Painted, and snapped together..that took like all of 2 hours. LOL. Now to disassemble most of it and mask off the the different colored panels.. I almost wanna buy another whole kit for another "Turbo Laser Death Star Tower" so I can have 2!!!

Love those little A-Wing kits, they're beautiful. And I did get two, I'll probably get a third soon. :) But yeah. Definitely not 1/72. The pilot's basically got a 1/60 torso, 1/72 arms, and 1/48 legs. :p And the turrets are better used with Bandai's upcoming mini kits of the ships, since they're way too small.

One feature did frustrate me a bit though. While I can't fault Bandai for being accurate, the two little black hose pieces on the back panel were absolutely microscopic, and I couldn't press them into place without snapping them in half. I just left them off.

First Bandai experience NZEOD? If so, I totally feel your pain, as do a number of Bandai veterans.

yep... went better on the second one tonight.

wel.. that sounds like you're in a pickle of a situation! so please tell why is a hammer an option in this case? Is the VF-31 kit that bad?

just a pain in the A to get it all sitting tightly in Fighter mode and mounted on the wall into the display case.

Whats laying on my bench? An "assembled" Bandai VF-31 and a Hammer... I'm torn between which to reach for

I've given up on transforming kits. Not worth the pain and suffering after experiencing the old Bandai variable kits in the 90's and the new VF-25 and the VF-1A/S.

That's coming together really nice. It looks super rugged... like it could survive a nuclear blast at ground zero, rugged.

Thanks! I don't think it would survive a nuclear anything, but it's water-resistant to about a thousand feet... Assuming someone were to actually dive with it. It will look even better, thanks to your instrumental help with the strap. Now I just need to get the color right: first test is a bit too "cool" for my taste.

 1000 ft???... That's 29.5 atmospheres (Yes, I did look that up... ^_^); That's nuts, awesome but nuts... awesomely nuts?.. :).. Deep sea commercial divers take note, the wristwatch of your dreams is about to be made real.

Thanks for the props, but you did all the groundwork, I just translated it to 3D and had the 250 grow it; It was my pleasure to participate, even in a small way, in this project.

How do the straps look next to the watch case? If you can get it to match the color of one those components to tie it all together, or alternatively offer a stark contrast to them as an intentional visual break (related in palette, but distinct and subdued) to drive the wearer's focus to the watch itself... could work.

300m water-resistance is pretty run-of-the-mill for luxury (dive) watches. My Omega is rated to 600m and there are watches by Rolex, Breitling and others that will exceed 2000m (yes, 2 kilometers!) It's all rather pointless beyond 300 though, but I guess it does bring some people comfort knowing that as their lungs are being crushed and they quite literally implode, their watch will keep on ticking.

Don't underestimate the work you did, I certainly don't. Many of the everyday things we take for granted were made possible by the cooperation of different skill-sets, different industries, and different ways of thinking that are generally misunderstood by their peers. Many times, the only thing differentiating a genius from a crackpot is success!

My goal is to have three basic dial colors for that watch model: black, navy and gray. The strap doesn't need to match the color of the case, but rather be color-coordinated with the dial and inner bezel. The sample straps don't have to be perfect, just reasonably close. Problem is that the rubber I use (Smooth-On Vytaflex) is a grayish translucent amber, so it already has a slight effect on the coloring. Also, the pigment additives are challenging to mix properly because they're so concentrated, and a single drop too much or too little can create a marked color difference.

You'll see what I mean when I do the full reveal next week... Barring any mishaps.

These Are VERY exciting, Cap! I'm sure it's crazy premature but I'd love to know what these will be selling for. I've never owned a nice watch but would love to support you on this endeavour.

Hi Micky, I'm shooting for about $4500 CAD/$3500 USD. Right now I'm just tweaking the minute details here and there to make sure that it's the best that it can be. It would normally be closer to 10K, but since I cut-out the middle-men and offer them directly I can be more competitive.

Next up.... some proper vintage Macross nostalgia! I have a bit of a history with this kit.. built my first one back in 85 or 86 on spring break at my grandparents house when I was 10 or 11. Kept it for years and it fought several wars and amassed much battle damage. Mom threw it away a few years ago along with all my other teenage kits that I had done.. grrr..

Bought another one from a guy on another forum a year or so ago, but he took my money and disappeared. Jack wagon. So here we are.. 3rd try and 30+ years later, let's see how it goes!

I loved Loved LOVED that kit when I was younger! With a bit of tinkering, it can still hold its own. Congratulations on your hard-fought acquisition! :D

That's true dedication!

About what scale is that?

Good luck with it. As they say, third time is the charm! I still have the parts of mine that I built as a kid, and bought another a few months ago. Happily it was one that had two in the box!

So if I ever go diving with the Capain's watch on, it's good to know it will live longer than I will at that depth! I can't purge my eardrums anyhow. But the watch and band looks great!

Great Corsair 505th!

Derex, the A wing looks great! Keep us posted on the SDF-1! I too built mine back in the 80's. Surprisingly, most of the pieces (emphasis on the pieces) survive on my son's shelf. I scored one on ebay for $50 and I'm waiting to build it "right" with lots of details. The Hasegawa kit looks nice, but that whole front end thing puts me off it. I think this is STILL the best injected kit of the TV version in cruiser mode. - MT

It is. Fact. If Hasagawa did a new TV version, I'd be first in line. I really thought about not building this after getting the Megahouse one a few months ago, but the inner kid in me won out as I really want to see how good I can make this look now that I have a little bit of skill!

You guys get the sneak-peek before the official release.

Beautiful. May I call it, The Zaku? Or maybe Scopedog?

Nice progress on the Macross. I'd almost be tempted to build her as a Zentradi gunboat just to showcase the difference.

I have the two new released versions, the TV and Movie version (the TV version needing some work) as well as two of the one your building, and thought of building them as escort ships to the larger ones.

that is gorgeous! love the Corsair! :o:wub:

And thanks! It was great finally getting her done. I actually have a 1/48 Dinah on the table now, just waiting for a trip to get paint before getting started.

Tonights mission... tackling the hairspray chipping technique

One Wave Tomahawk undercoated in Tamiya gray primer > Tamiya X1 Black > Alclad II Magnesium > Long Life (kiwi version Future) > Hairspray... up to this point now.

Next it a coat of XF-26 Deep Green > 2.5mm hex mask > XF-21 Sky Deep Green > 5mm hex mask > Custom mixed Medium Green > 10mm hex mask > XF-69 NATO Black...

then... while sweating at least a little... I pull up the masking hoping like hell the paint all stays down > then hit it with a wet tooth brush focusing on the feet and lower legs then the edging everywhere

Posted

And the Deep Green layer is down.

Guess we all hit the workshop this weekend!

I managed to hook up my Nupetiet with its own base.

Still need to find flexible tubing to hide the wires.
