Dobber Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 HOLY FARKING SCHNIT!!! That is a masterpiece! I'm still shocked that no kits from the movie where ever made. What a missed opportunity. Chris Quote
TehPW Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 OMG! Slightly OT since it's the live action movie version, but still... DAYUM!!! LOL they made the engine exhaust look like a jet engine exhaust cans LOL. If that looks OMG awesome, imagine the EDF ships made in that vein... *DROOLS* LOL Clearly some folks where VERY effected by the movie Yamato (maybe JJ-Trek's 2009 Enterprise too) Quote
mechaninac Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 That's the way it appears in the movie; check out their WIP to see just how much attention they paid to the source material... it's inspiring and scary at the same time. As for the other EDF ships, check out their entire site... simply mind blowing. The fully lit Andromeda is theirs too. Quote
TehPW Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 *looks, junk relocates due to rapture* I swear if Macross & yamato had children, then their yamato CGN's would have PPB systems and Cheyene hard points, and many, many Otaku zippers would rattle the heavens... Quote

miles316 Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 I never watched yamato/starblazers when i was a kid is the Andromeda a newer more powerful ship than the Yamato? Quote
mechaninac Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 (edited) It's the EDF's flagship, introduced on the second season of SBYamato/Starblazers (The Comet Empire arc). It was meant to be a fully automated dreadnaught with limited crew requirements. Edit.: Which makes me want the production of 2199 to continue past the Iscandar arc and go into Comet Empire and Bolar Wars, and beyond... the little I've seen so far of the re-imagining is truly luscious. A redone battle of Saturn would be pure drool inducing, fleet battle porn. Edited May 28, 2012 by mechaninac Quote
Dobber Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 So has anyone watched volume 1 yet? Curious how the english subs are. Quote
Vifam7 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 So has anyone watched volume 1 yet? Curious how the english subs are. Just watched my Blu-ray disc. The English subs are excellent. The 2 episodes were fantastic! This is definitely how a remake should be done. Every Starblazer/Uchuu Senkan Yamato fan should go and buy the Blu-ray disc. Quote

Keith Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I never watched yamato/starblazers when i was a kid is the Andromeda a newer more powerful ship than the Yamato? If you've ever seen Star Trek III, the whole Excelsior scenario is lifted directly from Yamato II/Arrividerci. The previous hero ship (Yamato/Enterprise) is mothballed despite its recognized service. In leiu of repairing it, it's pushed out of the way of the new badass ship (Andromeda/Excelsior). The preivous ship's engineer (Sanada/Scotty) takes a position aboard the new ship to sabotage it while the old crew get's back together to get the old ship running for an emergency mission. In both cases hilarity ensues as the much regailed new battleship mysterious has a breakdown and is unable to persue the hijacked old ship. And strangely in both cases, the Andromeda & Excelsior stand out as some of the most striking ship designs in either franchise. Quote
myk Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I'd like to grab this. Where to buy? Right now ebay or amazon JP; it can cost you about a C-note so I hope you've got deep pockets... Quote

Volume 2 is already a little more pricey but I pre-ordered it already as I don't want them to be hard to get after more people see v1. AmiAmi has them also, though v1 is back-ordered. Dynaman Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 I'm gonna play the waiting game and hope someone licenses it after it's completed. I'm just going to buy it, watch it, then sell it. I should be able to make enough to treat it as if it were a rental. If the series is supposed to be 7 discs (if I heard that right) then future discs will need to 4 episodes in length to make it to 26 total. Are they going to put half as much money into each episode after the first couple? I hope not, the detail is excellent so far - even on what would be the second disc. Quote
Keith Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I doubt they're going to cut the animation budget, I think the 2 episdoes per for the first couple volumes is to help with the production schedule. Quote
Tochiro Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Only the first volume has 2 episodes. All the others will have 4 episodes. As far as animation quality, the first 2 eps were actually more expensive to make than average - the price of subsequent eps to make was actually a little cheaper (less mech a in some eps than others, reusable assets, etc). There will be a piece I wrong where General Director Izubuchi mentions this on star blazers.com soon (possibly June 1). The subs aren't Gundam Unicorn quality but they are passable. They are done by a native speaker so they make sense. Personally theres quite a few translation choices I disagreed with so I anded up turning them off so I stopped rewriting them in my head ^^; Quote
Dynaman Posted May 31, 2012 Author Posted May 31, 2012 Turning off the subtitles is not an option for me, other then a-sin, asharp, and a couple of other words I don't understand Japanese... My order is on the way, promised to be here no later then Tuesday. Quote

Probably not as noticeable unless you understand the vocal track anyway. Slightly off-topic, but a translation of an interview with Hidetaka Tenjin regarding his work on Yamato Fact File illustrations just went up over at starblazers.com. http://www.starblazers.com/html.php?page_id=76 Quote

peter Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 (edited) I used to watch Starblazers when I was a kid, and when I got older, I got my hands on a 5 cassette VHS movie set of Space Battleship Yamato and thought it was awesome, but it's been more than 10 years since my VCR last worked and I don't really remember much about the TV series. Was the Musashi ever actually done in the tv show/movies? This is all I could find and I have to say, it's kind o ugly: more here: http://www.starblaze...e.com/1028.html Would have been pretty cool if they retrofitted IJN Musashi into EDF Musashi, sister ships that actually looked the same...at least more alike than that monstrosity above. Makes for some pretty cool imagery: Also, found these article: http://www.freethoug...ead.php?t=18081 http://newsinfo.inqu...arm-environment Would have been kind of cool to have a Yamato-class battleship as a floating musem, or even parked in dry dock. Edited June 4, 2012 by peter Quote
Dynaman Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 Musashi was never in Yamato, or if it was it didn't last long (most other EDF ships fall in that category...). I don't remember the ship above, might be a fan work or concept art. (then again it could be a ship seen in the show, once again not lasting very long) Quote

They will run a pre-auth when you place an order, or make a change (add or subtrack an item) from an order. Quote
JELEINEN Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 What do they do with Paypal orders? I couldn't find any of this on their site, so thanks. Quote
