VF5SS Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/books/magurodesu2.jpg did Tommy Yune totally ripoff this doujin picture of Hikaru in the cockpit
Jasonc Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 http://www.macrosswo...magurodesu2.jpg did Tommy Yune totally ripoff this doujin picture of Hikaru in the cockpit I don't even know the artwork Tommy did that you're referring to.
VF5SS Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Maybe it was someone else Could be more fanart they pass off as legit promotional work
Jasonc Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 That doujin doesn't look like Tommy's art at all. If it was his, the clothes would look painted on, and he'd look like he's hopped up on steroids.

Jasonc Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Then I would say yes, if that's the art in question.
waters7 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 This is no Tommy Yune art IIRC the first time I saw this picture was in the Robotech 10th anniversary soundtrack.
anime52k8 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Then I would say yes, if that's the art in question. I have no idea where this art came from. I found it via a google search on an archived Geocities site.
VF5SS Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Still totally copied from an old doujin. Good job.
j_wong00 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) You're using the word "try" in the loosest possible sense, right? I figured that goes without saying...Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending them in any stretch of the imagination, but it may be a reason why they are so gun-shy about going in total different directions. Edited February 2, 2012 by j_wong00
EXO Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Meh, who knows which came first... the valkyrie illustration is lineart and someone slapped Hikaru on top and colored ... but definitely not Yune... unless he use to draw better back then. I figured that goes without saying...Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending them in any stretch of the imagination, but it may be a reason why they are so gun-shy about going in total different directions. it's not that they're gun shy... it's that they are directionless.
Jasonc Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I figured it wasn't Yune art. Nevertheless, it does apear to be copied, one direction or another. I like the pic in the doujin. Don't care much for the colored one.
Lobizon Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) This is no Tommy Yune art IIRC the first time I saw this picture was in the Robotech 10th anniversary soundtrack. Yeah, that picture was at Robotech: Perfect Soundtrack Album (10th Anniversary Edition) released in 1996 by Streamline Pictures. Edited February 2, 2012 by Lobizon
waters7 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Yeah, that picture was at Robotech: Perfect Soundtrack Album (10th Anniversary Edition) released in 1996 by Streamline Pictures. Yes, it is in the booklet that came in the soundtrack but looking thru my Macross and Robotech VHS tapes I realized that this same picture was used for the cover of Robotech Perfect Collection (Macross) Vol 3 which was released by Streamline Pictures in 1994. I also went thru some of my Macross books and was unable to find if this image was originally produced by the Studio Nue/Artland staff. Maybe it was something that was commissioned by Carl during the time that he was with Streamline Pictures. Since Tom Bateman worked in the production of the 10th anniversary CD, maybe he can shed some light as to who the author is...

Also a reasonable explanation.
akim Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Original artwork comes from Macross... You can find it in Mokman's gallery (a real beautiful masterpiece): http://mokman.rubber...ID=605558&Pass= from Mokman gallery rubberslug http://mokman.rubber...p?ItemID=228637
Einherjar Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I thought the lack of chunky mechanical designs and Superman-esque character proportions (aka just good enough for comic books) should've made that obvious.
EXO Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Not Hikaru, though... they didn't even draw the rest of his body and arm behind the HUD glass.

Its funny thou, when I have conversations with my co-workers about cartoons from the 80's, Robotech always seem to be absent from that conversation.

No one I've encountered in my adult life, aside from the net and comic shops, has ever heard of Robotech.
mrhillz Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 No one I've encountered in my adult life, aside from the net and comic shops, has ever heard of Robotech. Same here, and anime conventions too, where most have never seen Robotech, but have heard of it, and even fewer have really heard of Macross- thanks HG.

Jasonc Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 That's not Harmony Gold, that's just Yui. Yes, and for what reason, nobody knows. You'd think she'd put the site up in Engrish at least, since if there's anybody in Japan that really cares about Robotech, it's the soldiers stationed there.
Old_Nash Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I want to see the Robotech The Movie with Tobey "jerry" Maguire (That's Nonsense XD)
blackconvoy_D01 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 (edited) I want to see the Robotech The Movie with Tobey "jerry" Maguire (That's Nonsense XD) That has seemed to have totally fallen through the cracks according to IMDB (2013?). Here's what I wonder, if RT:LLA fails, will HG put RT into a dormant state? Or will it be propped up as gangbusters, and we'll get more luggage tags? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1103173/ -Now looking at 2016... wow Edited February 10, 2012 by blackconvoy_D01
