@ Electric Indigo: I've said this once about your ZOE Jehuty, and I'll say it again about your Fighting Falcon: I love the subtle shading you do for your model kits.

MMM!!! I have one of those but with the non Macross decal set  Always wanted to build it up and give a Macross themed paint just not as Shin's ride as its done, May be one day.

We have lift off...

Electric Indigo, I really love this shot. Your painting and weathering skills really bring the models to life. Did you build the kit out of box or did you make any modifications? I do not remember seeing the radome lightning diverter strips being included as new parts or molded on the kit.

There is some really great work here! And some equally great photography. My pics are not nearly as

sharp, but I haven't seen any posts on the site of buildups of the Wave 1:100 Valks. so I took a few shots of mine. Just preliminary assembly so far (with a 6 year old and an 11 month old modeling time is rare and brief so these will probably take a couple of years to finish.:ph34r::p )

They are really nice little kits. Lots of detail for the size and I love the proportions and the sculpt. Definitely worth picking up if you fancy smaller scales.

It's the 1/72 Hasegawa release from 2011 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10144510; the base kit might be the 2000 kit of the F-16C, with additional parts on separate runners for the Emirate's E. I did not use any 3rd party upgrades, the pilot is recast from Hase's 1/72 aircraft crew figure set, which looks much better than the neckless kit's figure. I built the HUD from two bits of 0.25 mm plastic sheet and iridescent gift wrap foil, which I also used on the sniper pod.

Fitting and detail level is what you expect from Hasegawa, although not quite as good as their 2003 kit of the Mitsubishi F-2 I have here for comparison. It needs putty at the intake parts and the seams of the two fuselage halves.

Great work guys! The valks look great and so does the 19 pilot and seat. That Blue Thunder kit brings back memories Shaorin. Girls with big cleavage standing near windows will never be safe again! Let alone those doing pilates in their own courtyards  -MT

Ok! I just couldn't resist... I'm so happy with how it turned out. Can you guess what it will be?

I've always been scratching my head of how to paint the missile bodies white, with the red cap and have a dark background when the piece is molded all together - short of insanely painting each missile body individually. Well, if you paint the whole thing in Tamiya white acrylic, then dampen a rag with a bit of windex, you can rub the tips off exposing the red plastic underneath. Then use a thick black oil wash to do the base and the capillary action will draw the black wash around the base of each missile (looking like a hole from which the missiles emerge) and adding instant depth to the missile pack interior. Use the same black oil wash to dot the tips of the red caps to show off the engraved warhead details. Volia, instantly better than just the red molded suckers that came in the box!

I want to power through this one if I can (don't know how much time I'll have - so no step-by-step thread for this one, its pretty much like the previous one I already did which I have been referring too before I started) but missing out on the Renewals made me pine for this bird and actually crack the box even though its a nightmare in masking! Plus when Hasegawa issues theirs, I doubt I'll ever look back at my Bandai collection.

wm cheng, the Gods of Modelling do not approve of your heresy: shortcuts are looked upon with severe disfavour! To pacify them, I hereby command you to prick your thumb with a craft-knife. For we all well know that no good model is finished without the blood of the builder splashed liberally upon the subject....

Seriously though William, great work, and I look forwards to seeing the final result! I haven't done any modelling for some time, due to work commitments. Maybe this will motivate me!

That's Missilicious! Yes, it's a word (now) ^_^ Thanks for taking the time to share and show a BETTER way to do it! Please at least give us some completed shots of the model! - MT

Working on my second egg plane. I still need to do the landing gear, paint the pilot, dullcoat, tamiya weathering (and the head laser), but getting closer to finished.

Started work on Tamiya's 1:350 DKM Bismarck as a reward for tedious progress on Queen Mary 2 (do work on one, and switch to the other). Again, I'm going to install a wood deck. I think it worked out really well on my Yamato. I really wish Pontos (the manufacturer of said deck) really would include better instructions...

We all know that Wm Cheng's idea of a power through (read built as fast as possible) will still out do most of our best months long efforts.

Here's some in progress shots, everything in white styrene or brass I added to the original kit. (since they don't make a model of this ship).

Oh and those aren't decals on the flight deck.

I had to make the entire radar mast from scratch.

Phenomenal work Grayson! I can't believe how small and perfect everything is. As I age, and my eyesight gets poorer, the more I appreciate tiny details!!

Posted (edited)

Thans guys! I've got about 500 hours into it. I'm still gonna add some more details. It's a gift for my father, this was his ship in Vietnam.

That's awesome Grayson. If I received something like that I'd be beaming with pride. Does he know about it?

Yeah I presented it to him, he flew up to my place so he couldn't take it with him. That gives me more time to add details. It brought up a lot of emotions for him, i.e., beeming with pride that I'd spent so much time and effort creating this for him to such precise detail (he's a mechanical engineer) but also remembering being 19 and seeing the flight deck lined with black body bags etc...
