SuperHobo Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 To be honest Clannad and (After Story) dissappointed me. The art and animation is top notch and some of the stories are indeed very touching, but after a while it get's kind of repetitive IMO and at some point it really felt like 'tragedy porn' to me. It felt like they were consciously making this series and thinking: "yeah and this point is when X does this and everyone cries". Actually it's interesting that you bring up the meeting between Tomoya and his dad, because to me, that's the single most important of all of the relationships in the series and Tomoya getting to experience and understand how his father became the way he was, was indeed a very valuable lesson for him and beautifully written. If it had ended with Tomoya as a single dad being supported by friends and family and not repeating the mistakes of his father, then I would have another opinion, but I felt the ending was such a terrible cop out that it really lessened the appreciation I had of it. It just ended with the restart button and no lessons were learnt. I agree with your opinion about after story and about the "redo" ending. I felt season one was generic and kind of boring. The only reason I stuck around for after story was because all of the praise I heard about it. With that being, said I enjoyed after story because it steers away from school life and goes into the part of life where it really matters as an adult. I definitely would have applauded the studio if they had the balls to end the story with Tomoya being a single parent who's grown to be a great father and would that be one hell of a unique ending for an anime. I think I could also have left out the little robot and little girl completely. Okay that's enough of turning this into a Clannad thread. Quote

Majestic Prince ended yesterday and while far from stellar, it has some of the finest mecha battle sequences I've seen for a tv series quality level anime. The second half of the series is almost non-stop action that makes you completely forget the shoddy character designs. Anyone wanting some mecha pron could do worse than checking it out. Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 The second half of the series is almost non-stop actionI wouldn't go THAT far. Ataru and the villains got little development, the jokes were corny, and the non-action eps tended to be subpar. Still better than Valvrave. Quote

DuelGundam2099 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Not surprising, they were so unfunny that they were easy to miss. Quote
Keith Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 EVERYONE NEEDS TO WATCH NADEKO MEDUSA PART I RIGHT NOW!!! I can't believe this season of Monogatari is cramming so much incredible into it. Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 What is it about and why do you say that? Quote

DuelGundam2099 Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Yesterday I finished Shonan Junai Gumi. It is weird, the third and fourth eps were surprisingly well written, real shame the last episode had to ruin it with more ecchi junk. There was also a lot of rape (on both genders no less), kind of disturbing. Quote
Scream Man Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Well after Age seeming to be tolerable, but not great, I decided to try Sword Art online. 5 Episodes in so far, I'm actually really enjoying it. Quote
technoblue Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 That was one dark and ominous chapter. Specially that beginning. The season has certainly taken a sudden turn. Quote
Keith Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 I didn't expext any of that from this character arc. If this one does end with Nafeko's death, it'll make the end of the Neko Shiro arc even sadder. Quote
Marzan Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Finished Mawaru Penguindrum and it was one breathtaking ride. I'm sure that I missed half of the symbolism in it so I'll probably rematch someday. Definitely a must see. Thanks to Major Focker for the recommendation. Quote
isamu Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Finished watching Eva for the third time last night(original TV series not the movies). First time I watched it in about 5 years. Good ole Eva,,,same mind frakk it's always been I am wondering if the new remake movies are much better than the TV series, and are they worth watching even though the final 4.44 film is not out yet? When the hell is it coming out anyway? Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 4.0 does not even have an announced title yet. Quote
Keith Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I just watched the series last month. As for the movies, yes, you should definately move on to those next. Hell, they just announced the prelimibary title for the last one. Quote
antibiotictab Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I planed what to watch in this Autumn. How many animes will survive? Quote
renegadeleader1 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I just got Queen's Blade Rebellion in the mail today. Quote
Ghost Train Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I am really enjoying Gatchaman Crowds! Love the art direction and those really exaggerated character designs. Quote
Major Focker Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 hmmm... maybe i should check it out again. i dropped it after just the first episode. Quote
Scream Man Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I'm watching Infinite Stratos. i hate Harem anime. I like Mecha anime. This is a greatly conflicting show. One the harem front, he should just bang Charlotte. Shes not weird, is hot, and gets him. The rest are all horrible people. On the mecha Front, u can tell this is the Frontier guys, and that's pretty cool Quote
Ghost Train Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Yes, the Char is my favorite too... Quote

If I read antibiotictab's table correctly, I think it is due for a new season? Quote

Major Focker Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 great episode to end Toaru Kagaku No Railgun S. really enjoyed this second season, more than the first and much more than either season of its parent anime Toaru Majutsu no Index. not that i didn't enjoy those too, but Railgun S was just more fun, and had really epic episodes mid-season where the musical score, the animation, the VA and the setting just came together to create something memorable. so with this, and Blood Lad and Attack on Titan now finished, i have 3 slots to fill. maybe i'll pick up Infinite Stratos, maybe also re-start Madoka (admittedly i struggled to get past the first few episodes). any other recent/current animes? I planed what to watch in this Autumn. How many animes will survive? 2013??????.jpg what is "Macross Frontier (with Grace's Report)"? Quote
antibiotictab Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 what is "Macross Frontier (with Grace's Report)"? The special program of MF. Just like "The Men Who Made Macross?" Aired at tomorrow night in Hokkaido at first. It'll be released within the new BD box and longer than the TV version. Quote
technoblue Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 It is. Get ready for more mecha/multinational harem action. Fantastic! Thank you. Quote
DuelGundam2099 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I just watched some two part OVA called Holy Knight or as I like to call it Vampire Wars 2.0: Ecchi Junk Edition. Lets see the problems with this: -Ultra annoying cast -Weird editing -Cliffhanger ending -Plot points that go nowhere -Opening themes that promise sword play when none is present -Pedo photographers (well there was only one but still) -Half the mysteries not being solved -Too much fan service (we did not need so much obnoxious bouncing and panty shots) I wanted vampire sword fighting, not "I must have a child because the cult told me too!"
