Dobber Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) Progress shots on Yamato. Here is the weathered port side lower hull. Still more to do but I want to give it a day so I won't go too far and over do it....gives me some perspective Here are som pictures of my modified Cosmo Zero Hangar. I add the folded external doors that are just under the upper deck. They actually have the correct dog tooth pattern on their under side but it is really hard to see due to how the doors fold. I tried to follow how the work as shown in the "EARTH" art book. I also added the slanted hull section next to the turret as that was missing in the upgrade sets and just had the bulkhead sticking out from the turret. I also did the best I could with partition wall the separates Alpha 1 and 2 but do to the nature of how these parts go together it was quite difficult to get in there and fix the seem. mechaninac Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Somehow, the hull plating effect on the bellow-the-water-line section looks even more impressive than the gray portions. Awesome work. Quote
Falcon18 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Wow. Love that weathering. Amazing work. Quote
Dobber Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) Thanks guys, I did the starboard side today, I'll take a few pictures later this evening. Chris Edited September 25, 2014 by Dobber Quote

edstuff Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 hand made figure I'm working on. Gonna be a sharkticon when it's finished. hopefully it doesn't turn out too horribly. It'll be my first attempt. Quote
modelglue Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Wow that Yamato is spectacular so far. Very fine work! A hand-made articulating figure is quite the daunting project. I think you're pretty brave and motivated to get that far along with it. I will be checking back to see more for sure! that is a cool project. Quote
derex3592 Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Priming and sanding, priming and sanding, yawwwwn.... Quote
UN_MARINE Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I've been working on this thing forever. I think I'm at the point where there's nothing left to mess with, but can't help feeling I missed something. Quote

UN_MARINE Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I joked about something missing... and this happens. When the time comes, I hope I can pull of a paint job at least half as good as that Yamato. Come to think of it... I've never done any weathering on my projects. Looks like this will be the test subject. Quote
derex3592 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Lord help me...I just succumbed to temptation and ordered the Bandai 1:500 Space Battleship Yamato kit!!! It looks like soooo much fun! Quote
MacrossJunkie Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 That is some mighty fine work there, Dobber. That Yamato looks great! Quote

Dobber Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Been steadily working on Yamato. Just about ready for the wash. Here are the shock cannons. Need to fix some things here and there, particularly on the "smoke-stack" and conning tower. The fins, tower, ect are just dry fit on to see what it looks like. Chris Quote
derex3592 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 That looks fantastic Dobber! Mine should be on my front porch tomorrow! I might be hittin you up for ideas! Quote

wm cheng Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 So what's the consensus on the deck colour, I didn't know it was "wood" planks in space?! Quote

I put like an hour or so of work into it since then and you can't even tell. It's all just structural. Quote

Dobber Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 So what's the consensus on the deck colour, I didn't know it was "wood" planks in space?!After watching the anime again along with the painting guid that came with the kit, the deck is definitely a darker grayish color. The color I went with was a custom mix of earth and German grey.....gives it a brownish dark grey color. Chris Quote

Very cool, now I gotta get back to my GX-64 toy and see if I can easily paint that in - argh. Quote

wm cheng Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Where did you buy it so that the box says "Starblazers 2199" Is it a sticker over the Yamato 2199 logo or did they actually print a different box for the NA export? Quote
