peter Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Do you know if they even constructed an actual physical model for filming or was it all CGI? Quote
Kyp Durron Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I loved that scratch build of the live action film - wished there was a kit form of that one! I want Bandai to do a SoC version of the live action ship, it would be a instant buy for me. Quote
wm cheng Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Do you know if they even constructed an actual physical model for filming or was it all CGI? It looked totally CGI... unfortunately. Quote
peter Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 It’s funny, they went to the trouble to build one third of IJN Yamato in 1/1 scale for the 2005 film, but some scenes looked really crappy when the movie was done, as if it was all really bad CGI. What a waste of a perfectly good set because it looked pretty damn real when I was there in person. Then they tore the whole thing down and scrapped most of the pieces. They should have built it in Kure at the Yamato Museum, where they probably would have preserved the entire set. Well, I’m sure that won’t be the last film about IJN Yamato to be made, same thing goes with Uchu Senkan Yamato. I bet there will be a remake in about 5-10 years. Quote
Tochiro Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Just got my hands on these two monstrous tomes. So much in here, including (at first glance) a few deleted scenes. Really highlights just how much work Nobuteru put into the show. Very very humbling stuff. Quote
wm cheng Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Are they all character artwork or is there any mech as well? Quote
UN Spacy Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Hoping those will pop up on Mandarake as they're NOT being sold at the usual e-tailers. Quote
westfall Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Yuuki didn't do mecha so... it's all character layouts from the episodes where he provided keyframe work.Tochiro, which version did you get? C86, Anime Style or Yamato Crew? Quote
Tochiro Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Yamato Crew version. It was the least hassle - it just turned up on my doorstep :-) For those asking, this is a collection of Nobuteru's key frame work. So no, no mecha. But damn he did a LOT of work - so many iconic character scenes... Edited September 16, 2014 by Tochiro Quote
Dobber Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Hi guys, here is my 1/500 Yamato build in progress. Been working on the hull weathering. Trying to replicate the worn look of some builds I've seen online. Plus I'd imagine with all Yamato went through plus in and out of atmospheres, nebula, etc she'd get a bit worn looking. Also liked the paneling that was on the slip jackets of the last few blu-ray releases. Remember, still working on her. All assemblies are built just not on the hull yet so I can easily work on them. Chris Quote
treatment Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Nice! Keep us posted with updates on that. I'm really wanting to get the 1/500 kit, too. Anyway, started on my current kits and did a quick build of the Kodai Cosmo Zero:1/72 Cosmo Zero A1 Kodai edition (album)(Scaling with the old 1/72 YF-21 from Macross Plus anime)As such, I'm not that impressed with this 1/72 kit. Way too simple. Really needs to be painted and detailed/panel-lined, as the default colored plastic is too bland. The ordnances need to be glued to the ship for placements.Bandai is overpricing this kit at msrp. This kit should only cost US$15 max. Quote
treatment Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 So after some simple panel-lining and gluing the missiles and tanks...Kodai's A1 looks a bit better now, I reckon. At least, to me.Not gonna bother with the rest of the water-slide decals and dunno if/when I'll even paint the pilot.I'll prolly try panel-wash technique on Rei's A2 when I get time. Quote
Dobber Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I like it. The paneling really make it look better. Chris Quote
Dobber Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 New pictures of my Yamato build are posted in the on the bench section. More pictures here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=35120&p=1154481 Chris Quote
treatment Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 That's a very nice Yurisha! Hope MH colors her well. Quote
wm cheng Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Beautiful Dobber!!! Can't wait to see more. Are you planning to add any decals over that beautiful weathering job? Remember to gloss coat the areas where the decals go so it would minimize the "silvering" then flat-coat it back - you might loose a bit of the subtle weathering during these clear coat processes. Thanks William and yes I'll be adding the decals still. I'll probably add just a touch more weathering over them so they don't stand out too much and to fix any loss in the subtle weathering. I usually add decals after weathering....weird I know...so I can fix any mistakes I may make. Plus, I always worry about washes and pastel chalks (which I use mostly in my weathering) bringing out the edges of the decals. So far all the weathering here has been done with pencils and pastel chalk. Chris Quote
antibiotictab Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 They keep on coming... Oh, that Yamato model will be released finally. And the 2 new Yamato girls. I have never seen those prototype models yet. I am not sure, but those may be exhibited at All Japan Model and Hobby Show from today. Quote
Mr March Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 I think I would buy a mechanical artworks for this series. I like the modern sensibilities applied to the classic designs. Very cool stuff. Though those character books look fantastic. Quote
antibiotictab Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 SBY only. At All Japan Model & Hobby Show Quote
myk Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Wait, are you saying that Yurisha is a show exclusive? Quote
treatment Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Wait, are you saying that Yurisha is a show exclusive? I think (rather, hope) antibiotictab just means only SBY stuff on the posted video. It'll be a damn tragic crime against humanity for Yurisha to be a show-exclusive figure... Quote
antibiotictab Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 (edited) "来春発(売予定)" were on the card. ”It is panned to be sold next spring", so don't worry. P.S. Ah, now I understand. Yamato (related items) only, as the title goes. I made another video about the exhibit, and it has variety of the other items and Yamato. Edited October 1, 2014 by antibiotictab Quote

Beltane70 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 It's nice to see Gatlantis ships finally get decent sized models instead of the real tiny ones frome the late 70s, early 80s! Quote
