Ahab Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 (edited) Vt102, what material did you select? Thanks Ahab- Edited November 18, 2012 by Ahab Quote
vt102 Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Vt102, what material did you select? Thanks Ahab- Hello... I just chose the regular white. My next order, I may get the white polished ones. I still need to find a good pin to use. Quote
vt102 Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 (edited) OK....I got one set installed. This the smaller ones that come as a pair. I noticed when you put them together....it does not close flat. So I shaved a little material off the center where it closes on the inside. I got it to almost close flush.... the fatter 5mm ones close alot better once the center material is shaved off. And it is very very minimal.....not going to affect the strength one bit. Here are both shoulders replaced. The white is not too bad with the flash....even when its off....it is not that bad. The TV J, and S should be a perfect color match...since I hear the plastic on those are a bright white. Note: I did notice the ball for the shoulder is a bit small. I tightened the 2 screws as tight as I could....but was still loose. I had to use a foam piece to fill up the gap. Once I did that....it is alot better. FYI.... the material I chose was the white strong & flexible. I wonder if I chose the polished....that it would be even looser? Edited November 26, 2012 by vt102 Quote
vt102 Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 (edited) Here is the 5mm ones. Once that material is shaved off.... it closes almost flush. And I found the right pin size....I cut the spring on a clothes pin....works good. Edited November 26, 2012 by vt102 Quote
vt102 Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 I got the 5mm hinges installed on my other one. They do not fit without filing down some material. Maybe if you mix match the 4 & 5... they might fit without mods. So to make them fit, I had to file down some material where the 2 meet up in fighter mode. As you can see with the pic....they only go in at a 45 degree angle. So I took off about less than 1/2 a mm....I might go back and take a little more off. It does not affect the lock (little bump you have to go over when transforming into gerwalk or battroid)when in battroid mode. Also when going back into fighter, you have to unlock the bar, to raise it higher for the hinge bulge to fit under. Once they are straight....you can lock down the bar. Then it is rock solid....maybe too solid. Not sure if anyone else is having the same problem as me. Please chime in. Also the balls on these are also a bit small. I had to stuff the joint for it to be snug. Quote
VF5SS Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 maybe I should just remove the 5mm hinge. it's not necessary anymore Quote
VF5SS Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 Shapeways is doing free shipping on Cyber Monday. Quote
vt102 Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 I know....I may get more of your hinges.... Quote
erock Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 This is so badass! I just ordered some black ones. I'll post pics later to satisfy curiosity. Quote
vt102 Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 This is so badass! I just ordered some black ones. I'll post pics later to satisfy curiosity. Please do. I want to see what the black looks like on the valks. Quote
VF5SS Posted December 16, 2012 Author Posted December 16, 2012 It's pretty black. Like my soul. Quote
aceoftherebellion Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Oh, that does look good. You guys think that'd fit better on some of the non-white valks, like the trainer types, CF and M&Ms? Quote
vt102 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 The black looks not bad. I may have to get a set. Quote
SuperSenpai Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) Just a thought I had -- for those who are having trouble removing the pins in the shoulder pieces, I wonder if one of these might be able to do the trick? http://www.amazon.co...nk+removal+tool It's cheap, and you can use it to do watch repairs as well. Edited January 6, 2013 by SuperSenpai Quote
VF5SS Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 I think it's easier to use something else for the pins. I use Atlas brand wood tacks. Quote
erikos0311 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Quick question, i recently ordered my replacement from shapeways but the website did not give me the option of sizes. Are members talking about the size of the pin? 5mm-4mm... Confused...... Quote
Sandman Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I think Veef removed the bigger size since it wasn't necessary anymore. Quote
VF5SS Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 Yeah there was no more need and it caused too much confusion. Quote
erikos0311 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Cool, that makes sense. Thanks guys, I got a vf-1a that came out jacked out of the box, brand new. O well, I expected it. Even got a lil' discount! Will post pics as soon as I receive my package from shapeways! Quote
dapro Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Here is the video for how to change the hinges. Quote
Loute Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I believe I had a mix of fat and thin hinges but I was able to succesfully reuse the original pins (page 5 of this topic). The black looks really nice, I wouldn't have thought so Quote
dapro Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I was hoping I don't have to go back to this thread, but unfortunately I received a vf-1j with crack hinge. Where do i order the white hinges and how hard is it to take the pin out from the existing hinges? I am not very handy hope I don't break anything. Quote
plastik Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 the pins aren't too hard to remove just take your time. Use some lubricant and a nail clipper and slowly work them out. you can get the hinges from here: http://www.shapeways.com/shops/veefshop Quote
dapro Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I am guessing this is it? http://www.shapeways.com/model/463232/kanzen-henkei-1-60-scale-fighter-variable-hinge.html?li=productBox-search Quote

Think I will order 2 sets since the shipping price is the same no matter how any sets you order. If anyone in the south bay area wants to order this and with reduce shipping cost, let me know. I am ordering this later in the week. Edited March 27, 2013 by dapro Quote
