airgamer
I'm new here Happy Holidays to all (for those who celebrate Christmas and New Years)! Does anyone play any sci-fi MMOs? I recently checked out ACE Online, which a sci-fi aerial combat MMO...looks similar to Macross in some aspects. It's not a military aerial combat MMO, but it's more sci-fi-ish. You can check it out at http://ace.subagames.com Here's a video I came across on YouTube: Looks really cool. Thought you guys might find it interesting. An MMO and anime similarity
mikeszekely
I played Star Trek Online for awhile, and I know a number of other board members did. I canceled my sub, but I plan on playing again when it goes free-to-play in early 2012.
Duke Togo
I used to play EVE Online; I'm not sure you can find a more hardcore sci-fi MMO.
Old_Nash
I played TaiKodom for much time.
airgamer
I never was a fan of Star Trek...never caught my interest...is the MMO any good? Haha I heard that a lot of P2P MMOs are going f2p in 2012. I was going to play EVE since my friend played it I thought that game required subscription or something like that? Ghost Train
EVE has a 14 day trial but, yes after that it's subscription based. I haven't played in about a year, but I think if you're good at making ISK (in-game currency), you can use your ISK to buy game time cards, all legal of course, pretty neat huh? There is also RF: Online, which is kind of a combination of SciFi & Fantasy. Last I heard it was free to play.
falc0
Yep, I've played ACE. What level are you? I've been playing the game and I'm at level 3x. Waiting for Episode 4 to be released.
airgamer
lol I'm only level 12...been playing for only a few weeks and doing other things as well. I know it doesn't take that long to level up..I've just been busy. How long have you been playing?
mikeszekely
I never was a fan of Star Trek...never caught my interest...is the MMO any good? I liked it for three main reasons. 1 - Excellent ship-based combat. Like a faster, prettier, more intense Starfleet Command 3, you used energy weapons to wear away at shields, and torpedos for maximum damage on unprotected hull. You could dirvert power to different systems for speed, offensive, and defensive reasons, and your captain and bridge officers brought special skills into the mix. 2 - Main quest strings played out like episodes of the shows. Probably not as big a draw if you're not a fan of the shows, but I liked it, and it helped the game feel like there was reason behind a quest instead of finding a dude with a quest marker, running off the check list, and turning it in for your reward. 3 - You could play most of the game as if it were a single player game. Main quests were designed as if you're ship is on it's own, and ground missions had you controlling your captain while the AI controlled a few of your bridge officers as your away team. It's true that in sector space, you'd see other players cruising along, and there was definitely PVE and PVP stuff you could do, but it was never required (although, at higher levels, it was harder to get enough XP if you didn't do some group-based gameplay). I have mixed feelings about other stuff in the game. Ground missions have improved from when the game first launched, but it's still not as fun as ship combat. I also like that if you were running out missions but not interested in the group stuff, you could do community-authored quests. Some of the ones I did were quite clever and entertaining, but some of them were a little tedious. To get quest rewards, though, you had to do three of them, and many of them were on the longish side, which sometimes left you feeling like it was a lot of work for a little reward. CoryHolmes
RIght now, I'm hip-deep into TOR. I have officially mortgaged my soul to that game and would even use it in an IV for life-support if I could That being said, there's a Transformers MMO due out later this year. I may have to find ways of dividing my time...
