To anyone that's seen the episodes, do any of these girls have any screen time? Asides from Yuki/Nova? In the first 2 eps Yuki gets the most screen time of the girls, but the Nurse (pink) gets a few lines, as does the girl on the at left. Am seeing eps 3-6 tomorrow so I'll let you know if some of them get a more prominent role.

Am seeing eps 3-6 tomorrow so I'll let you know if some of them get a more prominent role. In the first 9 minutes of episode 3 Kaoru Niimi (the blue one XD ) gets the privilege of describing how the Wave-Motion Gun works. Nice voice. Makoto (the nurse) gets a little screen time with a mid-warp sake guzzling Dr. Sado and Akira share's a brief Mars gazzing moment with Kodai. Yuria is thus the only one who has yet to utter a single word and is way behind the other in terms of screen time. But i bet they'll soon fix that. Tochiro, i hope you can share your experience with us and make ample use of the spoiler tags.
myk
Cool deal. I could never understand why they never had more girls on the crew back in the day. Remember the episode in the original series when deserters/mutineers ran off to some random planet and kidnapped Yuki for fun and games? Well they can at least liven up the party with the new talent...
westfall
It wasn't on a random planet, it was on Iscandar itself. Yabu, Tokugawa's aid, and a few random crew members decided they wanted to stay there since they believed the Earth was probably dead by then. The idea of using a single woman to repopulate the planet was incredibly stupid. Let's see if he tries to repeat the deed in this new version. myk
Yeah, yeah, Iscandar, that place. It's been awhile since I've seen the series. Well, they didn't have much of a choice about the single woman thing considering she was the only girl on the ship, lol...

Tochiro
Well, Ch. 2 more than lived up to explanations. If i had to surmise it in 2 non-spoilerific points, I'd say: a)Its mecha porn b) the Yamato f#!ks crap UP! For those who are familiar with the original series, the end of Ch. 2 sees the Yamato at the point where it's about to leave the solar system. There are 5 main plot points that get covered in the 4 episodes that comprise Ch. 2: 1)First Warp test 2)The floating continent base on Jupiter 3)First firing of the Wave Motion Gun. 4)Discovery of Yukikaze wreckage 5)Attack on gamillas Pluto base Izubuchi noted during the premier of Ch. 1 that Ch. 1 took more resources to make because there were fleets of ships on-screen simultaneously whereas normally episodes just have the Yamato being attacked by a number of enemy ships. This holds true in ch. 2 and is probably one way they manage to keep up the insane level mecha quality. Fighters get a lot more attention this Chapter, with a lot of detail about how they are able to launch quickly, etc (as partly shown in the trailer). And yes, theres more screen time for the female characters too, especially Yamamoto and the nurse :-)

And if not, can you at least give us, non japanese speakers, a lowdown of what all that talk about micro black holes in the WMG is all about? It would be greatly apreciated. You do realize that the regular edition of the bluray comes out in only a little over 3 weeks, right? Not really all that long to wait until everyone can see it, hence I didnt see the point of going into much more detail. I can. however, provide the following if its of any help. Be warned, this is nothing BUT spoilers. So, following the end of chapter 1 ( a short story digest is provided at the beginning of chapter 2) the yamato leaves earth orbit and heads towards Iscandar. They pass by the Kirishima, with Hijikata on board - as they leave earth - a nice new touch, imo). It's explained to the crew that the only way to make the trip within the year earth has left is to try a warp. This has never been done by a human ship before and involves basically making mini-black hole to shunt the ship through time/space. So they warp and...things go wrong. the yamato pops out at Jupiter ... too close to Jupiter since they are immediately caught in its gravity well. After scanning the planet they detect a floating continent that is a gamillas base and manage to crash land on it. The base is a small one and only has 4 ships, but figures that these are enough to take out a human ship. Oh boy are they ever wrong. After dispatching the gamilas ships, the Yamato takes off but then Okita decides now is as good a time as any to test the wave motion gun. It destroys the entire floating continent (which is approx the size of Australia) leaving a gaping hole not unlike a second red spot on Jupiters surface. (oh and for anyone complaining about the fact that they still use goggles when firing the wave motion gun, they ALSO have a viewscreen polarizer/dimmer as well. The goggles are an extra precaution. Not long after escaping Jupiter, its discovered that firing the Wave Motion gun has caused part of the engine to overheat and engine parts are literally melting.Around this time a human distress beacon is picked up from a nearby moon (planet/ dont remember sorry). Some of the crew want to check for survivors, while others want to continue on to Iscandar as fast as possible. Fortunately it turns out that the moon in question also has an element present that is needed to fix the engine. The yamato lands and Yuki/Kodai/useless other female whose name I have forgotten go to check out the distress beacon. It turns out to be coming from the wreckage of a human ship. While checking it out they are attacked by gamillas androids who have been sent to catch a human sample. the yamato is pinned down by a tank attack to distract it from Kodai's distress call. The Yamato is low and vulnerable and cannot launch fighters from the rear bay so Yamamoto steals a fighter and takes off via catapault - she wipes out the tanks and saves Kodai - who then realizes that the wreckage is the Yukikaze, his brothers ship (although his brothers body is nowhere to be found). And yes, Yamamoto rocks. She requests a transfer to the black tiger squadron, which Kodai approves. In the meantime theres some debate about whether to bypass Pluto or attack the gamillas base there. Okita is undecided until they realise that Pluto is the origin point of the radioactive planet bombs. Surrounded by asteroids, the hidden gamillas base uses a series of satellites to reflect a lazer at a any chosen asteroid at just the right angle to ignite it and send it tearing towards earth. They fire one at the Yamato and when Okita realises the truth of where the asteroids are coming from he decides to take out the Pluto base. At least this way there will be no further damage to earth. In other words...ITS ON!!!!! But.... with Pluto covered by ice, Okita sends out almost every fighter to locate the gamillas base....however....gamillas uses the reflective satellite lazer to inflict heavy damage on the Yamato. With no choice but to crash land and suffering damage from subsequent lazer attacks, the Yamato is pounded into the ice until it sinks below it. Kodai and co eventually find the hidden base and disable its cloaking shield, allowing the Yamato to resurface and hit it with some devastating artillery strikes. With the Pluto base destroyed, the Yamato now finds itself at the edge of the galaxy, ready to take its first real step towards the unknown and Iscandar... (theres some subplots with a female character, hints about Yuki's strange resemblance to certain other character, some power politics within Gamillas - including Dessler - as well, interwoven in the above). Please excuse spelling and grammar - had to pound the above out from memory while eating lunch. Edited July 3, 2012 by Tochiro

I do understand that the Blu-Ray is coming out in about 3 weeks but... the Blu-Ray is only coming out in 3 weeks. XD I hunger for detail. The fact the next one only comes out in November is gnawing me to the core. XD I thank you for the details you provided. I especially like that the Reflex Gun has an actual purpose. I always found it odd that they had such an overkill weapon at Pluto, given that the Gamilas was (and still is in this remake) vastly superior to the UNCF. This way the RG is basically a tool for launching the planet bombs (a process never explained in the original) wich, due to its power is used to atempt and stop the Yamato. Nice. As for the goggles...they're just cool. It's just like the WMG trigger. Pressing a button on the weapons console - week; having a pistol looking thing rise from said console and use it to fire the WMG - cool. And it's the type of thing you don't mind because it's one of those pillars of what Yamato is.
Kyp Durron
It's interesting to note that since the Yamato is now 333 meters, the 1/500 Yamato that is actually the 2199 version isn't really 1/500. That scale was assuming the Yamato is 265 meters. But if it's actually the 2199 version, then being 333 meters makes the scale more around 1/628. And what of the Bandai GX-57 Yamato? Since the Yamato's size was changed to 333 meters to truly accommodate the fighters it's supposed to be carrying, then the GX 57's scale comes out to 1/771. Taito's Yamato 2220 version, was 1/590, but with the new size of 333 meters, it's now 1/740. Which is cool, because that puts both the GX-57 and the Yamato 2220 basically in scale with my DST Wrath of Khan Enterprise which is 1/750: And the GX-57 with the Enterprise, and a communicator thrown in..for fun. -Kyp

renegadeleader1
HOT!! Hopefully an Over-Dard influenced version of Yuki will soon follow... Is Over-Dard an artist, sculptor, or just a term for a figure with overly large breasts and flared hips ala Masaki Mizuhara and Hiroki Yagami? I've seen the term before and own at least one figure that was refered to as "over-dard" a bunnygirl named Rion, but I only have a vague idea of what it means. Dobber
I would really like to know what is going on with the 1/1000 scale models seen here: http://www.starblazers.com/comics.php?%20prefix=HJJuly2012&chapter=HJJuly2012&page=1 . Looks like they are showing a plastic prototype of the Kirishima, and possibly a 2 pack for the Murasame cruiser and Yukikaze destroyer? I want I want I want! Any translations?? I also like how they described the Cosmo Zero......."The Cosmo Zero is a young Samurai, and the Cosmo Falcon is an armored knight of the West." ..................I got that feeling as well. I like how the UNCN/CF is a world wide organization with areas of operations, and the Yamato is part of the Far East area. Instead of "the world is run by the U.S, China, Japan... ect." also that each area contributes in it's own way, Yamato being built by the far east area and I get the feeling the Zero is another example, while the Falcons, and maybe later the Tiger II's, have a more western look but are supplied to which ever fleet/ Force as needed since we are one big organization. Thanks for the update! Chris Edited July 6, 2012 by Dobber

Tochiro
Best thing I heard at the Yamato 2199 panel I went to tonight - Macross/Yamato 2199 scenario writer Onogi and Y2199 General Director Izubuchi. When Onogi jokingly complained about how difficult Izubuchi is to work with, Izubuchi claimed indignantly 'Oh comeon! I've gotta be better to work with than Kawamori, right?'
