pengbuzz
Okay, time to get to some other folks' posts that I'd been meaning to compliment them on!: On 5/25/2024 at 2:00 AM, Urashiman said: It‘s a clear part. There is a decal for the blue on the decal sheet, but I painted it with revell clear blue. edit: and done NICE!!! Really sweet job on that build @Urashiman!!! Looks like it just stepped right out of the anime!!! I'd love to get a kit of the 1J and the 1S (when it comes out!) and see how I do on them! My goal is to be able to see it at a glance and people say “hey, that’s the Valkyrie I used to have as a kid!” But when they look at closer it is but at the same time it isn’t. Just my humble take on an update. Much love for this old 1/55. Really liking where you're taking this one, @nightmareB4macross!! I tired something similar back in the late 90's/ early 2000's, but it never looked right to me. I gave up when the Yamato VF-1 1/48 came out and just got one of those (before it was lost in storage when my jerk brother didn't pay on it! 😠 grrr! ). The flaps caught my attention; I'm floored that you're doing them (in a good way!)!!! On 6/9/2024 at 7:02 AM, arbit said: My own CM's Guld! It was a fairly close match to be honest; it just needed some work. 12 hours ago, Thom said: @pengbuzz So that's what happened to Conan!? Some very good mods to that figure, Peng Yup!!! Thanks Thom; still working on the whee rims though. I did decide to take a look to see if I could find better rims in this scale, but nothing that would work was available. Mag wheels with 7 spoke configuration didn't show up, so I'm trying to work these to where they look good. They're not symmetrical, even though I used a drawn diagram (something shifted during gluing I think). I'm going to see if I can somehow correct that by sanding and using a template to try to locate the uneveness. They do have a 3D print version of the model for 6 bucks, but I don't think I can print just the wheel rims and I also am not sure how to scale it for 1/12. I'd also like to be able to use the rubber tires I have now; the #D print ones look solid. (not to mention the figure wiped me out ) Anyhoo, refining the model, superdetailing and windshield installation coming up. I may also do a diorama for this, and possibly Jesse's Control/ Support at base, Norman Tuttle. Stay tuned... SteveTheFish
I changed the color of the sensor lens on the Scout Regult from blue to red. Looks nicer. The Missile Regult was finished last fall, but I realized that the upper legs were on backwards, so I had to take the legs apart and switch the parts. I think the Scout is pretty much done. I'm not quite done yet with the Bandai/Imai Q-Rau. Actually I painted the eye area the same gray/white since taking this picture. I had taken a mold of the eye, drilled out the lens area, put the mold back on and backfilled it with clear, UV resin and painted it red. I'll see about taking a close-up pic later. I had articulated the hips with ball joints to have the mecha pose more naturally. As for the Millia Armored Valk, the head, shoulders, waist, and hips are ball joints. Unfortunately, the shoulder ball joints stick out to far. Be honest: it looks weird, right? I'm thinking I might try to pop the ball joints out of the sockets, perhaps cut off the plastic from the ball joints and replace it with metal, and try over. What do you think? Other than that, it has turned out nicely. The Yellow Submarine hands look so much nicer than the hamfists the kit came with. I used the leftover paint mix from the Hasegawa version for the armor color. The only surviving decal I used from the Imai kit was the hammer/torch insignia that goes on the pelvis. The rest were unusable and discarded. The 1:72 Hasegawa kit comes with many unused decals which is quite fortuitous, since they are smaller and in-scale with the 1:100 Imai kit. The VF on the left leg, the Ichijou vernier decals, the ground UN Spacy logo, the 303 decal, and the decals on the tops of the hips are all extras from the Hasegawa kit. It's like Hasegawa had people like me in mind and threw us a bone with all the leftover decals. The rest are generic, random aftermarket science fictiony decals and the UN Spacy logo for the sides of the waist (close to the cockpit on the sides) and on the top left wing are aftermarket decals from eBay/China. The same for the "UN SPACY" lettering on the bottom of the right leg. Panel lining was done with a Gundam Real Touch Marker dark gray (practically black). I want to do a little bit of weathering on these before I consider them complete. Advice on what to do with the silly-looking arm joints would be appreciated. But engraving panel lines is above my skill level on organic surfaces, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. So I go the easy route and extrude details. On a hard-surface model, panel lines are much easier.
arbit
Quick tip for thinning Mr. Hobby Primer Surfacer. I made a mistake and thinned it with isopropyl alcohol, which turned it to goo. Instead of throwing it out, I added half again an amount of lacquer thinner, which fixed the goo, and thinned it out for a clean spray. Results below. I'm sure you can find a good joint system for your needs.

nightmareB4macross
Actually, I thought about them but they don’t show up in the line art. It wouldn’t have been hard to add them in but they’re just not there. These details began to appear in Master Files books and Hasegawa kits so while they could have been there sooner I think I’d rather leave these out. 😉
Chronocidal
Hah, fair enough! I can't imagine they'd be "easy" to implement either, since the wings aren't nearly as thick as an F-14's.

Using 1.2 mm rod makes it possible. Plus the way these trailing flaps are made they allow parts to move without issue. Who knows, maybe one day I might do this for a 1/48. And check, in 2011.
