That's a cool Ghost going on there!

Nice work on the cockpit glass. Did you sand it in place or before it was put in.?

The sprue piece already had a wedge profile that fit right into the cutout for the windows. While it stuck in place I cut the right side angles with my little rotary saw, removed the clear piece and filed it into the final shape.

In between gloss coat and water slide sessions on my other projects, been working on this V1 Ghost X-9 by @Xigfrid the master. It comes with  the clear (and very cool) canopy or the resin eye option. I'm a bit torn between which one to use. As i'm running LED's on this project. Two very different looks, so..

Here's the clear canopy. I'm trying to get away from too bright and over powering. But i want the gimmick to look good..8C2E2DEE-8079-4B89-9350-D99049B8A84B.thumb.jpeg.7f42788bc656efbd723f90995fe24b13.jpeg328BC84E-31E3-4FF6-8BAC-4C62ABCCA0BA.thumb.jpeg.7d376bbb7a5853245018bb49fcea20fe.jpeg648CE3FD-59F2-48CC-9D46-DF9430B1F850.thumb.jpeg.22f4e4de3abcfe40495cd1ae504639f2.jpeg

I'm also going to add LED's for the exhaust end..probably white and red.8C142B33-3FBA-4024-9CA9-5A6623212779.thumb.jpeg.f77a540655c4e4b3d6f70b74236d0a2e.jpeg

There's a ton of room in this baby! @Xigfrid was very helpful in the design:) will also be adding one of these two small, tactile switches..ADFEC52B-2896-4DF4-AA9D-20C6D1669378.thumb.jpeg.87e704c329ebde862e92cf67126847fe.jpeg

Bolt, Looking good. I also have the V1 from Xigfrid. A prized piece next to my M+ valks.

But of course he had to go and make an even cooler V2 :)

Hey @arbit thanks:) did you build yours?

Ya his V2 is beautiful!

I'm favoring the resin eye as of now..

Real nice work on the lighting. That's going to look great.

Thanks guys!:)

Did some more test lighting, decided to try yellow. With super parts on..1E1E07E3-ADDC-4EEC-B8AA-3F89A3E965A4.thumb.jpeg.8e96c19008ade1b3e8e7f217e50b66b9.jpeg4DF19967-104A-4F49-AA30-D5EE901CE832.thumb.jpeg.b92085f57d51a1a750ee173a300ef09f.jpeg

There's a few seams i would seal to better concentrate the light. And some seams I wouldn't, for that glowie Tron look:D Also worked out switch locations. I decided to use both switches. Powered separately. It actually saves room on wire runs to and fro..Yep, there's room. One switch for the eye and one switch for jets.  I've already worked out battery locations and will show those once I've fabricated the battery clips and installed them. But here's the switch locations mounted on either end of the underslung missile bay. Both are tucked neatly out of the way. Will be accessible with a small tool and won't be in the way of the mini HMMs. The mini switch located on the fore of the bay is for the eye and the switch aft is for the jets..

I was able to work on this today between coats of varnish on a boat hatch I'm building.

Cheers!

Honestly, that went better than I expected it to.... LOL. I cut the giant saucer sections up into 7 parts. Not perfect, few hairline cracks and microscopic wrinkles, but whatever. I ran out of Microsol so I guess I'll call it a day.

The YF-21 and Enterprise are looking great so far!

I was having trouble trying to fit the old cap gun mechanism into the turrets I built. Hopefully this is the start of one that WILL fit. So far this is a steel sleeve with a helix soldered around it. A bearing fits on the front to support it. The planetary motor fits into the sleeve for compactness. This mechanism drives the bolt forward and releases it on the cap gun. - MT

SunDuk, Nice to see a YF-21 in progress. Scheme looks very interesting. Hope to see lots of photos as you progress.

Mechtech, Interesting set up. I look forward to seeing it function.

You wellcome(: Today did white gray and brown, it was darker then i expected, but i like it(hope under flat gloss it will be lighter).

So next time i need to finish with dark grey, decals, panel lining, gloss, etc)

Gray zone - will be under dark gray.

Gof-oVDMH8k.jpg

And quick fotoshop with dark grey zone. But it will be closer to black i think in final result

Here's my current build, the USS Sprite, NCC-1828. Set post TOS but pre-TMP, she is a Hopper class frigate, kitbashed from the /2500 Shenzhou and Enterprise kits. Her revised scale is 1/1000.

I like the colors SunDuk! Clean finish too.

Nice mods Thom! Cool way to get an obscure vessel.

Joscasle, that Tomcat is looking awesome! Great finishing details are going into your build! - MT

That's coming along real nicely.

I'd give the decals a light dusting with grey to tie them in with your beautiful weathering.

Yep, that's the next step when  I finish the decaling.

Need to be done in a very lightly way!

Looking good Thom. Over here decals are 100% done on the drive section, engines are painted and together and gloss coat is going on before I decal the engines later today. I switched to cheaper gloss coat from Home Depot instead of Tamiya... I just can't afford it anymore. Nothing bad to report so far.. Just gotta spray it carefully, it's much easier to lay down to much if you're not quick.

Interesting...last I checked, Rustoleum couldn't be used on plastic as it would craze and melt it. Now they have a version that can?

Posted (edited)

Pengbuzz, Rustoleum for metal is hot towards plastics. This stuff is great. I use the primer for most of my models.

Cool Thom and Derex! Looking good! This place is starting to look like the Starship Modeller's Boards:D

Its slow going, but you can see the helical drive from last posts at the bottom and the bolt it drives above it. The backplate will hold everything and the semicircular part is where the caps will feed around. The round milled piece (on top of double sided duct tape) will be cut in half to also be part of the cap feedway. It will all eventually come together. - MT

Well....as per usual, things were going a little toooo smoothly..LOL. I jinxed myself thinking "Oh, I'll be able to finish up the Ent C today!" Yeeeh.... right.  So I can't actually tell you what happened, but I think I need to press PAUSE on that new Home Depot Gloss clear coat over Tamiya Acrylics.  Lacquer Tamiya TS sprays aren't affected at all by it. However the blue for the warp nacelles was airbrushed Tamiya Acrylic Sky Blue.  After I brought it in from the garage I noticed it looked like I had lightly misted grey over the blue somehow. Now the blue was painted 7 days ago and not touched until today when I hit with the Gloss coat, so I'm assuming some kind of funky chemical reaction happened to the Tamiya Acrylic when the gloss coat was applied.  You can actually  see it in the picture above on the left one.  Anyways, ok, whatever, remask and respray the blue, no biggie. Did that, then went to decaling. No, I didn't seal the blue this time, because I didn't want a repeat of that. So the top engine decals were a little to big and the extra film folded down onto the blue Tamiya later in the afternoon and stuck down without me seeing it happen. UHHGGG. So now I've scraped off the excess decal and will now have to RE-MASK and RE-SPRAY the blue for the nacelles a 3RD EFFING TIME. But not today. I'm out. :help:.

P.S. The warp engine decals for the C are by far the hardest yet. Uhhgg... Hindsight being 20/20 I should have cut them into a million little itty bitty bits and trimmed them all to fit but for F*CKS sake, you don't KNOW that they aren't going to fit and lay down right until you have them on the fracking model and then it's to late!

Sorry...rant mode OFF. :diablo:
