Jefuemon Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 OK, so we've all seen what's lying on your workbench, but what actually is your workbench? I use my brother-in-law's old school desk. It also doubles as my wife's make-up table/hobby area (she likes deco-ing things) Paint, paint, paint. I'm a 99% Mr. Color guy. I would like to know how a person who doesn't build Gundam kits gets so many different shades of Gundam gray, though..... Brush collection, and my airbrush set-up. Various tools of the trade. I've recently found that a 100 yen pack of bamboo skewers makes wonder paint stirrers and part holders. Green nippers for removing parts. Older red nippers for cutting big chunks of plastic, or my bamboo skewers in half. Plus, my next kit I'm going to work on. Have to go back to basics sometimes! My painting area. When it's warm enough, just open the window, and I've got no problems. In winter, I use the Tamiya spray booth my wife was kind enough to get me last Christmas. Wear a respirator whenever I paint, though. So, what does your area look like? Quote
GU-11 Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 That's a pretty nice setup you've got there. Since I've neither a spray booth or an proper respirator, I do all my spraying in the patio or front porch. For assembly work, I use either my workstation or my IKEA Malm chest. Tamiya paints are stored in a tool box, while brushes, markers and files are stored in a TV remote holder. No point in showing pics since its not even a proper workbench. Quote
derex3592 Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I just completed a whole "back room of the house" cleanout and hobby room setup...I have been using the dining room table....us unmarried guys can get away with that....however...it was a little ghetto.. so... here we go. First two pics is of the room..second pic is my workbench in the garage for painting. I really need a spraybooth though...anybody got any recommendations??? Quote
cwmodels Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 (edited) Photos are old, the table is much more cluttered now! And there's more stuff in the case too! Edited January 7, 2012 by cwmodels Quote
Jefuemon Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 I really need a spraybooth though...anybody got any recommendations??? You could try making one yourself, by using an exhaust fan, dryer hose, and a box. One guy I used to know made one out of an old kitchen range hood, and build a wood box to hold it. OR, you could get a Tamiya like I've got. Very quiet, and works pretty well. I just have to remember to hold the part more inside the hood portion than outside. Quote
MechTech Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I SOOooo need to get a display case like you guys I've posted earlier versions of this, but it's a very SIMPLE setup. I got a cheap milk table (front folds up for more space) for the actual bench. The columns are simply cheap plastic pull out drawers screwd onto the table. On top of that took a cheap pine board and put several smaller plastic drawer units on it with bolts. Lights are hooked up under that. The important thing - this was done over a period of time so I could pay out a little at a time. I have moved four times with this setup and with the exception of a couple bins cracking, its hanging in there. The bad part, it's white and so are styrene parts that fly out of your tweezers - MT Quote
