THOR Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 (edited) We bought a hobby media blaster....looks like an airbrush....gonna try and see if it takes down the roughness on that shapeways nylon...ill let you know if it works....will that fuselage fit in your tumbler? (i think you got a tumbler right?) i'm gonna try fine glass beads, aluminum oxide, garnet sand, and baking soda...i'm guessing baking soda will be the mildest but that nylon is tough. tundrayeti Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 Too big for the tumbler, but I may try your blaster if it works. The small parts came out awesome so I'm casting those now. I'll post pics tonight. Be careful with the baking soda it expands in contained spaces. Tried it in my ritery tumbler and it had pressure buildup Quote
Berttt Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Hey that turned out great! Man you must be flat out with all these projects you've got on the go - that what I like to see, more macross resin goodies Cheers, Brett Quote
PetarB Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 (edited) Congrats on getting it printed finally. Please post casting pics ASAP! I'd love to see the cleaned up version. I think I'll be putting a couple of my pilots in this one... Edited April 29, 2012 by PetarB Quote
Benson13 Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Amazing work bro. I show your stuff off to every nerd I can find. Quote
tundrayeti Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 Thanks guys I really appreciate all the compliments. Okay time for an update and those pics I promised with a 1/72 scale pilot. This on is from one of my Hasegawa sets. He looks great in the cockpit door and the hatchway. Also you can see the panel lines turned out great and the sanding and priming is almost done. I have some of the smaller parts in rubber right now, i'll post those when I get them done, but for now, enjoy! Quote
505thAirborne Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Absolutely amazing Yeti!! Can't wait to see the final product. Quote
Skull One Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Fantastic!, i want one please!. Please let me know when you start to take orders!. Thanks!. Quote
Kylwell Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Have you checked into PCS Engineering for printing? They make Shapeways look like cardboard cutouts. Quote
tundrayeti Posted May 6, 2012 Author Posted May 6, 2012 I have, and I am actuall trying another printing service as well. Shapeways is pretty competetive, although I must Say that lately they have been ticking me off. They are rejecting things that I have printed before, some kind of change in their standards. Very upsetting. I have a very good printer that many of my fellow kit builders use and their quality is so good, no touch up or prep work is needed. They do mainly figures so the details have to be outstanding. Thanks Kylwell for the tip, I have talked to them before though. Anyway The decals arrived Friday! They look AWESOME!!!! There was a small issue with some of the letters and nose numbers, but Jbot included replacements. He Even called up to make sure I got them. So I cannot compain. More coming, hope to have castings by next weekend, so keep those pre-orders coming! Quote
THOR Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 For general knowledge...Yeti and I used the Badger sand blaster and an enclosed blasting cabinet. Sand (straigth from the beaches of Sarasota) seemed to leave pock-marks in our test piece. The aluminum oxide from badger is 220 grit and seems to work well with smoothing kits out. You can get the aluminum oxide in 220 grit much cheaper online than badger sells it. -THOR Quote
tundrayeti Posted May 9, 2012 Author Posted May 9, 2012 That 220 grit was awesome! Thanks to THOR for his help in getting this out!.convinced me to get one of these. Quote
Skull One Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 I want one!. You take my Pre-Order?. I hope your response in my PM. Best Regards! Quote
tundrayeti Posted May 13, 2012 Author Posted May 13, 2012 Got you down Skull One. If I don't respond right away it's because ive been trying to get this finished for Wonderfest. Oh and all the smalle parts are in Rubber at the moment, I'll have some casts in a day or 2. Finished the big parts at Thor's today. They will be in rubber by this weekend! Thanks to Thor for letting be use his Badger Media Blaster. I highly reccomend it, saved me 3 days work! Quote
TER-OR Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 I'll pre-order two. See you at Wfest in two weeks! Quote
tundrayeti Posted May 13, 2012 Author Posted May 13, 2012 I wont be there personally, as my sister is having her wedding, but they will be avaliable there. Thor will be manning the trenches. Quote
Skull One Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Sorry for my excitement man, but i think your VC-33 Mom's Kitchen is fantastic!. Excelent! Quote
tundrayeti Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 Okay everyone Here is the moment you have all been patiently waiting for! Here are the first pics of the casting. This is the first pull of the fuselage, and I had to do a little cleanup but the small parts are done. Always the hardest part. I'll clean them up a little more, but you can see the details on the landing gear doors, etc. The engine vents can be put in either position, and the control panel came out great!. I'm waiting on my clear resin to get here before I do the canopy but I polished the hell out of that sucker!. ANyway I will post more tomorrow, But I will now be taking payments, I will be showing the engines etc over the few days, so you get more of an idea, but for now here is some eye candy. I should be ready to deliver in less than 2 weeks, I will have about 20 kits going to Wonderfest. Thanks! Quote
MechTech Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Awesome looking! I'm glad to see this design get some justice! - MT Quote
tundrayeti Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 Okay Time for an update and some eye candy. Some more pictures of the other parts. The door details, the rear stabilizers, and the engines. Also have an overall shot of the assembly area. Got quite a few almost ready to go. I have to redo one of the wing molds as the current one is just not working out. I forgot to add a close up pic, but if you look at the assembly area you can see the canopies. They came out great, I'm going to throw them in my polisher for a few hours. a little future and these will be clear as glass! wing mold should be done this weekend, so hopefully, i will get the first kits out by Monday. MechTech Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I looked up "gorgeous" in the dictionary and the above pictures were in there - MT Quote

cool8or Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 How much does it cost a kit? Plus shipping to Chile? Quote
tundrayeti Posted June 12, 2012 Author Posted June 12, 2012 Just finishing up packaging. Should be shipping them out by this weekend. Had to go out of town on business unexpectedly last week and this week so it caused a few delays. As usual. I will be posting my own build of this kit as well. Should be home tomorrow. I will be sending pm's with tracking numbers soon. How much does it cost a kit? Plus shipping to Chile? I'll send you a pm later Quote
