Renato Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 I'm wondering if it might be interesting to re-visit and share some of the old topics from the archived boards from last decade just to see what kind of content we were discussing at the time. Feel free to post any of your own "re-discoveries"! I was browsing and found this little gem: http://www.macrossworld.com/cgi-bin/mwfarchive/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=8;t=6985;view=old Yes, it's everyone's favourite toy, the PVC Banpresto VF-1! It's so funny to re-read this in hindsight. Look hard enough and you will find people's first reactions to the 1/48, others anticipating the 1/55 Max & Millia reissues, and more, so please post anything you think other members might enjoy, or maybe cringe at the thought of "My god, did I really think that?? How could I have been so naive?!" Quote
VF5SS Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 "I think he's a British dude living in Tokyo, but I could be wrong. " I'd never have guessed. Quote
treatment Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 (edited) http://www.macrosswo...opic=30857&st=0 still funny to read. edit: oh, you meant stuff from the legacy board. wish i could find the Toynami MPC stuff. those were funny, too. especially the dark brown triple laser head thingy. I guess this was the closest to it or something: the banpresto vs MPC thread: http://www.macrosswo...t=ST;f=8;t=9286 edit2: another gem to me -- the $38 1/55 Super VF-1S hlj sale thread: http://www.macrosswo...=ST;f=8;t=10337 those were really the days! Chronocidal Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 I don't recall if I was even around for the old board, or if I actually posted there... What I do find fun from time to time is re-reading the huge threads dealing with new releases, specifically watching all the panic button mashing. I think my favorites are the 1/60 YF-19, YF-21, and v.2 VF-1 threads. I remember one specific discussion involving far too many uses of the term "battying" that's always funny to re-read. Oh wait.. wow, I actually did join back then.. early 2003. Had a total of 7 posts before the new board. Quote

Chronocidal Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) Here we go.. it was a ridiculous mini-flame war over the YF-21's proportions, which... considering the thread just started about a v.2 YF-21, is oddly relevant again. I'll have to re-read the entire thing later to find the funny parts, I just remember the term battying being used repeatedly, and I don't even know what started it, or who used it first.. again, I'm gonna read it all when I get home. Here's the biggest use of the word I think, then it goes on to wish people would go back to just calling each other mentally deficient, and posting Zardoz pictures. http://www.macrosswo...ndpost&p=545382 The debates still get heated, so nothing has changed there, but ridiculous things tend to happen when the arguments flame out and people are left with nothing new to post about. I'll have to find more later, but here are the threads about the YF-19 and v.2 VF-1. http://www.macrosswo...showtopic=19382 http://www.macrosswo...showtopic=24556 Edited February 7, 2012 by Chronocidal Quote

I still don't fully know what the hell battying means, but it doesn't hold a candle to the 80 pages of people tossing around the term "A game" in the first 2 DX-25 threads. :edit: btw, I like that this was the guys last post: QUOTE(Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 @ Jan 19 2008, 12:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good anime, even popular in Macrossworld. .... I'm not going to argue this with you, I've just lost what little respect I had for you. I don't want to be part of a community with such exceptionnally poor taste so Ima just gonna lurk from now on. It's a shame really, some of you have such incredible modelling skills, but GUNBUSTER FANS!?!? lol it's just not worth it. BYE!! Edited February 7, 2012 by anime52k8 Quote
eriku Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Egads, my Legacy avatar is forever recorded as Amelie. I think I had her as an avatar for a few days as part of some in-joke or something. Kind of neat though considering my 3 month old daughter is named Amelia. I love reading through my posts from almost a decade ago and seeing how opinions can change. I found one where I'm bitching about how shitty the Transformers Armada Tidal Wave toy is, and yet today it's one of my favorite TFs. Quote

danth Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Pretty sure there was a macro that replaced the word "bitching" after the mods got tired of hearing it with "battying". Quote
eriku Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Pretty sure there was a macro that replaced the word "bitching" after the mods got tired of hearing it with "battying". Yeah, "battying" wasn't what people chose to write, it was what the forum automatically plugged in if you typed "bitching" (or batty instead of bitch). I'm pretty sure there were substitutions for other profanities as well. Quote
Kyp Durron Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I always wondered where that term came from, I never realized it was the forum censor, lol. -Kyp Quote

Chronocidal Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Dunno about you, but I'm enjoying reading the cooking discussion that started midway through the YF-19 topic. Lots of fun tips for how to enhance the taste and/or nutritional value of instant noodles, for all those heavy valk-buying months. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=19382&view=findpost&p=421176 With the way prices are going, it's becoming more and more relevant. Renato Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 I was looking for that parody "MPC version 2" thread but instead found this: "Yamato/Toynami Japan Team Up" http://www.macrossworld.com/cgi-bin/mwfarchive/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=8;t=7045;hl=mpc+version+2 And this: "The Sad State of Affairs: An Open Letter to MW Members" http://www.macrossworld.com/cgi-bin/mwfarchive/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=7;t=4614;hl=mpc+version+2 It's funny how Toynami really used to be the legitimate alternative in the minds of some collectors back then, and look at the situation now. Yamato has now made almost every valk in the Macross universe, all the while being in a league of their own -- even proving their mettle against heavy-hitters like Bandai. Quote
VF5SS Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I miss Skullone. He was a guy from Greece who used to chat with me about Macross. I hope he's doing well. Quote
Renato Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 I miss Skullone. He was a guy from Greece who used to chat with me about Macross. I hope he's doing well. Yeah, we wrote the definitive translation of Angel's Paints... wherever that is now. If i remember, he was banned for being too mouthy regarding HG and Row-boat-tech. Such a waste, because he was really enthusiastic about Macross and active in the fandom, but I guess he just went too far. Quote
reddsun1 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 (edited) Not sure if this one'd really go here but: "The Final Countdown" http://www.macrosswo...topic=4485&st=0 and the premise of Tomcats vs Zeros...ah, good stuff. That movie is a sentimental favorite from childhood; still one of the best movies ever for eye-candy footage of naval aircraft and shipboard operations. I still think that this movie [came out in 1980] almost certainly must have had some influence on a younger Shoji Kawamori et al--as they would have been in the production stages of Chojiku yosai Macross, which would debut 2 years later. From the immortal colors of the "stars of the show" VF-84's Jolly Rogers; to the setpiece scenes of deck activity and tensionbuilding up to launch; even similarities in small elements from John Scott's film score. Clutching at straws? yes. But still, you can see the tiniest bit of a connection. Edited February 13, 2012 by reddsun1 Quote
