Thanks @Chas! Yeah, the CA can get pretty messy. I use a toothpic sometimes for application, and sometimes clear gloss or Micro Kristal Klear if I want a longer setting time. And that conversion to the TV-version Macross is looking great! Shame Hasegawa barely made any changes to the kit when they reboxed it.

Thanks @Papa Rat! What plane are you waiting on?

I‘m waiting in this one. Only $13 so what the hell.

May the Inferno of your anger reforge a new and fierce determination to overcome the dreaded plastic beast - and turn it into your docile plaything!

I appreciate the sentiment Thom, but there is literally nothing left of the Legioss now. It is in the trash, out in the dumpster, and my new rule is no models molded before 1995. The plastic is just too fragile nowadays.

Nice work Thom! It looks really good to me ( I usually get super glue all over the place whe I use PE.

So I take it you're not gonna have any pilots in there?

I started a project I wasn't  planning to work on till summer break, but because of some recent posts in the 'Look at This Really Cool Model Build' thread I got a little itchy to start.

Pics speak for themselves.

The proportions of the Hase. Kit are a little off for the TV SDF, but it's not that bad. The guns you see on the side are just placed there for figuring out placement.

My initial detailing of the curved cut out was way out of scale so I scrapped it and tried again. 2'nd attempt is much better, but we'll  see if it stays or If I try for a 3rd time.

20250427_112812.jpg.84ead98e9f0cfb2f195533bad84f0f27.jpg20250427_135425.jpg.84b557f9dc813f8b9fd1ba7c64627fa4.jpg

The paint guide on this has got to be wrong. The instructions say that the 'blue' is a mix of 55% light grey (fs36495) 40% Aircraft Grey ( Mr.Hobby 73) and  Mr color CR3 ( primary yellow). I can't  for the life of me figure out how a 95% light grey with 5% yellow is gonna blend out the the dark blue they show on the box.

Granted I've never used( or heard of) the Mr.Hobby CR line, but apparently there are 3 primary colors: magenta, Cyan and yellow, meant for adding to other colors to tint/shade and blend your own.

Regardless of that I gotta think there's a misprint somewhere 'cus grey and yellow ain't  gonna turn into the dark blue they show.

So I guess I'll just have to eyeball it and come up with my own mix.

I went through much of this when I redid my Matchbox SDF-1; I disregarded Hasegawa's paint suggestions, as they didn't look right to me.

One other thing I would suggest paintwise is to decide at what point in time you decide to show the ship. I chose around just after launch day, as the later appearance would have looked more weathered and faded to me.

I also noticed their storm attacker version looked closer to the TV version than their cruiser version did; if they weren't as rare as they are, I'd have suggested using parts from that for the cruiser.

@nightmareB4macross That will make a COOL diorama!

@Thom GREAT cockpit detail! I'm glad to see a little known airframe get some love!

@Chas Your updates are looking GOOD! I don't know the physical difference between the two (I haven't seen Hasegawa's in person), but I believe the most accurate SDF-1 is still the good ole Arii kit, and it could save you A LOT of hassle:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/256534032075?_skw=sdf-1+macross&itmmeta=01JSY5XY2NVEGNBSNP5MRHMR0F&hash=item3bba9eaecb:g:owYAAOSwGvRmX3Ch&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA8FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1c08UQTF0BSNandJSTeHQm7GfXKteB94MlA2SxKaFA72So0xVghBq5EjMQcjN94Y4XIeHn7A3JaPyTk3wrTszXaYsRYBmrt4GzRikbL4OfLrHGb%2FtuvnXWTg7GBjdE54zQqOs%2FnQGxX5nncTkx2H5vn4ukBAZC8k5K7ropAb1ewtBuQbspynLWWgZXR1EQejyaPPLPUAdtxccdOgFgrfBZCZX3y%2Fhqa6rICZ61%2BFDAWaLxyq8PHt8hcO1qevRFrrt1xm2M%2FDL2eDPhGBtC5UcqF09Gx6TH8QBH8hGLSikYhqw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR77h98XPZQ

They're so inexpensive now, thanks to Wise Guys, (if you guys haven't shopped their ebay or web site, you're missing out) you can save a lot of trouble. I almost thought of using Hase's Daedalus and Promethius on the old Arii kit, but I don't know how far off they are. It would be nice to have the small vehicles that come with the Hasegawa kit - if they're to scale. - MT

MT: just to let you know: some members are having issues with wiseguy hobbies filling their orders. If anyone does order from them, they should stick with the ebay store for now:

Well, more as incentive for other projects. May they be successes!

Nice job Greg!

One thing though, it doesn't  look like there's  any colour on her mouth which makes it kinda disappear.

Really  great job on the details of her coveralls. The zippers and badges in particular.

Hey, you're right! I overlooked that detail. Thanks!

@pengbuzz Thanks for the head's up Pengbuzz! Oh no! We finally "get back" a good stock of classic anime models and their company is not looking good. I've bought from them about three times now and no problem. I hope they're not folding 😕

@SteveTheFish Nice and clean paint! She looks good, especially with the patches as Chas said. - MT

The 1/100 scale ARII VF-1D

I’m already pumped on this little kit. It’s going to require way less putty than I had anticipated. Also the fit is loose enough that alignment will be easy peasy!

Is there any sort of source material page on this site for reference. I want to add some missing detail/parts and have a better look at color schemes so I can plan my modifications and painting? The included instructions are well…rough. lol
