taksraven Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Question, dealing with Comet Empire from the orginal 2nd season of SBS Yamato: Why does the Comet Empire/Gatlantian Dreadnaught have main guns simular to the Terrans Wet Navy ships instead of the common rotary turrets seem on almost all of the Gatlantian ships? Simplest and most likely reason. Because they look badass compared to the other guns. Can't really see and in-show reason why the guns were built this way compared to what their fleets were equpped with. Don't forget that the Gamilons had different ships equipped with different types of guns as well..... Quote
westfall Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Never really thought about that! XDDD A possible reason... Since that thing is basically buried inside the city, it's probably been down there for some time. Though their weapons design changed with time, it would be too much trouble to remove whatever is on top of it to replace the gun turrets... XD Quote
Kyp Durron Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 (edited) My order shipped from AmiAmi yesterday, I got two of them, and with the points I've earned, it came out to a little over $13 total including EMS shipping for two of them, can't beat that! Edited April 27, 2014 by Kyp Durron Quote
Dangard Ace Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Starblazers.com put up a 2199 mecha page. http://starblazers.com/mecha/ Quote

Kyp Durron Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Just got the mecha collection 01 Yamato 2199 in today and put it together. I can't recommend it highly enough. The hull panel lining detail is only second to the new 1/500 model and not by much! I'm not kidding... Quote
Kyp Durron Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 These pics are better than any I could take, they really show the insane panel line detail this tiny model has : http://www.gunjap.net/site/?p=168279 Quote
wm cheng Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Now if they could do it on that tiny model... why couldn't they include these details on the GX-64? Quote
Kyp Durron Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Probably because they figured that we don't generally see all those panel lines in the anime, which we don't. This is all we see for about 90% of the anime : Quote
wm cheng Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Anyone confirmed a english dubbed track on the Funiamtion Live Action Yamato bluray release? Quote
westfall Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Yes, it has an english dub. A few pronunciation issues aside, it's reported to be "not the best but not that bad". Quote
Keith Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Anyone confirmed a english dubbed track on the Funiamtion Live Action Yamato bluray release? Not sure why yu'd think I was lying about that... Quote
Dynaman Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 Just finished watching it and I confirm that it "is not the best but not that bad". Most of the voices are a decent match with the exception of Okita - the actor did a decent job but the voice just didn't match up. Funny thing - the over acting does not seem so noticable with the English dub... Finally - the Blue Ray picture quality is spectacular. Quote
Major Focker Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 These pics are better than any I could take, they really show the insane panel line detail this tiny model has : http://www.gunjap.net/site/?p=168279 i'm probably alone in this, but i think it would've looked better with less panel lines, particularly some of the minor vertical ones. it would've been fine if the grooves were narrower, but that's probably tough at this scale. this shot: made me think of donuts Quote
CrazyDude Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I love my Mecha College Yamato, waiting for the Yukikaze to arrive and the announced kits. Dunkin Donuts get some ones at Hara Donuts. Quote
Kyp Durron Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I'm really debating panel lining this with my gundam marker, the panel lines are so sharp and detailed in person as is, that I don't think marking them in with either a panel line wash or a gundam marker is going to translate well at that scale.I think I'm just going to paint the windows and other minor details and leave it at that. Tochiro Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 The name of the main enemy from the 2nd movie has been revealed....Gatlantis. ;-) Quote
Dynaman Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 In case you are joking Gatlantis is the Japanese name for the Comet Empire. Quote
myk Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Wasn't joking; I was born a Star Blazers kid, as opposed to being a Space Cruiser Yamato kid. So is this a confirmation of a 2nd series? Quote
Tochiro Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) No, it is not confirmation of a second series, just what the 2nd movie will be about (the first being a compilation flick). Now, the audience was asked to keep the following quiet, so let's keep the following to the MW boards until theres an official press release ^^; Movie 1: -Will be approx. 2 hours -have currently gotten it down to 3 hours so theres still some work to go. -staff commented that it wont be as disjointed as the original Yamato compilation movie. -It will be a more '2199-ish' compilation movie (whatever that means ^^; ) Movie 2 -Key visual image (as of yet unreleased) showed the Yamato from behind in a sea of clouds with a white planetoid-looking object in the distance that was bathed in an ominous light. -The enemy is Gatlantis, although only the word Gatlantis was said. The term White Comet Empire was not actually used (yet). -Staff were quick to point out that this was not going to be the same as Arrivederci (again, its going to be more '2199-ish') -No actual animation has apparently been completed yet. -Releases on Dec. 6. UN Spacy Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 That's great news. I hope it'll lead in to a Gatlantis/Comet Empire season two. Quote
mechaninac Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I'll add my hopes that the second movie does lead to a 2199 season 2 (wouldn't that be 2201 or something?) Comet Empire arc; best season of the original Uchuu Senkan Yamato/Starblazers and guaranteed to be EPIC in its reimagined form. Also, I've written this before, but it bears repeating: redesigned/reimagined EDF ships from escorts and patrol cruisers all the way to the mighty Andromeda would be a feast for the eyes... and just imagining a whole fleet of newly engineered Bandai 1/1000 kits of the entire Earth fleet, and Gatlantis armada, makes me giddy... and my wallet whimper.
