Sometimes the strangest things show up at the bench. This was my dessert after dinner. Ice cream would have been nice, but you work with what ya got. This was such a fun chunk of a build.  I’m excited to paint this sucker.
It was cool that the instructions included comparisons between the OG release and all the new technologies that went into this “revival” version. A lot has changed in 45 years.

I'm sometimes working on this Dirty Pair garage kit I bought at Wonder Festival in Chiba about 10 years ago. The last time I touched this was in 2021 I think. Now I've done a dry fit to test it out. Just using pins and blue tack to keep it together.

The guy who made this kit also made other Lovely Angel kits, as well as Zentraedi and Meltrandi fleet ships. He introduced me to the head of Studio Nue... I forget his name because I am apparently not a big enough fan. IIRC, I think he told me that Kei's character was sort of inspired by his wife. Don't quote me on that.

I had white color left over in my airbrush, so I drenched the VF-9 test print in it (after a shoddy priming).

@Papa Rat Revival? That looks like the original mold (which they are still popping out of after 40 years). I've see a couple of Bandai tour vids and they love to show that off.

@nightmareB4macross The photo of the legs with all the guts reminds me of the original line art showing the internal components.

@Urashiman That's not bad for a test - or a cheap airbrush!

 

The original cannon has very limited detail on it. So I added lots more. Besides cutting out the vents in the side (from last week's post), I added bolt heads to all the empty sockets that they molded in. Kinda weird they did that.

I scribed some details and added lots of other bits to it including various vents. There were so many changes, I circled them all. If not for you guys, then for my records to remember what the heck I did.

Then I custom made the round plate(s) on the mill. I thought it was a nice touch to an empty space after doing some test fits. Both sides have the same details.

Yeah that revival kit is in the entry grade series and part of their 45th anniversary. It’s priced right too at around $10. The design has been completely reworked while the proportions and basic appearance have remained the same. The seam line placement was thought out so they aren’t visibale from the front along with many other QOL improvements over the original. A very fun 20 minute build while on the couch. Just need to give it a proper paint job or maybe something wild?
 

Now onto your project. Wow!!! That is some outstanding work. This is why I love creeping around this forum. You and many others are flexing your amazing skills and it’s so inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing.

It’s one of the oddest recent releases from Bandai. Basically a brand new kit to have the feel and look of the very first kit

I did a few quick manual brushes with citadel colours and liquid chrome. Nothing too fancy, so it doesn’t sit around as horrible…

This desk checks every one of my OCD boxes so far!!! 😁 Started unpacking ALL my completed models this week and will now begin to start gluing back on small parts that came off so I can get everything back on display soon!

Take the bench outside when it’s nice out and spray on some crappy rust-oleum primer and see how it goes.

@MechTech & @Papa Rat btw: thanks. I often test around with test prints to see how color or specific glue is holding to them. Except for the bumps, I think I've got the proper primer and color now for properly doing paintjobs on resin prints.

The magnets are doing a great job of keeping the legs connected. So much weight has been added to this 1/55 due to so many modifications.

But still, there is more to do.
