Tober Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 How about a song about playing video games that isn't about playing video games? Quote
taksraven Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 (edited) How about a song about playing video games that isn't about playing video games? Not bad. How about what is, quite possibly, the first song about video/computer games ever. (This is '79, if anybody knows an earlier one, please let me know.....) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-m8IOD-wk9g Edited August 27, 2011 by taksraven Quote
taksraven Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Did 80's Aussie pub rock ever get better than H&C? INXS, Oils, The Church, Badseeds, Died Pretty, Triffids, Go-Bees, Cold Chisel... AC/DC were probably doing stadiums by then. Not sure anything can top Mark with his head in a fridge screaming "YOU DON'T MAKE ME FEEL...." at the top of his lungs on stage. Nah, not even his bro's three piece. Yeah, I think that H&C were quite possible *the* best of the era. They had that great rock sound without the yobbiness that annoys me about a lot of other bands from the era. (sorry Chisel fans) Here is some more H&C. Quote
taksraven Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Did someone say Aussie music? I'll set ya straight A7 old mate. This is better Aussie stuff from the same era..... Quote

(This is '79, if anybody knows an earlier one, please let me know.....) Touche, Mr. Raven. I remember when that was released. Countdown & Molly... ------------- 'Space Invaders' by Player One may predate 'Computer Games', YouTube doesn't think so though. Definitely late 79 or early 80. Have to work today so can't actually research it. Yeah, have to agree about Cold Chisel. I do like a few of their songs tho. Fave H&C is probably Talking to a Stranger. The only studio album of theirs that I owned was Ghost Nation tho, also had the best of. Quote
taksraven Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Nah, I found much better Aussie music: Good call. On the Aboriginal Australian side of music, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu has been blowing everybody away with his singing talent. Sings in the Yolngu language and this is one of his best songs..... taksraven Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Time for some real music. YEAHHHHH!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzDUcPfZoJ4 Quote

1st Border Red Devil Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 (edited) Always loved this song, eventhough it came out a few years before I was born.... Gubaba knows my feelings on this song (or least he should remember). Ah, to be a teenager again... Edited September 4, 2011 by 1st Border Red Devil Quote

Jefuemon Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 If you're gonna play Manowar, you gotta play MANOWAR, not an AMV http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLgporKLnpA And yes, I and my friends looked just like those guys (the actors, not the band) back when this first came out. Quote

Marzan Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I'm sure you will thrilled to know that none other than William Shatner will cover this song in his upcoming album "Searching for Major Tom". Other classics to be included are Bohemian Rhapsody, Space Oddity and Iron Man. http://williamshatne...rticle419.phtml http://music-mix.ew....lbum-major-tom/ I cannot wait to get my hands on what will surely be the musical highlight of the year. 1st Border Red Devil Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 This one popped up for me during a YouTube search. Fairly enjoyable rendition of Jan Hammer's Crockett's Theme by Vangelis. Quote
kanedaestes Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Have you heard anything from the new Cobra Starship? I like it overall, but it's my least favorite. I haven't heard it yet, but i will within the next few days. I remember seeing them open a few years ago on the Taste of Chaos Tour for 30 Seconds To Mars. They were great, and this is when their first album had just been released. Quote
mikeszekely Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 and this is when their first album had just been released. Well, I still like their first one the best. But Hot Mess was really good too. Quote
