Ahab Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 These 1/2000 scale valks and battroids from Yamato were briefly covered in a previous thread some time ago, but I thought I'd share a few pictures with a 1/2000 ARMD for reference. The sculpts are quite nice with amazing detail with the battroid having two pieces: figure and wing/backpack unit. I'd imagine, if you can get past the scale difference, these tiny VF-1S mecha would work well with 1/3000 displays, as well. I stumbled upon these while on a random "macross"search at HLJ. Quote

I've primarily been working on the electronics for the ARMDs and the SDF-1 (each ship has an independent power source). I'll be posting progress pics, I hope, very soon. Ahab Quote

Perhaps 1/1750-1/1800 scale. It still feels right to me though. Everything becomes nebulous when it comes to the "official" dimensions in the early 80's Macross universe! Quote

I decided to punish myself tonight and tackle the 1/2000 battroid! I found when painting this small, a more impressionistic approach works best. I'll upload more images when I create the 1/2000 SDF-1 build up thread in the building and customizing forum. Until then, here's a little taste.. Quote

sketchley Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I'd guess that they are using Gundam Markers, or some other fine-nibbed oil-based pen to do the painting. The lines look approximately 0.4 to 0.7 mm, which match the nib size of my Gundam Marker. Must be hell to cut out of the sprue, and trim the flash... Quote

Source: http://www.yamato-to...x.php?logid=351 My recommendation would be using a toothpick. That's what I used for my 1/3000 Valyries. Simply sharpen the tip of wooden toothpick and split the tiny tip into brush shape - just the very tip to hold paint/ink. You will need to use the paint thinner as well with paint. Then it's better than 3 hair brush If you make mistakes, use design knife to scratch off the area. It actually helps you getting the straight lines as well. Hope this helps Quote

This video gives a sense of how unreasonably large it is: Looks a little floppy/unstable to me, but that might be due to the unfinished state it is in for the video. I successfully avoided the Arcadia sdf-1 but it would have been tough to avoid this thing if I was collecting when it came out. I never did get a 1/20 vf-1 but I think I’ll bite if they release the fighter version. Quote
