gnollman Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 Well, it finally happened. My early release PS2 has finally crapped out on me. And after I just bought FFX-2.... Here's the deal. It won't play PS2 games. It'll still play audio CDs, and original PS1 games, but it won't play PS2 games or DVDs anymore. I just get a "Disc Read Error" when I put them in. Every so often, (very rarely) it will actually boot the game. Anyone else had this problem? It sounds like the laser lens is either dirty (can't resolve the finer compression of DVD software) or that the lasers are out of alignment (again, can't resolve). I'm gonna buy a lens cleaner this weekend to have a peek. If that doesn't work, I'm thinking of sending it to Sony to fix. Anyone have any experience with this?
NERV Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 yea id try the disc cleaner, has anything happened recently that cudve done internal damage? like dropped or kicked or something?
nemesis120 Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 disc read errors (supposedly) are one of the hardest things to fix. good luck with it though.
Opus Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 Maybe this helps? http://www.techtv.com/xplay/features/story...3516150,00.html
Druna Skass Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 Hmm I had the opposite happen on me when it went kaput last year. Wouldn't play PS1 games but had no trouble with DVDs and PS2 games. Hope the PS3 has a longer life span...
VF-19 Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 Read up on the Disk Read Error FAQs at Gamefaqs.com under PS2 Hardware FAQ. You may be able to get it fixed for free (and perhaps shipping too).
gnollman Posted November 29, 2003 Author Posted November 29, 2003 Beautiful.... I'll be calling Sony on Sunday. You guys are an absolute fountain of knowledge....
