VF-4 Poll

  1. 1. If you lived in Japan would you pre-order a VF-4?

    • I would pre-order but I'm not sure I can afford it.
    • Yes I would pre-order, but I would only buy it if it was under $300 (about 24000円).
    • I would pre-order it and buy it at any price.
    • I would pre-order it just to bump the numbers, but won't actually buy it.

I didn't preorder the VF-19 or VF-17.

But I'm tempted to change my mind for the VF-4.

Fin/wing angles still all wrong from head-on. Tell 'em Graham!

(canards and wings should be parallel, ventral fins and tailfins should be aligned with each other)

until december that really sucks specially for the internacional shippings always delay but for the other side yamato dont have excuses not to make a perfect valkyrie I only hope the mayas are wrong

According to the interview, Mr. Kawamori’s already started supervising the development.

Notice the amendments around the fighter’s underside and intakes. Nothing about the wings and fins alignment yet

I have sent Yamato many emails over the past few weeks about both the VF-4 and VF-17, but no replies, which is strange :(

But sometimes they do have long periods when they stay out of touch. The longest was 6 months. It's weird, sometimes I get several calls or emails a week and then sometimes nothing for ages.

Anyway, I have made them aware of all the various issues with the VF-4 computer art. Whether they act on them is up to them.

Wings angle, and hopefully a nose mod (give the underside an upward slope) and it would be perfect!

Hope they can/will make the changes.

That being said, still really liking what I see.

That thing is never gonna stand on its own... :D

I think I've said this before, if Toynami could get their Beta Fighter to stand evenly in just about any pose....Yamato will get this bad boy to stand up tall & level!! B))

I don't see why it can't stand on its own. Between the protruding chest and the mass that is past the shoulder, it almost looks balanced, if not a little top heavy. I guess if the diecast is put in the right places, it should work just fine.

Posted

^I was just thinking if it's engineered right they should be able to adjust the weight of the pieces to offset whichever half is protruding more. That's not easy to design into something in some cases.

Long as they fix the major issues, I might preorder a couple of these.. Well, at least one, depending on price.

I would like to know why those feet are on it though. If they didn't actually protrude, it wouldn't look so bad, but having the VF-1 style pointed feet stick out just looks ugly. If they do wind up going with those, I hope you can just push them all the way inside the legs.

Yeah still waiting on price. . .

I was told "probably most expensive valkyrie yet, but not supposed to be too much more expensive than the latest offerings. Price isn't fixed but under 30,000 Yen, goal is probably 25,000." Of course, that's before we pay for someone to get this for us and then ship it to us :(.

yeah... I'd have to really think about a 400$ price tag.

Me too. This toy will have to be all sorts of amazing in order for me to buy one.

Well we got until December to save up right?

Start redeeming cans, bottles, or donatable organs.

I found a couple dollars in change in the couch. It's a start. And lots of lint. Too bad lint isn't worth money. :p

I'd spring for one for $400 simply because it's so unique we're practically guaranteed they won't get cheaper and we may never see something like this made again. I would not get three, one for every mode, like I tend to do though.

My sources tell me that the VF-4 will be over $9000, NOT including shipping. :p

Seriously though, I don't expect it to be any more than what current valks are going for right now. Worst case scenario would mean $350 at HLJ.

Here's an example where the web exclusive version is $50 more than the regular release:

YF-19: http://www.hlj.com/product/YMT00187

YF-19 Weathered Web-Exclusive: http://www.hlj.com/product/YMTGK-08

Another example is a $30 difference:

Destroid Defender: http://www.hlj.com/product/YMT09026

Destroid Defender Weathered Web-Exclusive: http://www.hlj.com/product/YMT00121

We got till December. More than enough time to save up for at least 1, hopefully.

This would be the biggest driving factor in me getting one. There's just nothing else out there in Macross that looks like that.

Aha.. take a look at the right hand pic of that second image. Looks like the nose is already shaping up a bit better. Can't tell much else from the low resolution, but it also looks like the canards are a lower angle in that image. Still no change to the feet though.

Would love to see a close-up of that one, it looks like they show some of the internals.

While I doubt they'd be able to adapt it directly due to the different transformation, isn't the VF-4 supposed to canonically use the entire forward nose section from the VF-1? That might be a good reference for the shape, but the VF-4 always looked like it had a longer nosecone.

No, IIRC that was the VF-X-4.

Yeah I read somewhere that it used 60% of the VF-1's parts or whatever. Dont quote me on the percentage. But would make sense to use the front end of the VF-1. But I don't really care if thats what it was suppose to be. I want the bent nose.

Posted (edited)

The trial-produced VF-X-4 featured most of the key design features that would be included in the final VF-4 Lightning III design, but was initially built using 35% VF-1 Valkyrie parts (notably, the nose and forward fuselage of the VF-1 fighter)

I don't have anything against the game, but I'm somewhat annoyed that this VF-4 they're making for this year isn't the Hikaru Ichijo version. It's 2012 and Macross' 30th anniversary, and we finally get the VF-4, but it's based on a game. What gives?

Well, at least Yamato can release a Hikaru Ichijo version in the future that's not a web exclusive item and has the fixes to design any problems that this game version might or might not sustain.

If you squint you can see that their colored CAD rendering does have the Hikaru type orangey-tan nosecone.

I'm not even sure many people even in Japan remember what the VF-X version looks like.

The VF-X version varies depending on either the promo CG or the in game model.
