new information and reactions about Pacific Rim featured on Slashfilm. http://www.slashfilm...-comiccon-2012/ The robot from the poster looks generic but still nice.... and reading this I see we will get at least half a dozen different robots (freaking AWESOME!!) Del Toro’s words can sure make you want to see the movie. Quote
PetarB Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 New Poster Still have no idea what these mecha look like, even from that silhouette... Quote
renegadeleader1 Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Cautiously optimistic. -b. Me too. As for not having any idea what it looks like I would laugh my a** off if it turns out the whole reason they aren't showing it is because its Mazinger/Mazinkaiser. Although to be honest what I've read of the plot reminds me a ton of Godannar. Older veteran pilot paired with younger newbie love interest, enemies that mutate taking on various forms, and an entire world defense force made of multinational robots. The biggest question I have is what is up with the birds/angels/flying things that is in the background of all the movie posters so far? Quote
Mr March Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 It could be a compositional choice. Birds are often used to help provide a sense scale whenever depicting something large. Recall the Argonath's in Lord of the Rings, the Colusseum in Gladiator, etc. Birds, birds and more birds Quote
EXO Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Helicopters in the second poster. Seagulls in the the first one. Quote
renegadeleader1 Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Helicopters in the second poster. Seagulls in the the first one. Could be right. I can't tell on my cellphones resolution. Quote
Greyryder Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 As for not having any idea what it looks like I would laugh my a** off if it turns out the whole reason they aren't showing it is because its Mazinger/Mazinkaiser. I hope they do that scene where Kaiser gets tossed in the volcano, and the skrander saves it. Quote
Mr March Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Could be right. I can't tell on my cellphones resolution. Get a Galaxy SIII. It has a 1,280 x 720 resolution, perfect for browsing stuff like this. Plus it's a great phone Quote
taksraven Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I just wanna see a trailer for now. Would indicate if it was the sort of thing I wanted to see....... Quote
the white drew carey Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I'm looking forward to it. del Toro has yet to disappoint me. I just can't stop saying the word 'Job' in my head after reading the title. Quote
PetarB Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 (edited) Looks like the bastard child of a Gundam and a Evangelion mecha. It looks like there's a giant speaker in the chest - Firebomber would be proud! It says its a 'nuclear vortex turbine' - possibly a chest cannon like the Guyver, if anyone remembers that? The design in general is a bit to anthropomorphic for my taste, but I can't wait to see it in action! Edited November 28, 2012 by PetarB Quote
DarrinG Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 That sucks. Geez man, you could get a better design than that from a random fan at a comic con. Sheesh... Quote
Mr March Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Just saw the viral stuff posted on Slashfilm. Definitely working for me. I'm keeping my expectations in check (even though I don't want to) but I like what I see so far. http://www.slashfilm.com/pacific-rim-viral-marketing-begins-to-warn-of-giant-monster-attack/ WIsh we could have seen a bit more of the creatures. But the way the kaiju appeared in the videos really gave a "Shadow of the Colossus" vibe Quote
Kurisama Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 That sucks. Geez man, you could get a better design than that from a random fan at a comic con. Sheesh... The only thing that could use some tweaking are the arm's length - but other than that, the design is fine. Has nods to old school mecha. We haven't seen it in action yet. That's a pretty lazy insult about the design and inaccurate response about the 'random comic con'. It is my experience that the general populace at large and by association - random people at a convention can't draw, let alone design to save their lives - so relax. Quote
wm cheng Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Hey, you can't say its a Bay-bot! (and that's a good thing - even if its old school ;-) Quote
azrael Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Looks like the bastard child of a Gundam and a Evangelion mecha. Looks like a bastard child of a Gundam and an Iron Man armor with a comically small head to me... Quote
Twoducks Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Lower half reminds me a lot of Iron-man. But the big chested super-hero style form does fits well with fighting evil monsters. That sucks. Geez man, you could get a better design than that from a random fan at a comic con. Sheesh... Sooo, you gonna back that up or was that just you showing us how big of a hating douche you are? There must be a Comic con near you, go, go, go, go get them to draw you a pretty picture!! Hearing the pronunciation of the evil creatures name makes me think about this guy: Quote
505thAirborne Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Hey, you can't say its a Bay-bot! (and that's a good thing - even if its old school ;-) That is so far a big plus for this movie. No sign of Bay-bots! Quote
wm cheng Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Hey, they used some of my bits and pieces SketchUp designs directly in that blueprint!! Too bad its an older outdated version, I don't get why Marketing doesn't co-ordinate with the rest of production?! Gettin' excited, it comes out next year on my birthday too. Quote
EXO Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 It's so weird... Weta wanted to make Evangelion. Peter Jackson hires Del Toro to Make the Hobbit. Del Toro quits The Hobbit and now he's making this. Quote
EXO Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 ooooh... i like! would love to see longer lower legs but waist and up is awesome! Quote
Greyryder Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Not a fan of the stubby thighs, long calves look. In fact, I'd say the legs are just about perfect, on that Russian jaeger. It certainly has a fancy hat. Gipsy Danger has some proportion issues going on between the torso and legs, but I certainly don't hate it. Given that it looks like it's meant to operate in coastal waters, (salt water cooling intake) the longer legs kind of make sense. Quote
