pfunk Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I know there is a an unreleased toy topic pinned which is very helpful, but all these years I never saw a true Macross movie and TV series timeline pinned here. I know a few gifted individuals would be more then happy Quote
sketchley Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Try: http://macross.anime.net/wiki/Category:Chronology One I've been working on over the past few years (in some ways more simple than the Compendiums, in some ways more complicated): http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Timeline.htm [Note: "Official Setting information is in darkgreen. Extended Universe information is in steelblue."] Quote
pfunk Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 That would be kick @$$ if someone graphed that and put the movies and series within the timeline (like different colors like you have it listed, but horizontal) and then make it clickable Quote

How detailed do you want it? (Please don't say TOO detailed...or else all of the little contradictions between dates in various publications will somehow have to be reconciled... For example, Misa Hayase: White Reminiscences has the Zentradi attack a full YEAR before it happens in the series...) Quote

Not sure, something of a clickable timeline that even puts you too the Compendiums or other references like stated earlier which would make it a bit more interactive and editable like a click to reference maybe as it evolved maybe even clickable pictures or under (not flash, but regular HTML) Quote

Best I've got is this... http://galaxynetwork.blogspot.com/2009/03/macross-timeline.html and it's nowhere NEAR complete yet. Quote

Naw man,. the way you wrote LINK is fine, cept instead of referencing a blog, maybe link to the Compendiums (at work here and elsewhere they block blogs and personal sites) Would that make it easier,, maybe. Whats yer thoughts Quote
Gubaba Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) Naw man,. the way you wrote LINK is fine, cept instead of referencing a blog, maybe link to the Compendiums (at work here and elsewhere they block blogs and personal sites) Would that make it easier,, maybe. Whats yer thoughts The LINK references the EPISODES THEMSELVES, right? ...so anyone who wants to check out the timeline for themselves can do so, yes? But yeah, I see what you're saying. The problem is that, if you're only using the animated works, the timeline works out (mostly) fine (the "mostly" is because Focker says (to HIMSELF) in SDFM TV Episode 1 that he hasn't seen any action in two years, but Zero flies in the face of that), and if you include Kawamori's original timeline (slightly revised in Macross Chronicle, to correct things like references to the Soviet Union), it's still okay... Hell, even "My Fair Minmay" is okay... But once you start trying to figure out where "Miss DJ" and "Distantly Fading Memories" fit, it becomes MUCH more difficult. And that's BEFORE the Misa novel messes irrevocably with the timeline (setting the "Rain of Death" in 2009, as it does). And that's just the first series... it gets worse as it goes on. Especially when you get to all the Frontier comics and novels and their different continuities. I appreciate Egan Loo's efforts towards trying to make a coherent timeline out of Macross, but I also think he irons over a TON of continuity problems in order to do so. pfunk Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 The LINK references the EPISODES THEMSELVES, right? Yeah, I think something of that nature and then the overlap or continuity of somethings would be obvious, but at least instead of "ironing them out" it would be apparent which makes the most sense instead of trying to cover up and color code the lettering (timeline would be cool though) to show that discontinuity so it makes more sense Quote

I've put a "Translator's note" in Misa Hayase: White Reminiscences, and I'll probably put some kind of note if I actually get to Macross Zero. And yes, I'm going to color-code the timeline. I'm just trying to decide if DYRL should be the same shade of red as SDFM TV, or if it should be more orange. Quote

Gubaba Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Sweet, cant wait to see Our DYRL version should be out by February... I'm hoping for the Misa novel and drama album before that. And THEN there's the DYRL novelization to consider, in which the Macross has the Daedalus and Prometheus attached, and Hikaru and Misa find the wreck of the ARMD-05 on earth... Believe me...the more you read, the more you realize how messed up the entire Macross continuity is. Quote
pfunk Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 I know of a couple, but I think it would be good to quantify it,,, sure as heck reducing the amount of questions Quote
