reddsun1 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 John Q. Taxpayer ought not be too keen on that little waste of budgetary discretion, eh? Photo ops and the occasional public relations news story aside, that doesn't seem very sensible at all. Seems to operate on the assumption that the criminal set is of such a caliber that will mind the blue lights, be good sports about it all, eh? Must be nice, living in society so civilized as that... electric indigo Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Michael Schuhmacher is not in coma anymore and has left the clinic in Grenoble! Further treatment will happen in the University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland. Quote
peter Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Man, glad he pulled through, good news indeed. Hope he makes a full recovery. Found this little gem, not sure if it's ever been posted: Quote
reddsun1 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Well that calls for a little hoorah! Was just watching Top Gear rerun last night--the Schumi "Stig reveal gag" episode--and wondered: has there been any change in his condition in all this time? Quote
electric indigo Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Well, I had to learn that "not being in coma" does not mean that he's actually awake. From the sparse news that's available, it could well mean that they terminated the medication to keep him in a comatose state, and that he's now in a so-called vegetative state, hence the change of hospitals. reddsun1 Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 (edited) Yesterday in slow traffic, I passed a "chrome" gold Gallardo heading the other way. Gotta admit, that has to have been the first time I have ever been left utterly gobsmacked--in person--by the absolute extravagance and sh*t taste displayed by an exotic car owner. *...ya know what? anime52k8 Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 very cool. I'm planing on getting a new car by the end of the year. I'm right now I'm going back and forth between a mazda3 and a WRX, but if anyone has any suggestions for a new model under 30k, I'd love to here them. Quote

I'm right now I'm going back and forth between a mazda3 and a WRX, but if anyone has any suggestions for a new model under 30k, I'd love to here them. If you want a performance car, the new WRX is a really good choice for the money. The Mazda 3 is an excellent everyday car with decent fuel efficiency. The Ford Focus ST is also a good choice standing somewhere between the Mazda 3 and WRX. I have a 1st gen Mazdaspeed 3 and it is a really great performance hatch for the money. But the car has a bit more road noise than other cars in this class, even in the new 2015 Mazda 3. There should be some excellent deals at the end of the year. I got over $4500 off MSRP when I bought my Mazda in December many years ago. Quote
renegadeleader1 Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) I attended my first ever Monster jam event and I'm really disapointed. It was rushed, felt rigged, and I felt ripped off for what I paid. Here's Son Uva Digger the winner of the freestyle(won the racing trophy earlier) Here's Northern Nightmare who should have won I just don't see how Digger jr won given it barely got any air and crapped out its bonus time while Nightmare did a freaking backflip! ErikElvis Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Man I remember not being able to wait for saturday mornings and the monster trucks. its a shame how they just fell out of popularity. it is pretty ridiculous what they can do. Quote
reddsun1 Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) Both are nice, but I actually like the Martini car better. Sure, the Anvil sounds plenty mean--but not every car has to go so gonzo over the top with the elephantine big blocks, 'pass everything 'cept a gas station.' The '66 reads like a formula for much more fun: much lighter, with plenty (enough for a unibody) horses on tap. And it sounds really wicked. Edited June 22, 2014 by reddsun1 Quote

areaseven Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 The Rally Fighter is an off-road sports car created by Local Motors, inspired by World War II fighter planes. Under the hood is a BMW 3.0 liter twin-turbo Clean Diesel engine that generates 265 bhp and 425 lb-ft torque, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It also makes an appearance in Transformers: Age of Extinction. 2010 Local Motors Rally Fighter Local Motors Quote
Phyrox Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 So, eh...what part of that is inspired by WWII fighters? The twin turbo diesel or the un-necessary body flares? Not saying it isn't cool, but I'm not seeing the inspirational connection. Quote
reddsun1 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) I suppose from the profile view, the outlines of the shape are supposed to mimic those of the bird next to it? From the outline of the nose and the top of the fenders, flowing back to the "bubble canopy" shaped greenhouse. I guess the character line running from the back of the front wheelwell into the lower front of the door is supposed to be reminiscent of a wing root? Definitely a bit of a stretch, though; fair bit of squinting and imagination required. Edited June 27, 2014 by reddsun1 Quote

Retracting Head Ter Ter Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Yup, if its gonna be 'WW2 Warbird' inspired, it better have a V12 (unless you can stuff at least a 9 cyl radial air cooled lump in there), have exhaust stacks that vents sideways out of the engine bay, be force fed and have movable radiator flaps! A 2 speed supercharger would be icing on the cake. As would water-methanol injection. Quote
reddsun1 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) $3.5 Mil at Mecum auction. Dahell? These high-profile auctions [i.e. pissing contests for the nouveau riche?] are pricing the middle class right out of the market for these cars... Edited June 30, 2014 by reddsun1 Quote
Phyrox Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Convertible E-body Hemi have been out of "middle class" range for some time. I think there are less than 10 '71 Hemi 'Cuda convertibles. These were high 6 figures 15 years ago, and the market has gone insane since then for all muscle. It's a lot, but it isn't wildly out of line with where the market's been. For collectors, rarity = price Quote
reddsun1 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Yeah, I know: it's been like that for quite some time. I'm putting away my violin and soapbox, now. I wonder if Dynacorn will ever offer complete Mopar body shells, like they do with 1st gen Camaros & Mustangs? With the availability of 5.7L and 6.1L crate Hemi's, it could conceivably create the ability to build up a repro E-body street fighter, in the sub-$50K range? (and maybe, just maybe, it could end up less of a porker than the new-Challenger?) Quote
