nightmareB4macross Posted Thursday at 03:34 AM Posted Thursday at 03:34 AM Damn, that looks great. Almost as good as me. 🤣 1 hour ago, Papa Rat said: Slap on some paint and call it good. Why bother with panel lines or top coat? This hunk of plastic couldn’t care less about that fancy stuff. I love you new/old RX78-2. You are the best chunky buddy and will forever grace my bench as I approach the end of my first year in building model kits, dolls, toy things. 🤪 Quote

pengbuzz Posted Thursday at 06:49 AM Posted Thursday at 06:49 AM (edited) UPDATE: Waiting on hinges for this one; they should be here by Saturday: I have a transforming toy coming in that I have identified a working set of hinge joints that should serve the intended purpose in this build (ebay find, poorer than poor price). After installation, it's then on to painting, decaling and superdetailing. Stay tuned. Edited Thursday at 06:51 AM by pengbuzz Quote
MechTech Posted Thursday at 12:35 PM Posted Thursday at 12:35 PM (edited) Thank you guys! This project is fun and stretching my knowledge of some of the arts. @derex3592 Your new bench looks cool! Not OCD though, just healthy!😁This is OCD (not mine): @Papa Rat Great finish to a new-old model kit! @electric indigo That GP04 is looking good! Are you doing anything extra, or building for fun? @nightmareB4macross The lines on that Valk just look right! MORE accurate lines than the original Chunky Monkey it was. You've become the Weight Watchers of Valks!😅 @pengbuzz I look forward to see what you do! Somebody actually brought one of those into our meeting this month (no hinges though). - MT Edited Thursday at 12:37 PM by MechTech Quote
electric indigo Posted Thursday at 02:06 PM Posted Thursday at 02:06 PM We have legs. @MechTech The kit is pretty great, so you can keep the build simple. What bothered me the most (and actually kept me from buying at the original release date) was the weird look of the legs/feet. I identified the oversized ankle guards as the culprit and installed much smaller versions from a resin kit on my GP04. I also gave the knee vents more definition. Quote
nightmareB4macross Posted yesterday at 05:12 PM Posted yesterday at 05:12 PM Just a few pics for comparison. Please note: VF in the forefront has been slightly modified. 🤭 Quote

MechTech Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago @electric indigo Your changes to the legs DO look better! @nightmareB4macross SLIGHTLY! That's an understatement! Is that an old Yammie that you've shotgunned!? Nice work! I hope you felt batter after cutting out all that plastic!😁 - MT Quote

Thom Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Going to be great @pengbuzz! I'm guessing the original idea didn't work out..? @nightmareB4macross Love seeing models with the panels cut out. Looking good! Quote

I even added engines to the legs and sliders to the hands so they can expand and compound into the forearms with ease, amongst other modifications. Upgrade hands from an old Gundam kit. Quote

To be honest with you, the process was a bit daunting and painful as all the cuts are done with a dull exacto to keep control over contours and minimize any over cuts. Quote
Papa Rat Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago (edited) @nightmareB4macross Nonsensical or not I’m blown away. What a cool concept and execution. 👍 A dull blade is asking for a bad cut but I get the reasoning. It must have taken forever to get it to where it is today. Edited 18 hours ago by Papa Rat Quote

You might say that; the material on the wings broke when I tried making my own. Also, the weight of the wings needs something a lot sturdier than I can make to keep them in their positions. I still stand by the baffle mod I made, it's just the hinge itself needs a better material. It should look just fine when done. (I hope) Quote
