Marzan Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Discotek media just announced via their facebook page that they picked up diebuster(gunbuster 2) for a complete series sub only release for most likely 29.95. DVD or BD? Quote
renegadeleader1 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 DVD or BD? Didn't say. Discotek is still a small company and doing BD's is expensive for them, but they said they would do it for the right title. If they aquire gunbuster too it might be BD time. Quote
Keith Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) I already have the domestic Honneamise release, and the recent Japanese Blu Ray set. But if the ever put out a subbed domestic BD, I'd totally support that. Also, odd that they licensed Diebuster without Gunbuster. Edited January 11, 2013 by Keith Quote
sketchley Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Someone was asking about the "science lessons" that came with AftT in another thread, and as the ultimate AftT book I picked up last week has a list of every single video released... the following might be helpful for the person wanting that info, and others: right side: the 4 science lesson videos that came with the original release: 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th times. the 2 science lesson videos that came with the 1994 LD box set: 4th+1 & last times. left side: the 2 science lesson videos that came with the 2012 Blu-ray box: New 1st "orbital elevator and orbital ropeway" and New 2nd "the core of the galaxy and black holes". the 3 short films released in 2000 and 2001: "Harumi and Yumiko's good morning Oki-jo!", "AD 2032.7.23 Cosmic battle space orbit of Halley's commet" and "Sizzler Project". These are the 3 science lesson videos that came with Diebuster. All the publications up to the time of printing (2012.12.17). It even includes the "Aim for the Top! picture contents collection" due to be printed in 2013.01. Quote
Anavel Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Is that this book? What are your thoughts on it? Quote
areaseven Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Finally got my SRC Gunbuster. Review coming up later this week. Quote
sketchley Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Is that this book? What are your thoughts on it? Apologies, missed this the first time around. Yes, it is that book. My thoughts on it were: Mini review: if you like Aim for the Top, THIS is the book to get. Insert a bunch of superlatives and praise of your choosing about it. The only negatives of the book are that the the line-art is usually shrunk so that there are many different pieces on a single page - some of those pieces deserving half to full page treatment; and that comparing the 2 series side by side reinforces my view that Gunbuster is pretty much all substance, with style on top, and Diebuster is almost exclusively style, with little in the way of substance. areaseven Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) Super Robot Chogokin Gunbuster (スーパーロボット超合金 ガンバスター) Bandai, 2013 Made in China Contents Gunbuster figure Hands (x5)Buster Collider Arm Parts (x2)Buster Collider Front Leg Parts (x2)Buster Collider Rear Leg Parts (x2)Super Inazuma Kick Spiked Tread (x4)Buster Home Run (x2)Skeletal ChestDegeneracy Generator with CordTamashii Stage Attachment PegCrossover Joint Attachment Peg For the past decade, there have been several different toy representations of Gunbuster. And now, for those who can't afford the ultra-pricey Soul of Chogokin figure or are not impressed by the Revoltech figure, here's the toy that slots neatly between the two. The Super Robot Chogokin Gunbuster may lack the combination feature of the SOC and Revoltech toys, but it makes up for it in spades with its unbelievable amount of poseability - at least 36 points of articulation! The figure comes with an array of accessories that enable you to re-create scenes from the anime, such as the Double Buster Collider, Super Inazuma Kick and the degeneracy generator sacrifice scene from episode 6. In addition, the figure has two units of the Buster Home Run, Gunbuster's baseball bat from the radio drama portion of the Victor Manga Golden Special soundtrack. A special peg lets you attach the figure to a Tamashii Stage display stand (Act.5 for Mechanics is recommended due to the weight of the diecast parts). Also, the figure's new Crossover Joint system enables the figure to easily swap parts with Gurren Lagann without compromising poseability. As far as build quality goes, this figure is very solid. Sure, there are some paint imperfections, but the metallic flake shine on the plastic panels makes the figure look more substantial than the Revoltech version. Because of the amount of ball joints, getting the right pose takes a little patience, but once you get everything lined up, it just looks perfect. The amount of accessories may be spartan, but a lot more will be available in the upcoming Tamashii Web exclusive "Hard Work and Guts" Armament Set, which includes the Buster Shield, Buster Missiles, Buster Tomahawk and effects parts. Needless to say, this is undoubtedly one of the best offerings in Bandai's Super Robot Chogokin line. A must-have for any mecha toy collector. renegadeleader1 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I've got a historical/production question for anbody that knows a lot about Gunbuster. How much was Studio Fantasia(Project A-ko, AIKa, etc) involved in Gunbuster's production? I see a lot of places refer to it as a co-production, but it seems Gainax gets all the glory for it. Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Gainax should make some figures of the Space Terrible Monster Crowd, both Gunbuster and Diebuster versions, they'd at least make good models. Hell, I'd be interested if they made plushies of the bug types. Quote
