Tenjin Rocks! An art book of these box art would be a must have.

No. Hidetaka Tenjin only draws the pictures of the fighter planes. Those vessels were by the other person.

Sorry, I attended a Yama-talk and heard whom he is in the event, but now I don't remember.

Considering that the shipping prices are set by the receiving PO or Carrier you won't see much price differences unless the shop swallows the shipping cost.

Yeah, I was a bit shocked at the shipping cost too...which I'm even more pissed about because I paid the shipping on Friday for FedEx and it still hasn't shipped yet!

Wow, I was going to buy the 1/500 yamato from hlj but shipping is murder to the US. Any places that ship cheaper.

Usually HLJ has the cheapest shipping in town. :(

Finally got round to finishing off the series. Fantastic. I'm going to have to buy the bluray at some stage and watch it all again on the home theater.

Amen to that. I have yet to crack the wrapper on my BD of Vol.7 because after seeing that particular chapter four times at the cinema, I can't bring myself to watch it on my home screen f^_^;

Yamato news 5 is up.

Summary:

1.Shipping costs are fixed now.

2.special items will be given to people who pre-order the dvd or blu-ray. If its bought through that book store chain its what I'm guessing is a cell phone strap, but it isn't announced yet what it will be if you order through the website.

3.they're in negotiations with Right Stuf to sell the dvds and blu-rays on there.

4.they will be attending SDCC and AnimeExpo this year. No word yet on other conventions.

5.went over the reason she has the index cards and is doing the learning time stuff. Apart from being how it was done in Japan she explained they are trying to reach both "big" and "little" children. She goes out of her way to make it clear it was a response to a youtube question so I think it was her way of publicly shaming someone who was quite frankly being a dick. I think she's getting tired of being called a dumb bimbo, useless, and stupid looking. I can't blame her to be honest. It's not her fault the company hired her and put her in this situation or decided to go with a very Japanese style of marketing. If the roles were reversed I don't think a lot of us here would do that well fumbling through Japanese trying to sell an american show there.

to paraphrase someone else "Her English is a heck of a lot better then my Japanese", she looks a lot better then me too.

I do have to wonder about the person that came up with the marketing campaign though.

Just got my new "official" 1/500 2199 Yamato. Man this sucker is huge....I now understand the shipping cost as the box is massive. First impressions are it looks fantastic and I'm looking forward to jumping into this one.

One thing I am a little disappointed by, though, is there is no detail to the Cosmo zero hangar and the door that slides open for the zero to get to the catapult is part of the large hull piece that covers the Cosmo Falcon hangar. So if you want to build your Yamato with the hangars opened realistically, without removing a portion of the hull, some modification will be required. Also, only one of the lower hangars can be opened....I had planed on opening both to have a Seagull on one side and a scout plane on the other.

Still a wonderful looking kit, well worth the money. Hopefully I will be starting my build soon and may incorporate some of these things into it.

Here are some quick/crappy pics from my IPad to show the size difference between the 1/1000 and the behemoth!

Wow!! I can't wait to see your build. Would you do a build up so I can follow along and drool? I'm really on the fence with this one since I have the 1/350 - thinking that will be my definitive one, but I do like these details.

English subs look like they've changed Yamato to Argo but the characters all retain their Japanese names. Since it's Starblazers I can live with that naming change.

Posted

Lame. Why change the ships name but not the characters? Especially when you here "YAMATO" being said, yelled, and shouted a hell of a lot more than characters...except maybe Yuki.

Glad I have the japanese bluray's now even more.

That's pretty sweet, looking forward to the build-up and some higher resolution shots. WM Cheng, when are you going to start building the 1/350 beast?

When I retire... right after my Fine Molds Millenium Falcon.

For anyone who has the 1/1000 scale ships, can you give a measurement of their hull lengths?

I want to know how big (or small) these are. I did order the 1/1000 Yamato with hopes of 'upsizing' it

to as close to 1/700 scale as I can. Like on here - http://www.geocities.jp/dourakuoyadi/newpage1000yamato.htm

I want it to fit in as close as possible to my older Bandai 1/700 ships, EDF Nike (at 18 inches long)

and EDF Interceptor

I just finished watching episode 26. The series definitely leaves me wanting more. There was some good character development during the entire series, and I found myself getting attached to most of them compared to Yamato Resurrection or the live action. The characters in Resurrection seemed dead and lifeless, and in contrast, the characters in the live action seemed overacted and way too over the top.

The animation was incredible overall, even better than Resurrection, and the designs of the ships and the characters were far better. They updated enough just to make it cool, but didn’t sway from the original so much where it was unrecognizable. Music and sound effects were perfect, lots of use of the original music (really hated the excessive orchestra music in Resurrection).

The type 3 rounds, couldn’t get enough of those, and it was cool how they integrated their use into the story. Some of the battle scenes seemed to emulate traditional sea battles from WWII. It was a bit unrealistic (like why would the enemy approach from above where all the AA guns are instead of from underneath the ship where there are none), but awesome nonetheless. It really didn’t matter to me at the end because the awesomeness outweighed the need for things to be explained logically.

The tone of the story was mostly serious overall, but once in a while, some humour was thrown in and just in the right amounts and the right times. There seemed to be a lot of fan service, and when they did throw it in there, it was so blatantly obvious, but not unwelcome, haha! The story overall didn’t leave me with a wtf feeling at the end, no unnecessary or needless deaths like Resurrection and the live action. Some scenes had the wife in tears, though for me, it was just a matter of dust in the eyes or something like that.

I definitely want to see more as it went by far too fast. The only crappy thing about this series is it will be really, really hard to top.

can someone explain a few things? the reference to a Icandaran sister? the Gam/Iscan chick's kneeling action upon realizing what or who is depected in the image player. and Yuki stepping up to save the soldier from getting (more) corperal punishment for some misconduct (i assume the mere talking with Yuki while she was still in the brig).

Yuki was captured by Garmilas soldiers infiltrating the Yamato after being mistaken for Starsha's sister, Yurisha, who was aboard the Yamato.

Domel's wife kneels because she recognizes Starsha, Iscandar's Queen in the image player.

The soldier wasn't being disciplined for misconduct, he was being beaten by the warden of the prison planet after insisting that he complete his mission to escort Yuki. The warden sees him as being inferior since he is from one of the colony worlds and not a pure-blooded Garmilus. Since they all think Yuki is Yurisha, she uses this to her advantage to stop the soldier from being unjustly beaten.

Thank you, that does help a little bit.

At $150 a pop how much of a deal is that? Looks like they're the special white variants.

Heck if I know. I'm not into buying figurines/statues. I'm just reporting what they've put up. Now if they started selling ships and the SOC that'd be a different story.

I'm kind of super tempted by the long haired red Yamamoto... $150 is really expensive though.
