I built that several years back. It looks clunky when built. The Arii kits have better surface detail, better decals, and employ polycaps. Imai kits lack surface detail so they make up for this with decals, and the joints are just plastic on plastic. However, Imai kits have overall better proportions. I like how Arii provides the "nose art" decals for their Destroids. Arii ones are just clunky-looking and are awkwardly-proportioned.

Lol. Yes it does look clunky. And the legs are way too short. I was looking at a picture of it finished and thinking, gee this thing is ugly. I'll have to post a picture of it next to the Moscato 1/72, once i build this 1/100.

@Papa Rat That Engage came out great. Most people won't imagine how tiny & fiddly this kit is,

Hey, thanks. Tiny and fiddly fits the bill, but still ended up being a fun kit to build. Might need to take on the IMS version sometime. 🤔

1/144 wave SR1 Engage coming to a close. I think it came out OK. I’m having the worst time with dust and debris in my paint. Really annoying when going for high gloss look.
Anyway, this build just needs a few decals and then it’s time to finish up that Hasegawa Regult that has been sitting in its box primed and ready for paint. Feels good to be building again.

Looks great!  im working on a 1/100 junchoon now,  i have no idea why these wave kits are so expensive....the tooling  is awful, giant gaps and warped edges.  I have a full boomerang kit too...i hope that ones better.

the 1/144 SR1 had a great fit, no gaps and very little seam removal needed. I am curious about the 1/100 wave releases but like you said, there are $$$ so I haven’t jumping in yet.

I’d love to see your build when you finish.

The older wave kits have some big issues as far as fit . They’re much older kits, I’d recommend the Volks versions whenever possible

I’m on a roll. Been sick for a few days so why not. My first space chicken is coming to a close. I want to slap a matte finish on it and call it good. Such a fun one I think I need to do another. Thinking the Scout version.
Also thanks @Big s for the lens hack idea. It worked out great in the end.

The intake covers are nice and flush with new intakes roughed in.

Chest can finally lock down in fighter mode. Will reshape the side profile just a bit to mesh everything from front to back together properly.

:p

I like her Peng, progress looks good!

Thanks Thom. I started this one after my visit to the ER the other day (CT and MRI scans ╪ fun) . She doesn't stand very well on her own, so I plan on doing a base for her that resembles the platform she performed on on the Macross bridge. The one she was photographed on doesn't work well for her, and it broke shortly after the photo shoot. I still need to detail her face and stuff.

Getting down to business on the VSMS Daccas. Going to try out some new paints on the abdomen which calls out for a black chrome. Very excited!

This will be my first go with Alclad. For those with experience, is there anything I should consider when spraying it?

Alclad goes on very easily and looks amazing, but can rub off with a little touch. I tend to only use it on parts that I’ll never handle, like the back of lenses. They do make aqua clear that can seal the paint to make it more durable, but it will lose some of the shine. Other top coats can totally ruin it. Just be aware of its limitations and how to use it.

Thanks. I had no idea it was so delicate. I guess it’s time to order that aqua clear.

It’s mainly because it’s not really a true lacquer. There are some chrome paints that are far more durable, but they can be pricey

I do have to say the Alclad gloss black looks beautiful. It does smell like enamel though. 🤔

Regardless I’m liking how it went on in one shot.

That’s mainly because they require a gloss black enamel base coat to work

Yeah I had no clue. This is a surprise to me since they are labeled lacquer. Anyway, hope it works out.

I think the only big issue is durability, and the aqua clear should help, just make sure to test it first because it does take away some shine, but not a lot. Save some sprie
