Keith Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 The precedent for Fold Faults existing is Misa's dialogue when she gets captured with Hikaru & co. She mentions the time difference between they & everyone onboard the Macross. This with current info implies foreknowledge of the existence of Fold Faults. Quote

Actually the official recognition of Fold Faults in-universe was the 117th Research Fleet studying the Vajra. Zentradi being not scientists treated it as just an anomaly. Hence a relatively recent discovery. Quote

Also explains why it took the Bodolza fleet several days to get to Earth and the heavy turbulence Diamond Force had using the fold boosters. Edited October 28, 2011 by Keith Quote
TehPW Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 isnt the issue time displacement too (ref: AIM For The Top!) travelling in Fold Space consumes more/or less? time than in real time? Quote
Keith Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 isnt the issue time displacement too (ref: AIM For The Top!) travelling in Fold Space consumes more/or less? time than in real time? Since fold isn't FTL travel, it doesn't have the relativity problems like in Gunbuster. Disruption due to faults however would explain it. Quote
Reïvaj Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Macross 7 - Ep.14 - 02:17: Mayor Milia: Have you been able to contact Battle 7? Voice: Not at all. We are trying to determinate our coordinates but there's a disturbance in space that's giving us trouble. Quote
frothymug Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Complete conjecture as to whether or not it's a fold fault. I'm sure the writers were alluding to something caused maybe by the Protodeviln... but then again, it was probably just a plot device to quickly and easily explain away the reason they can't contact the main fleet. Well yeah...it's clear that the creators didn't come up with the idea of Fold Faults until Frontier, but it's just as clear that they can be retroactively applied to previous Macross shows as though they were there all along, but humanity didn't know about them. EDIT: forgot the "n't." Edited October 31, 2011 by Gubaba Quote

It *might* have been like the energy conversion armour - something that Kawamori-san had in mind from the get go, but wasn't able to work into SDFM. On the other hand, it probably was something created for MF to explain away all the space-fold delays that have appeared in previous series to improve consistency between the various productions (the ol' "we should do an episode explaining the Klingon make-up change fold delays thing").
