VF5SS Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 So I was chatting about VF-0As when I noticed this weird discrepancy. Here's a VF-0A. Here's the head. Notice the head is completely different. So this lead me to MW's own magazine archive where I found this Note the small insert artwork of the VF-0A which is different from the main art. Then I went to the DVD inserts which shows this Which is clearly a big version of that small insert of early VF-0A art. So uh, what happened to the final VF-0A head lineart? Does it exist? madness Quote
Xx-SKULL-ONE-xX Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Very interesting, The line art must exist somewhere. Where can I find the MW magazine archives? Quote
regult Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 (edited) the kanji in the small insert that shows a different design is titled "preliminary sketch" That head was almost completely recycled with the VF-25G! Edited August 26, 2011 by regult Quote
VF5SS Posted August 26, 2011 Author Posted August 26, 2011 Where can I find the MW magazine archives? on the main page where it says magazines That head was almost completely recycled with the VF-25G! they're only superficially similar. the VF-25 also have the DYRL VF-1A's "Go this way" stripe. nightmareB4macross Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 The lineart of the head shown is from the VF-0D. As Kanji, said it is probably preliminary art work, then that would mean the head found it's way to the two-seater Phoenix. While the VF-0A variant recieved a newly developed head we already accustomed to. Quote
VF5SS Posted August 26, 2011 Author Posted August 26, 2011 No the VF-0D head looks like this which is not that preliminary head Quote
regult Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 ok, maybe "completely" is a bit of an exaggeration, but "superficial" is a big understatement. Single laser and monoeye aside, the contours (how the "face" wraps around the "eye"), the back of the head (especially the lower back), the vents, all look quite similar in both designs. Of course it's not the same head, but it's definitely a closer relative than let's say that of the VE-1 and the VF-27. Quote
sketchley Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 So I was chatting about VF-0As when I noticed this weird discrepancy. Nice find. One of those obvious things that has been staring you in the face all along. >.< So uh, what happened to the final VF-0A head lineart? Does it exist? Macross Chronicle uses the official/final head lineart - BUT it's only the previously seen battroid picture cropped to show just the head. Perhaps no lineart exists as it might have been something came up at the spur of the moment during CG modelling? Quote
nightmareB4macross Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Since it's been established that it's not the VF-0D. Could it be the VF-0B. I've looked for references to the head variant, but haven't found anything. Hopefully, someone come find the answer. Quote
VF5SS Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 Looking at pictures of the VF-0B kits seems to show that is has the same head as the VF-0D. Also man, why did Hasegawa make their VF-0D head so huge. It's really out of proportion. Quote
Hikuro Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Well let's take into the fact that the VF-0 in the design works looks very concept sketch like, which I think Kawamori's famous for making changes for production standards. I'm sure he had a lot of great mechanical ideas seeing how this was going to be a CG series but a lot in the end gets standardized instead so you got to cut some things out. More moving parts on a CG animation involves more time and more money. The VF-0 to me was an awesome design, a great merge between aerodynamics and robotics that seemed to get shafted in the end when you look at something say the VF-25 which craves anime magic to me. VF5SS Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 Quickly you fools! Brrrrrrring me the head of the VF-0A! Quote
