PetarB Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I've always liked his ship. What scale is that, roughly? I know Revell likes their 'box scale', to the detriment of us scale purists! Quote
cwmodels Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Not exactly WIP but don't feel like starting a new thread since I haven't got enough photos for it yet. But here's the completed SV-51. The kit was finished 10 minutes before I had to leave for a show and it took Gold for the Science Fiction and Real Space Vehicles category at Modelpalooza 2011. My YF-21 was also there but not entered into competition and is on display only. Forgot to bring my own camera so photos are courtesy of my friend David Heiselt. Quote
Reïvaj Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Hey, cwmodels, that's not lying on your workbench at all!!! Congratulations for your great job and thanks for sharing! Quote
Mechleader Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Hi 1 would say its 1/32 or 1/48th scale. Not happy with Revell. They are very plain and a bit simple. Got spoiled with Fine Molds and Hase. Quote
Urashiman Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 aw man ... reminds me to finish my SV-51 nora :0 Quote
Chronocidal Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 (edited) Hi 1 would say its 1/32 or 1/48th scale. Not happy with Revell. They are very plain and a bit simple. Got spoiled with Fine Molds and Hase. I'm guessing this is one of those pre-painted kits? I picked up Anakin's ship and the ARC-170, and they aren't terrible (very good representations of the ships really), but Star Wars kits have always been notorious for bad/inaccurate/nonexistant scaling. I think part of the problem is that most stuff in the SW universe is just really small by real aircraft standards, similar in size to WWII aircraft (or in the A-wing's case, homebuilts ). In order to get a decent sized model in a common scale, it generally turns out to be either really small, or really big. Best example of this is the Episode I Ertl kits.. the N-1 is a tiny ship, and droid fighters are even smaller.. but by insisting they be made in 1/48, they doomed themselves to produce ships with absolutely no presence on a shelf. The Fine Molds X-Wing is a beautiful thing, but even 1/48 is a bit small for it. I'd really love to get a full line of ships in 1/32, but they'd probably be horribly expensive. The Ertl special edition X-Wing kit was close to that scale, but it needs half the parts thrown out for being absolute trash. I'm hoping to rebuild the one I got someday, but it might be easier to make one from scratch than fix what's wrong with that kit. Given how flat most of the X-Wing's fuselage is, it really wouldn't be that bad to make out of sheet styrene, then the rest of the pieces are all tubes and wings. Mechleader Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Yes it is the pre painted kit but I went and repainted it to correct color. I just really liked this ship in the film and wanted a model version. Agreed but with so many different scales for them movies I gues it is hard to keep it all on track. I do think that the 1/48th FM X-Wing looks a bit stubby. Quote
derex3592 Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 (edited) Finemolds 1:144 Falcon complete. Learned a LOT on this model...didn't use any decals, all colored panels were masked off and painted, also used photoetch parts for the exhaust grills...devils in the details..photos really don't do it justice. Overall, I am happy with how it turned out. I would do some things differently however if I built another one.. Edited October 9, 2011 by derex3592 Quote
derex3592 Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 (edited) and on that note...picked up these at Star Wars Fan Days that I was working at yesterday, guy was selling em half off..got all 4 for $60. Should keep me busy for a good while. Edited October 9, 2011 by derex3592 Quote

Model-Junkie Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Apropos. I heard it crashed... The plane that crashed last week was a JH-7, not the J-20 Quote
505thAirborne Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Nice Galactica so far electric indigo!! Are you doing a standard clean build or will this one include a lighting kit or even battle damaged? Just curious as I ordered another BSG and was considering lighting mine up, I converted my 1st one into FTL mode with the landing pods retracted. Quote
electric indigo Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I want to do a standart build with no upgrade parts or aftermarket decals and see how far I get. The paintjob will make or break the model. The only kit I ever considered lighting is the upcoming Blade Runner Spinner. Do you have pics of your Galactica in FTL mode? Quote
505thAirborne Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Heres a few shots of the Galactica with pods retracted, theres a few gaps to still fill in and you basically have to cut a lot of plastic out from the kit so they'll fit, but looks awesome, just think the Adama Maneuver! Also thats Adama's Valkyrie Battlestar, not the greatest resin kit, but its pretty good, wish it cam with the right decals. Quote
505thAirborne Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 It pays to be a good long time customer, I may not live in L.A. anymore but my old Hobby shop still treats me right, Initially I only ordered the MK-VII Viper and another Galactica kit. When UPS came today the box looked awfully big, when I opened it there was a VIPER MKII included, the kit was delivered to the Hobby shop all bashed up and they wrote it off as a loss and was considered a "Throw away, in the trash item". Instead a free bonus gift!!!! The box isn't pretty but the model is all intact in its plastic baggies! Now I just need my lighting kit and complete this new BSG. Quote

505thAirborne Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 (edited) Hey big F, you sure don't see it much these days so if you have a good connection stick with it. Still have some details, damage & clear coat to add, but heres the bonus MKII I received. Edited October 24, 2011 by 505thAirborne Quote

Excellent work. Quote
talon1138 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Love the work everyone. I'm jealous. Derex, did the Falcon kit come with that acrylic display stand? If not, where can I get those? Quote
derex3592 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the compliments guys! The stand is a "flightpose" stand. There is a discussion thread over in the "Toys" section about the tips taking of paint on Yamato Valks, but I have never had a problem. They are great for displaying models also. They come in 3 different stand lengths, so buy a lot because to get really cool poses---you will need different length legs on one stand. flightpose.com Edited October 25, 2011 by derex3592 Quote

Smegalot Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Been a while since I put anything up, and have been busy, but this is how far I am with my VF-0S not long till hopefully done. I know that I have screwed up a bit, and not up to the level of the other guys here. But it is the first build I have done in about 2 years, and it is like learning all over again Quote
