EXO Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 You don't want to see this glorious HD?! Blasphemy!! It just ended? Who else was expecting amateur porn? Maybe I should be grateful... all of a sudden Anime Friend outsourced episodes don't look that bad.Pre-ordered!!! Quote
Freiflug88 Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 http://av.watch.impr...106_502775.html Best news ever. Saving up is gonna be annoying though. I never save money for such doodads anymore. Instead I listened to "Rich Dad" and have started saving up assets that buy my doodads with cashflow. You don't want to see this glorious HD?! Blasphemy!! Go Steve Racer Go Steve Racer Go Steve Racer GO! Quote
Graham Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Not much interest in this to be honest, even if subbed. Happy with my Animego set. Even if their were English subs, would Blu-ray honestly do anything to improve the video quality of an anime TV series from 1982? (honest question coming from someone who has yet to see the need for a Blu-ray player). And I already own Pefect Memory, so no need for that. Graham Quote
kyekye Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Pre-order is up at AmiAmi with 16% off. BD Macross Blu-ray BOX Complete Edition [First Release Limited Edition] BD Macross Blu-ray BOX [Regular Edition] I'd say this is only for collectors who wants to celebrate 30th anniversary or people who wants extras come with it. I'm still thinking about it, but probably pass this time. Quote

Graham It's a lot cheaper & smaller than a pachinko machine, and has the pachinko animation on a seperate disc? As for upgrading to bluray in general, that's something you have to experience properly to understand. Quote

It's nice of them to give us extras like the pachinko game footage, but will Blu-Ray really make this 30-year old cartoon look any better? They'll be upscaling video. The sound is still mono. And as EXO said, I don't know if I wanna see some of those scenes in HD. Quote
Gubaba Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 That's kinda how I feel...much as I want this Blu-Ray set to succeed (and I do!)...really... I've GOT the series, I've GOT "Perfect Memory," I've GOT pretty much all the extras EXCEPT the Pachinko stuff... so, uh...what do I do? (Now, if my subs and Macross Mech Graffiti were part of the deal...? That'd be a different story...) Quote

Gundam may be look better, but I think that's more of Bandai always having better (or rather, properly maintained) masters of it than they ever have of their Macross. Quote

The only advantage of this BD is that at the very least, you won't need to a region-hacked player for it since the US and Japan are in the same BD-region. I'm not quite sure AmJ's listing of "all-region" is that accurate, yet. Quote

Mechamaniac Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 You want my subs? I'll hand 'em to you if you wish! Thanks! Then all I have to do is remaster my own versions of the BD's I just paid $600 bucks for! Or...have my kids hold up flash cards like the ring girls at a boxing match! The point I'm trying to make is that YOU shouldn't have to extend such a generous offer. Given that the series is 30 years old, and has been officially translated and subbed at least twice that we know of, it wouldn't kill them to include the subs with this set which purports to be an "ultimate" edition. Adding subs can't possibly cost them much more. Quote

There may be a question of whether Big West even has the timed subtitle scripts or even if they did, whether they bothered to hand it over to Bandai Visual. I probably won't buy this BD set. Save for a few episodes and some select scenes, Macross TV wasn't really animated well, and I just don't feel the need to watch it or have it in HD. I will however get DYRL on BD. I do want the extras though, even though I already have 2 Perfect Memory books... just can't justify it no matter what the Japanese pay for their sets. They clearly have more money for BDs and toys. I'm glad this is coming out though for the people that want. I'm really interested in some of those episodes, mainly Love Drifts Away in HD. Quote
Knight26 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 About the only good thing in this is the panchinko footage, but even that is not worth the price. Quote

VF5SS Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 jeez it's not like we're not going to pirate rips and sub them anywayz like we did for the passed 15 releases :v Quote

VF5SS Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Sorry Renato, Bandai made those videos to convince Americans that Gundam is kewl you can just copy the url and use keepvid.com to download it though Quote

Bluray video can store richer color and contrast levels that is impossible for DVD encodes. Quote

Keith Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 It all depends on how much care is put in, but a nicely done remaster or upscale of anything cell animated can be a great improvement. Yeah, certain Macross episodes have dubious quality, but the vibrancy & detail can still improve (if done right). Quote
Solidus Snake Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I don't know if I'm willing to spend $512 on this. My wallet felt a pinch when I bought Sayanora no Tsubasa, and $80 isn't all that much. Quote
big F Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I'm not sure if I would want to get it on BD just yet as, I cant really shell out that kind of money, on something that I kinda already have. So I'm gonna let all you who are buy it and then let me know if it is worth the bother. Quote
