DuelGundam2099 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) Those were only two guns, no third. Anyway I just watched Demon City Shinjuku, an anime movie that was recommended to me years ago but I never got around to watching it until today. I have to say I kind of liked it. camk4evr Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I never said Trigun was crap. I was also paying attention quite well, they still never explained. the three guns are: -Vash's cybernetic arm -his handgun -the angel arm Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) His hand gun transforms into the angel gun though, technically it is the same gun but fused to his arm on and off. Edited April 11, 2013 by DuelGundam2099 Quote
Bri Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) I'm a bit behind on Kyoani, just finished Hyouka and Tamako Market. Especially Hyouka was amazing in terms of visuals and directing even by Kyoani standards. Started on Showa Monogatari. A nostalgic slice of life on a a family in the mid 60s. Probably will take a look at Oreimo S2 and Gargantia. Edited April 12, 2013 by Bri Quote
Archer Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I just started rideback after finishing Tiger and Bunny. Rideback seems fun so far, but Tiger and Bunny was fantastic! I really didn't expect much going into this series, but I actually ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would. The stark contrast between the hilarious main character and the more stern Barnaby, and the comedy that ensues from their partnership and bond made this a fun series. I can seriously understand now why this series is so popular in Japan, even with the shameless levels of advertising, and why it was green lit for a new project (which I'm presuming is a second season). Quote
Beltane70 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I just finished watching the first episode of Valverave The Liberator. Going by first episodes, now it's a bit hard to decide which series I'm liking more, Valverave or Gargantia. However, Majestic Prince is definitely in last place out of the three mecha shows this season. Quote
Einherjar Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 So on April 1st I was just browsing on youtube in the Film & Animation section and randomly clicked on what I thought was a just a normal advert for a Japanese show. It had some action clips and portions of the OP as background music, but near the end of the clip came this huge giant with a evil grin that looked like a human with all of its skin peeled off wrecking a town like in a monster show. At first I thought it was just a elaborate April Fools Joke by a bunch of anime studios, but I later found out that, yes, Attack on Titan is real and that giant thing is in fact part of the premise. This being anime, I really should have known better. I don't know if I'll have the stomach to watch it. Quote
Beltane70 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I have to remember to type the title as Valvrave, not Valverave! I guess you weren't aware that Attack on Titan was a manga first. Quote
Einherjar Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I guess you weren't aware that Attack on Titan was a manga first. Yup, it's also because these days I tend to avoid shows and manga with horror elements. Quote
Beltane70 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Yup, it's also because these days I tend to avoid shows and manga with horror elements. I never read the manga myself, I've just seen it in the manga section of Barnes and Noble. Quote
Tochiro Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Yup, it's also because these days I tend to avoid shows and manga with horror elements. It's not horror, at least not based by episode 1. It's more fantasy with some grotesque elements. First ep wasn't bad. Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I just finished Orguss 02 and wow was it awesome! Hell, I liked it more than the original TV series! The only thing I can complain about is the lack of the titular mecha doing much aside from the final battle, everything else was well executed. I also have no idea why people call the mech designs bad, I thought they were great. Quote

DuelGundam2099 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 The original was an awesome series, I never said it was bad. I will admit some of the middle was sort of slow. Quote
Gubaba Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 The original was an awesome series, I never said it was bad. I will admit some of the middle was sort of slow. So what made 02 MORE awesome? (Let me guess... "MANNING!!") And did you watch "Space Thunder Kids" or are you gonna let MAL dictate your entertainment? Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 (edited) STK is edited from several other movies and I would like to know which ones specifically (all of them). If you can give me a source that lists the movies then I'll give it genuine consideration. As for 02 being more awesome, the story did not have a lot of filler in it, the villains were better, and it cut out unneeded romance garbage and useless characters. The TV series still had a better main character and opening theme though. The ending themes are tied though. Edited April 12, 2013 by DuelGundam2099 Quote

mechaninac Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 As a standalone OVA, I found Orguss II to be very good, but as a follow up to Orguss, it feels too detached from the original; although, because of the overall character and tech designs it does have a passing resemblance. The mecha are pretty good, not to the same standard as those from Orguss, but not bad at all. Like DuelGundam2099 mentioned, the characters are well defined, the story is coherent and without extraneous filler, the action is tight and well executed, and the ending was satisfying and without any WTF existential BS or ambiguity or open ended-ness or just plain bad rushed wrapping-up like so many other anime... and it even had epilogues for the characters that made sense. Quote
Gubaba Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Wikipedia says it was made from several. Oh, well clearly you know better than I do. I can only marvel at how seamlessly the American editors assembled the final product. Anyway, never mind. If you're so strenuously arguing against giving even "consideration" to a Youtube video that's been presented to you, then I guess that's that. Most people would, I think, just check the video and see if they liked it, rather than play twenty questions and research it on MAL and Wikipedia before choosing whether to click the play button or not. Man, this is like the worst blind date ever... Quote
Beltane70 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 While Space Thunder Kids may have been a single film, it's designs were certainly ripped off of several anime shows! In the preview alone I noticed three right off the bat; Gundam, Yamato, and Crusher Joe. Hell, they even went as far as using Yamato's music! Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I've never seen Yamato 2199 so I'd never know. Quote
Tochiro Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I've never seen Yamato 2199 so I'd never know. Well, thats a shame because you are missing quite possibly the best remake ever made. Its on par with BSG in my opinion. Blurays are region free and have English subs too. Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 If watching a bunch of stuff all my life has taught me anything it is that it is a good idea to watch the first entries in franchises and work your way through production order rather than jump into later ones no matter how standalone. Not necessarily something that is necessary in this case any more that watching the original BSG was necessary to enjoy the later remake. Doing so gives you much more appreciation for what has been improved, but doesnt change the fact that its good on its own. It all depends on your tolerance for 1972 animation I suppose. Not to mention that the original isnt legally available subbed anyways. Quote
