Suddenly so many writers!

Checked out your chapter, bamboo. A first person story could be interesting, especially if the main character is interesting. We don't know much about Galaxy, so there's certainly room to explore here.

Meanwhile, I'm 16 chapters into frothymug's fic, and still going.

Hi guys,

I'm writing a fanfiction story it's mini-chapters whenever I have time I'll add more here:

http://fav.me/d4d3ic9

Just follow the link above, it's a very safe location, deviantart.

Cheers.

This is kind of what I was implying when I asked about the motivation behind your CG models in another thread.

I'll read it and Che's Ch.4 when I get a chance. Still trying to get all of this damn homework done...

:D Yeah, I write loads of macross stuff but never feel I have time to do what I really wanted. The coolest would be a comic strip 3D, I tried that but was to demanding time wise. That's the boring part of geting old, you lose time for projects at home.

If you like it let me know :)

Good news! I managed to clear up my busy schedule for some quality reading time. ;)

If anyone hasn't checked it out, Che's story is worth a read. It's not terribly long, but it gets to the point with appropriate expediency. If you have 30 minutes to spare, I suggest spending it wisely by reading it.

It's not a bad read but could use an editor in several spots.

PM me, say more. I actually have caught a few typos and stuff, but if you're talking about bigger issues, I'd love to know what struck you.

Still looking for some feedback. Any readers out there willing to give it a shot. The arc is complete, now:

Thought I would like to listen to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darktown_Strutters'_Ball while reading this but Chapter 5's great. :) And I'm thinking a lot more... about the likes of B.B. King and Aretha Franklin. Nothing's better than flashin' a Zentran with some good soul music.

No clue if I posted this or not (I can honestly not remember). If I did, disregard. If not, here's some artwork based on my fic. Notice the SDF-1 in the background (And yes, that's the SDF-1, not the SDF-4, since in my fic, it DOES actually end back up on Earth).

Yeah, you did post this pic... and a version of it with the naked chick blurred out as an apparition. Are you talking about the SDFN-4? The Global?

Got to watch the new movie today. One thing I will say is that someone on the writing staff must have been reading my fanfic when they came up with some story elements in the movie. Oh, who am I kidding... it's just a coincidence. Still, I was screaming a bit on the inside. ;) Fortunately, I think my planned ending is safe from being like the movie's ending. All these months and I kept hoping that they wouldn't turn out to be the same.

During research for the MF fic, I've been playing much of The Supremes while reading up on anything about the AKB girls (the AKB49 manga is a very good place to start, to appreciate how things work out from behind the scenes), and then I recalled episodes of China Beach and Tour of Duty, and got a few pretty good ideas (plot bunnies) from there. Damn, I could imagine the OP would look like as I'm playing it in my head.

I read this a couple days ago but forgot to give feedback. I enjoyed it a lot. I have a thing for side stories and Space War I has so many opportunities for showing the same events from different perspectives. Actually all of Macross does. I think you did a good job in capturing how people all around the world must have felt on the fateful day of Booby Trap: confused and scared.

As a one shot it's a very good read. I'd be interested to see what else you do, whether it follows the same characters or not.

I think I'll read it again and give you a review on ff.net sometime soon.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm thinking about posting a revised version of Do You Remember Motown, but I'm also getting ready to maybe take a stab at another story, this time a little closer to the beaten path...

Starscream, it's funny you should post that pic of Sheryl in that outfit considering one of her outfits in the second Macross Frontier movie.

Also, this is a part of a proposal I'm writing for a new RPG over on the MechaTalk forums.

Macross: The 106th Fleet

Firstly, upon further reflection, I think this would work great as a players vs. GM game. In fact I would prefer it this way but I can work with the other way.

It is the year 2051. The 106th Autonomous Fleet responds to a distress call from the Macross 19 colonization fleet, currently in the newly-discovered Alterra system. Their escort armada has been decimated by rogue Zentradi (possibly Meltrandi as well) and they need assistance in case they are attacked again as they attempt to settle the Alterra system and make first contact with its inhabitants.

The 106th fleet itself is somewhat of a ragtag collection. Because of the nature of its mission, the ships that comprise the fleet are often far past their scheduled maintenance dates. They have to take what they can get, so you'll see a couple of ARMD-class carriers flying around, as well as a few Oberth-class frigates (heavily modified and somewhat clunky), as well as newer ships like Guantanamo-class stealth carriers and Uraga-class Escort Battle Carriers and a couple of the brand new stealth cruisers. It is led by the venerable SDFN-10 Prometheus, one of the twelve mass-produced Macross-class ships that were built directly after Space War I (SDF Macross and DYRL). It was built all the way back in 2025 but still packs a mean punch, especially with its Main Cannon/Macross Cannon. It is the flagship of the fleet and carries about 400 Valkyries, Destroids and Ghosts altogether. Her crew is very proud of her as a carrier of the Macross legacy and she is captained by the leader of the fleet, Admiral George Armstrong.

This alone is not what makes the 106th unusual but it is also the Zentradi and Meltrandi battleships that are part of the fleet. The 106th includes several Thurvel-Salan Class and Queadol-Magdomilla Class battleships and Quiltra-Quelamitz Class gunboats led by a Nupetiet-Vergnitzs Class Fleet Command Battleship, captained by Colonel Kortai. The Meltrandi ships include several gunboats, destroyers, cruisers and battleships led by one of the signature flagship-class Meltran command ships. The Meltran portion of the fleet is under the command of Colonel Areea (are-ee-ah).

The Zentradi of the fleet are pleasant enough in their own right but are made up of some of the more war-like Zentradi that don't get completely "culture-shocked." That doesn't mean that they're uncontrollable, on the contrary, Colonel Kortai expects the best out of his men.

The Meltrandi of the fleet are a portion of the Chlore Fleet that the Macross 7 ran into more than five years ago. They're a lot more affable than their Zentradi counterparts but don't get them started on Fire Bomber or Basara Nekki unless you want to endure a lot of fangirl gushing and squealing. Note: Unlike the rest of the galaxy, most of the Zentradi and Meltrandi in the fleet are full-size so keep out from under their feet please. icon_smile.gif

Also due to the roaming nature of their mission and the Prometheus having the only factories, the 106th occasionally has to beg, borrow and cannibalize fighters and mechs for its pilots. Often you'll see fleet patrols made up of VF-4G Lightning III's, VA-3 Invaders, VF-5000B Star Mirages, VF-9 Cutlass's, VF-11 Thunderbolts, and VF-14 Vampires, as well as the latest and greatest VF-17 Nightmares, VF-19 Excaliburs and VF-22 Sturmvogels, though these last three types of Valkyries are reserved for the fleet's elite pilots. There's even a squadron in the fleet, Ragnarok Squadron, that operates some heavily customized VF-1 Strike Valkyries. The 106th also maintains a number of Destroids because in the words of Admiral Armstrong, "Everyone is so busy looking for those pesky Valkyries and Zentradi power armors in the sky that when those Destroids sneak up on 'em and cut 'em to ribbons it's pretty damn hilarious actually. Although a Monster can't 'sneak' worth a damn. Gotta be careful with those." The 106th also fields Glaugs, Fighter Pods, Nousjadeul-Ger and Quedluun-Rau power armors and the "New" Battle Suit

All total, the 106th Fleet only numbers 100 ships but they're fierce fighters all. Cross them at your own peril.

First contact with its inhabitants? You mean some indigenous civilization?

Everything sounds good. Is this going to stay strictly as some kind of RPG or are you developing this into a story to write?

@Banshee: the whole unusual outfit kind of reminds me as if coming from a great classic war TV show (had experience with Dirty Dozen and ol' Combat, although I've yet to see Baa Baa Black Sheep and Hogan's Heroes), especially some potentially colorful characters. Sounds very promising! :)

Dammit, I haven't updated in awhile and I've been sitting on a completed chapter for weeks. I am trying out something new, so I want to make sure I get it at least reasonably right before I put it up. The semester is coming to an end, so really all that's left is just preparing for finals next week. However, I've been spending my free time in the company of a very interesting lady... Just someone else to indoctrinate with the wonder that is Macross. That way, she'll know exactly why I spend so much time obsessing over this stuff and writing my own fanfiction.

I'll see what I can do this week. I have somehomework tonight, but very little to look forward to for the rest of the week.

Pondering upon Macross once again and after watching the second Frontier movie I came to the realization that the true villians of the story were essentially humans. So I'm going back to the drawing board for my villains for Macross Delta. But that's not too bad as I think I'm going to concentrate on finishing Odyssey first. In fact I'll definitely finish that one first.

I also bring to you this little nugget of fanfiction I found on Deviant Art, called Macross 2012-Insurrection. Not the greatest story ever but the writer seems to know most of his lore. What do you think?

After much ado, Chapter 50 of my "United We Stand" is finally up. Much thanks to Chillyche for his valuable writing input!

I've also been helping a fellow author work on his story, F2: Wings of the Fairy. He's got some talent as a storyteller, so I'd recommend you guys give his story a look.

Other than that, this thread has been very quiet. I'm curious to know what everyone's been up to lately.

I wouldn't feel too bad about. Frankly, as much as there was cool animation, music, and plenty of winks at fans in the Frontier movies (particularly the second one), the story was kind of a train wreck. There were a couple of nice character moments, but all in all... not the best bit of Macross storytelling. In fact, I think that if one had watched those movies without watching the series, it would barely make any sense, nor would there be much of a point to what did. Don't get me wrong, those concerts were cool, and the dogfights were sweet, and Alto and Ranka and Sheryl all seemed to act a little more mature here and there, but as far plot, and as far as story beats, it was a mess. I think this thing should get relegated to Macross II's alternate dimension. Or become an in-universe work of fiction.

Which leads me to this point: it wouldn't be derivative if you made another story where humans were the antagonists.

What I'd personally like to see is something more along the lines of a Miyazaki antagonist. That is, somebody who opposes the protagonists, and presents a very real threat, but who has a well-reasoned, and legitimate point of view. Bad guys that want to rule the universe are corny and simplistic usually. And actually, I felt like Frontier (in both versions) couldn't decide how to handle its antagonists. If Grace O'Connor and the Galaxy Hivemind truly BELIEVE that the future of humanity is as a collective consciousness, and it's not about "enslaving others to become their drones" then they're an interesting antagonist with a full-blown philosophy. If we take it a step further, and the Galaxy hivemind is ON to something, then we have a really interesting antagonist.

Take for instance, the 1996 film "The Rock". The primary antagonist, General Francis X. Hummel, as played masterfully by Ed Harris, is a sympathetic character with a cause you want to see succeed. His methods are problematic, but his ultimate goal is something you can pretty much get behind. This is one of the things that elevates that movie above its peers. The shower room ambush then becomes tragic, because up until that point, it was possible that things could have been defused and everybody might have gone home happy.

If you were to craft a story where humans -- regular, every day humans, not megalomaniacs or lunatics or sociopaths -- were on the opposing side of humans -- regular every day humans -- then you could tell a story that not only made for Valk on Valk action, but could be very poignant. Remember, the best sci-fi shows us something about ourselves as humans now. That's my two cents worth.

I already linked Wings of the Fairy ;) FIRST!

Anyway, the author messaged me asking about whether or not he should keep going. It seems that he feels that he's not getting enough traffic nor reviews. I had to explain to him that the MacF section of FF.net is not heavily traveled, so he shouldn't take it personally. However, if we can put up a few good independent stories that are updated regularly, I'm sure we can improve readership for everyone involved there. That being said, send some nice words his way. I'm sure he'll appreciate it!

And it looks like Lancel has updated Wings of the Fairy!!

And Frothy, I read chapter 50 of United We Stand. I was curious, that scene in the restaurant, was that commentary? Based on a personal experience maybe?

Kinda... Not in that kind of detail, but I run into people like that all of the time. You'll find the point that I'm getting at fairly soon. I plan on finishing 51 this weekend and posting it, as the new semester starts on Tuesday. I'm about halfway done with it right now.
