Sorry for photo-bombing you guys with so many photos! The armored car I'm modifying is based on the French Panhard AML-90 (below). I modernized it a bit. You can see where the over-sized turret comes from. Normal people remove screws from their tires and plug the hole. I punched a hole and glued some hanging out! These are what will hold the model to the base. I used silicone RTV to glue them in place. Here's the completed tires and base with screw heads underneath. I FINALLY got to put a base coat of paint on my model this weekend. Time for A LOT of weathering and detailing. Last weekend was spent doing landscaping on the base by adding more sand and more dead plant life. This was BEFORE I drilled the holes for the screws in the base. I also rusted parts from an old artillery carriage frame. I'm thinking of calling this diorama "The Sands of Time" or "Haunt of Jackals", but I'm not sure yet. That's it for this time. Thanks for checking in everyone! - MT Great work man! Quote
Thom Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 @MechTech I say photo-BOMB all you want! Quote
CrossAir Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 @MechTech it’s getting better and better with every post. This will be a pretty cool diorama. Quote
Urashiman Posted November 21, 2021 Author Posted November 21, 2021 Okay, next phase on the F-5B cockpit section finished. I’ll have to do a lot of sanding now, and then, the good old panel line scribing. YAY! A bit better lighting today, so the “detail” is showing better. Quote

I squeeze a bit out and apply with a toothpick along the seam or gap, and then wipe with a wet q-tip. Not meant for big gaps obviously, but for wing roots and such it is pretty perfect. And it's water-based, so just add more water to reactivate it. Thanks @Thom I'll have to try that out. Quote
Thom Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 @Urashiman gREAT PROGRESS SO FAR ON THE REPAIRS! Quote
Urashiman Posted November 23, 2021 Author Posted November 23, 2021 Okay, update on the F5B. I basically drenched it in Revell putty yesterday and let it dry for ~24 hours. and today I started to sand away on this like crazy. Uh! So this is where I am at now. One side almost done, the other still needs so sandpaper love. I think I am on a good way here fixing this crappy kit. Lets see how it‘ll turn out. Quote

pengbuzz Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Well... I guess we're going to start 2022 a little early here- I used High-Density Polystyrene (HDPS) that I culled from an old printer,to make the new wing attachment roots; thwe For the main joint, I got a piece of PVC tube and measured and cut it to the length of the entire joint (back interior wall to front interior wall). I then cut it in half and glued each half to a staggered set of wing roots: The main pin is a hardwood dowel; this was chosen so that instead of splitting the tube (a real possibility, due to the fact that I had to cut slots in either side to accept the wing roots), it would compress instead: Testing of the new pivot in "X" formation: Testing of the new piece in both deployed and closed positions (sorry about the washed-out lighting): I then cut slots into the rear of the wing roots to properly mount the s-foils; I had to cut a sizeable chunk out of the area where the wing originally mounted and replace it with a better plastic: Finally, finished: The wings cant inward and downward slightly; that was unavoidable, given the work I had to do. The softness of the plastic determined for me that I had to male a few concessions in order to preserve the structural integrity of the craft as a whole. But, at least it's together now, and I'm sure the filming models weren't 100 percent perfect either! Now: to get Darth's TIE X1 Advanced, and make a diorama... Stay tuned. Quote
Thom Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 @pengbuzz Nice save at the 2021 Buzzer! Just proves you can't keep a good modeller down! @Urashiman Looking good! Now I can't wait to see the finish. Quote
MechTech Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 @pengbuzz GREAT save! That was an ingenious fix and creative with the materials too! The force is strong with this one!😁 Now you have a beautiful model for your collection. - MT Quote

(la vie) *ducks* Now the next challenge: how to build a Death Star Trench Run diorama that isn't the size of a small room... Quote
arbit Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 (edited) Hi All, So I made this short build video for my new project, a platform deck add-on for my 1/72 Flight Deck. It is not a public video, only you guys can see it. I wanted to ask your opinions before I release it, whether you like this kind of thing, if the quality is good enough, and if I should make more throughout the project. I'm not really into spending hours editing a professional video, but I can do something like this. Edited November 24, 2021 by arbit Quote

Great looking console @arbit 6 hours ago, pengbuzz said: ...Now the next challenge: how to build a Death Star Trench Run diorama that isn't the size of a small room... 1/144 scale, or is that still too big? Probably save space if you just do the floor and the 'back' wall. Quote

MechTech Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 @arbit That's a cool idea! Just keep your work short and to the point. I see some videos and the dudes talk for like 10 minutes before they actually do anything. I look forward to your upcoming build! - MT Quote

So what ratio of my video was useless talking versus informative talking? Don't be shy, I need constructive criticism. Of course, I will be actually building stuff and showing the project plan, this was just an off the cuff test of lighting, photography and audio. Quote
electric indigo Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 Let's build another Harrier. @arbit The lighting was good, audio could be louder IMO, and good focus on the little details. Quote
Urashiman Posted November 25, 2021 Author Posted November 25, 2021 I felt, that I needed a break from the F-5B. So I started building something I have on my kit pile for years now. I got that VF-19A when it released the first time almost two decades ago. I also got the photo etched set from jasmine models, which is so awesome. I really like it. Quote
505thAirborne Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 (edited) Putting my first HOUND together today. This is the first time I have ever built a kit made by WAVE, I must say I am very impressed of how every thing fits together, locks in places, only one little part was a royal pain otherwise a pleasure to build. Painting & Decals to follow plus some pics. Fingers crossed a Hiro figure becomes available. Edited November 27, 2021 by 505thAirborne Quote
Thom Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 Most of the assembly is done on my F-4J. It was going to be Showtime 100, but some hiccups in construction made me alter that. Also got the Finemolds F-4J kit and it has markings for the Freelancers, so I'll be trading those out and saving Showtime 100 for another build. As it sits now. And since I'm doing this in a GB that I'm going to miss the deadline on, I'm going to shift it to the side and go back to the F-14 GB and get it to the same level of construction before painting both. Here's the progress so far on the Tomcat. Modelling on! Quote
MechTech Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 @arbit The video was good. I would focus on speaking clearly with confidence, be precise / brief to the point, edit footage to keep it brief, and keep a sense of humor. And don't be afraid to be funny - BUT be yourself! @electric indigo That cockpit looks great! You can never have enough Harriers! @Urashiman Yes, mental health is important!😁 That is a great looking photoetch set! @505thAirborne What series is that from? I'm not familiar with it? @Thom Those ejection seat fixes look good! - MT Quote
pengbuzz Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 @arbit my suggestion: no dancing hamsters. Quote
Thom Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 (edited) @MechTech Thanks! It's Academy's newer 1/72 F-14A. Said to have all the parts for all variants, but the seats were missing some for the D-variant, so I raided a Revell Hornet and mashed them together with some blank styrene. Urashiman Posted November 27, 2021 Author Posted November 27, 2021 IT‘S ALIVE! Okay… I think the F-5B is alive and kicking again. Still need some panel line scribing but, it looks okay now. And because working on two kits is not enough, I started kit number three! Maxs VF-22 from macross 7. Quote
505thAirborne Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 Very fun kit to build! Time for some clear coat & decals. Quote
arbit Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 @Urashiman A YF-19 is always a good idea. Why build anything other than Macross anyway, right @505thAirborne That bike looks so cool, I'm drooling. Wave does have good quality, I have enjoyed building a couple things by them. I also really like their plastic, it is totally different than other model brands. Kind of hefty. And @Thom is building a Thomcat, go figure. Quote

MechTech Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 @Thom Getting everything together right for the "D" model seems to be tough for some reason. Even some purpose built "D" model kits. @Urashiman @505thAirborne Ah yes, "Venus Wars". I loved the organic looking vehicles from that in lineart I saw. I don't remember if I saw the movie or not. That is a COOL looking model kit! It almost looks like it would be a possibility today. - MT Quote
Urashiman Posted November 27, 2021 Author Posted November 27, 2021 @MechTech hahahahaha yeah! @arbit indeed. But this time it is a VF19A. who can guess the white one? Quote
