I got banned everywhere for saying that Seed sucked barrels of donkey balls. Probably the worst Gundam ever, that and age brrrrr Quote

Dangard Ace Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Just finished Gundam Seed. Watched it cause of Build Fighters use of Strike. Seed "borrowed"(stole) practically everything from UC and made it suck. Jesus Kira Yamato. Not sure if I want to waste my time with Destiny. Quote

Don't bother, if you didn't like Seed you will hate Destiny. Seed was definitely a mediocre re telling of the original Gundam... Quote

Marzan Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 For anyone still watching Samurai Flamenco despite the the strange turn of events of the past weeks, here's a new character from the official website. May I point your attention to the character description to what is surely one of the most unfortunate L/R mixups I've seen...Or was it on purpose? http://www.samuraiflamenco.com/character/#13 Quote

Destiny is a step backwards from Seed. the only thing i liked from Destiny was the master/real grade kits that came out of it. Edited December 19, 2013 by davidwhangchoi Quote
Tochiro Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Well, Seed was always supposed to be a show that mixed elements from the older UC shows and add prettier animation on top to try to appeal to a new, younger audience. Essentially it was supposed to be Gundam's Macross Frontier (issues of cannonicity and continuity not withstanding). So, while that doesnt excuse its quality as a show, the approach it took was something that viewers already knew about. It's not like it was ripping said elements off and claiming they were original or anything. Ah Seed Destiny - I was in hospital for an operation when the 1st episode broadcast. I remember feeling considerably worse after watching it from the hospital bed, lol. Quote
Guest davidwhangchoi Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 seed i can watch again, destiny was missing a key ingredient: - innocent boy accidentally falls into a giant mech and becomes it's pilot. Quote

Keith Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I liked Destiny for one simple reason. LUNAMARIA! No eait, that's not it. It eas the "reverse Zeta" that they pulled. I remember many were excited that a new impulsive pilot was finally "sticking it" to Kirs, okly to find out that Kira was still the star of the show, while Shin & crew were Durandul's manufactured imitators. I actually thought that was a pretty good plot twist for a U. C. series, and worked out pretty well. With that said, I thought OO was a much better seties overall, complete with its evil Amuro. Quote

antibiotictab Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Not exactly current but watching 'Future Police Urashiman'. Still love that Police VW Beetle. It is being re-aired on Tokyo MX TV right now. 2 times a week. Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) Giant Gorg has episodes 24 and 25 subbed recently, one more episode left to be subbed! With that said I watched them, the twist was predictable, but it was still well executed. Yesterday I finished Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos. Good parts: Leina and Triple Jim grew a pair and guts, some of the new robots (Rockdon, Rockgiran, Land Commander 5, Gattai Saurer, and Pro Truck Racer) were neat, episodes 39 to 44 were rather well written, episodes were less inconsistent in the animation department, and Gadess was a pretty good villain. Unfortunately it had more than enough bad parts: (Blue Jet and Rod Drill never really improved, Devil Satan 6 once exploded (with acid) just to come back again good as new (continuity error much?), the twist that Garudi was Rom's older brother was handled very poorly (they never built that up or hinted it or ANYTHING), Gadess's death was so quick instead of having a real battle that it felt anticlimactic, and finally THE LAST THREE EPISODES WERE CLIPSHOWS. LAST THREE. WHY DID YOU NOT STOP AT 44? "Oh but Duel what about that final shot that makes Rom and Leina seem incesty?" What? 15 seconds after they thought their armor was torn off and they were in space? Seemed more like they were trying to stick together and not get lost IN SPACE. Unfortunately I cannot give this series a score or anything just yet as the story concludes in a three part OVA. Because said OVA was never subbed and I have more interest in finishing some other things I am in no rush to conclude it. I just got to episode 9 in Chobits. Ugh, terrible comedy and the Hideki won't stop over reacting to EVERYTHING. I'd be lying if I said the mini persicom (Sumomo, probably spelling that wrong though) was not adorable though, one thing I will give CLAMP credit for is that they can make cute mascots. At least they seem to be hinting Chi having some mysterious origin, which so far has the potential to be interesting. Not holding my breath though. And then there is Valvrave, latest episode with prevailing mob logic and Saki's comeback was.... Not going to say what, but I was not impressed. Add a little logic fail and I can safely say this lost what chance it had of getting a 4 out of 10 from me. Maybe I'm being hard on this series since I miss Mecha Talk (I should show you guys the poetry I make about that, not going to though), maybe it is genuinely insulting and poorly constructed, regardless I will say that the mecha and action deserve a much better anime than this. Oh yeah and THEY KILLED RAIZO! DANG IT HE WAS AWESOME! Edited December 20, 2013 by DuelGundam2099 Quote
Ghost Train Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Just watched The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki. ... manly tears of sadness were excreted from my eyes. Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Earlier I watched Lightning Trap aka some Machine Robo spinoff that takes place in the OVA universe and it was just Die Hard with a scorpion mecha. Not bad although it could have been better. I also watched the new Kill la Kill. Is Trigger trying to make this bad on purpose? "Ryuko will die of blood loss!" HOW THE HELL DID SHE SURVIVE AT ALL? If all that blood loss would not kill her, Mako's neck breaking slap would have. The assassin scene was decent though, way too comical for what should have been serious. At least the action was decent this episode and guerrilla guy came back. The whole "take over other schools" nonsense feels thrown in at the last minute. And geez samurai guy, you can unsew your eyes already. Quote

Marzan Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Finished watching Galilei Donna (I don't why I endured this!) and it's safe to say that it sucked. Big time. It's a shame really, the first episode showed a lot of promise but the whole thing was let down by bad writing and characterizations. Quote
Keith Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) I still liked Galilei Donna, even if it was just a quick little series that didn't go much of anywhere... Edited December 24, 2013 by Keith Quote
Beltane70 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I liked it, too, but it didn't live up to its potential. Although I did see it mentioned somewhere that the series was originally written as a 24-26 episode series, but was cut down to 11 at the last minute. Quote

DuelGundam2099 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) I just watched Plastic Little because /m/ likes it from a cult perspective so I figured I'd give it a watch. This, ladies and gentlemen, is why you expand on settings that are not based on real world places. The art style was good and it had decent action, but man did stupidity hit this with a ton of bricks: -Oh the main character is a gynoid but with organs and ages! Don't bother asking where the anti-bullet skin came from!-Lets wait several hours before saying why the military is chasing me!-Pointless fan service followed by a forced emotional moment to coincide with a moment from earlier that was not forced seem as such!-We hunt animals but we have a missile launching hovercraft!-Our job involves submarines, we only inform you half way in!-This is a colony underwater or above water but in the sky or something!-It is too dangerous to go! Okay lets go! (is the secondary cast just really fickle?)-Oh hey the military never bothered coming for us that night!-The main character's clock blows up her hotel room for no reason! Actually wait she lives on the submarine!-We switch from underwater to dry land between cuts!-The grapple gun the main character loses suddenly pops up!-The colony produces tornadoes and magma!-The military is too dumb to fire on an enemy craft in their territory! And nobody can aim!-The main villain is dumb enough not to disarm his opponent! (death by head shot no less!)-Thruster output suddenly vaporizes the military's entire armada!-Oh don't mind the colony, that giant fissure that destroyed the town took care of itself!-The end credits scene has a weird version of Moby Dick because we can! This feels more like an OVA compilation of a movie. It might not have been this bad if the writing was fixed up and they bothered building up the setting instead of having random tidbits thrown around all the time. This might have been decent if it did that. Second worst one shot OVA after Girl From Phantasia. Earlier I finished Chobits, specials in all. There is an actual good story in this, some episodes were well written, and the music has grown on me some. However it has many issues such as Hideki over reacting ALL THE TIME, the "antagonists" show up and do nothing until the last three episodes with a hamfisted exposition, origin explanation was hamfisted, way too much slice of life junk, mostly in the first half, way too many forced emotional moments (specifically sad ones) that have little to do with anything, the last episode was just a glorified clip show epilogue (and this series had two clip shows already), and the typical "I died, no wait I am back!". You can also tell this was on a budget, which did not help it. This could have worked better if it was cut down to half the episode count and paced plot points better instead of rushing a lot near the end. Chibits was actually amusing, why can't CLAMP do mascot short episode funnies? Finally there is Valvrave. HAHAHAHA! /m/ and Anime Suki have already shoved their hands up this anime's rectum and tore its organs out while beating it with a 3-wood. 1/10, worse anime I have ever watched, even worse than friggin' Puni Puni Poemii and when you are worse that loli bondage that is a feat. Marzan Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Got to watch the short films for the Daicon III and IV that the guys that went on to become Gainax made. Amazing animation. Just astounding that a bunch of students did that by hand. I can now understand why they got so much money to make Honneammise. The talent is evident already here. BTW, Crunchyroll will be streaming Kawamori's upcoming show, Nobunaga The Fool which might be of interest for all us Macross fans. Quote

Gainax was also a computer game maker and they could earn money to sell softwares. So that they could make more high grade animes. Not to speak of their talent. I bought the Silent Möbius and Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water games before. Well, I think the biggest hit of them were the "Princess Maker" series. Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 So I just watched the new episode of Akito The Exiled. Oh hey the action was awesome and there was a nice twist! Real shame that the first twenty five minutes was basically some other anime going "look at us we're being artsy!" combined with one painfully drawn failed prison break. I also find it amusing that once they land two of them start shooting everyone "why I never would have thought the random terrorists we captured were going to betray us!" Then there is the moment where Akito's brother for some reason never uses his knightmare frame to capture him or at least kill one of his cohorts (who was clearly capable of being trampled). To boot, if Britannia has giant cannons like that what the hell is making them stalemate on the front lines? I mean with a 500 kilometer reach like that they could easily decimate many towns until they reach Paris. The unneeded anti-Japanese racism still never got explained properly unfortunately. Quote
Vepariga Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Kill La Kill God this anime is so off the wall. I love it! Quote
Dangard Ace Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Kuroko no Basket. It's no Slam Dunk but it's okay. Ridiculous super basketball powers showing up though. High schoolers doing things no NBA players could ever do, though said high schoolers worship nba players, is weird. Quote
Vifam7 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Watched all of Oregairu (My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong as I Expected) over the holiday break. A surprise hit for me and I think one of the better "light novel" based anime series. Cant help but root for Hachiman even though I think some of us wouldn't completely agree with his viewpoint or course of action/inaction. The series is also full of witty dialogue and fantastic quotes that could make one pause and think a bit. Quote

This reminds of the time I trudged my way through Hoop Days(aka Dear Boys) just bcause the writer and artist was Hiroki Yagami of G-Taste fame. The main character was something like 5'8" and could dunk like Jordan. The only other notable thing is the woman teacher that coaches both the girls and boys team is a swimsuit model outside of school and a lesbian in G-taste. Yes both series have a shared universe even though she is strictly professional in the Basketball manga. Quote
