Major Focker Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Just received this in the mail: http://www.hlj.com/product/HBJ60276 At the time I pre-ordered it, there was only the cover and no description. I thought it was an artbook in the vein of the VF Masterfiles but with concept sketches and illustrations/artwork, and of course not covering just the VF's. It turned out to be a modelling book showcasing professional builds of the various MF kits released. It's not a bad book by any means, just not what I was expecting. The models shown were expectedly well-made and detailed, and there are pics of the build up and I imagine the text probably describes various techniques/tips. Highlights include: - Alto's beat up VF (see the HLJ link). This has already been featured in another book or magazine release. Just can't remember from where - Super-detailed MacQ scratchbuild in more realistic paintjob (again see the HLJ link) - Scratchbuilt VF-27 with beam effect. Looks illuminated, but there doesn't seem to be any mention of LEDs or build up pics of the gun - Detailed-up Yamato VB-6 - YF-29 in military grey There's a teaser for Vol.2 which apparently will cover earlier Macross licenses. It shows Hikaru's VF-1 in that iconic Bodolza assassination pose. Curious to see if the build up pics will show how the shoulders and chest were modified to be able to manage that pose. Quote
Graham Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Got this when it first came out. It's mostly just reprints of Hobby Japan articles, so if you buy Hobby Japan regulaly, chances are your've seen all this before. Still nice to have compiled in one book though. Graham Quote
