derex3592 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Primary painting done on the Superhornet. It's hard to tell in the pics but the blotchy under pattern juuuust shows through. Took my time to try to get it juuuust right. The resin after market pilots literally dropped in like they were made for the model! No chopping of feet, legs or butts! 😁 I got them painted up pretty good for 1/72. Pretty happy with this build so far.... BUT.... the now DREADED Academy decals are coming up.... Uhhhgggg..... Which is sad because decaling is usually really fun for me. We shall see... Quote

wm cheng Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Looking great @derex3592 - wow really nice riveting on that wing especially for 1/72 scale! Where does people get those black foam inserts that you cut up to block up the intakes or landing gear wells? Quote
pengbuzz Posted February 26 Posted February 26 UPDATE: working on the Pilot/ Co-Pilot Flight Console: With main body on: Once I have this sorted out, then I can begin the front seats and the figures of Hawk and Santini, as well as whatever will be seen of the EEDC (where Santini sits in back). Then I have to sort out making the canopy (oh, joy. ). Stay tuned... Airwolf will be back in a moment (or several)... Quote
MechTech Posted February 26 Posted February 26 ALCON - I just posted photos from this past weekend Old Dominion Open Show: @derex3592 That Super Hornet is looking Super so far! @pengbuzz You're gonna make the network sorry they cancelled that show! - MT Quote

Extra "plucking foam" from Pelican cases. We have quite a bit of it lying around. Quote
wm cheng Posted February 27 Posted February 27 It's weird that everyone I see seems to be using the same kind of small celled black foam but where are they buying it from? I don't have this stuff laying around (Pelican case foam is rare if you don't have Pelican cases :P) - I don't see it for sale anywhere (other than very expensive Pelican cases). Quote
pengbuzz Posted February 27 Posted February 27 21 hours ago, MechTech said: @pengbuzz You're gonna make the network sorry they cancelled that show! - MT there's that! On that note: UPDATE: Got the seats scratched up and fitted in. Even following the plans, they look a little tight together (too close) as compared to the show. But I scaled them, and I only have so much room to work with. I doubt though folks will be looking too closely. At least she has a cockpit now; On now to the EDCC.... Stay tuned... Quote
MechTech Posted February 27 Posted February 27 @pengbuzz They STILL look great - and not too close together. The Bell 222 has side entry doors, so nobody's really going to go between them. - MT Quote
Thom Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Looking good @pengbuzz and I don't think anyone is going to take some calipers to it, so I'd say you are good there! Quote

And the info I have is that they used a Bell 222 body to shoot the internal scenes: (Andrew Probert, Airwolf Designer, sitting on the deck of the "Stage Lady") Maybe I'm estimating it wrong or something...I just want to get this one right. It's the dream of a lifetime. Quote
Big s Posted February 28 Posted February 28 The now you see it now you don’t picture may be a privacy screen leftover from when this was a basic civilian aircraft Quote
electric indigo Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Painting the Thunderjaw pieces. This will keep me busy for some time... Quote

It may just be me, but I want to get this to where it doesn't look like Santini is trying to do EDCC duties on a Tetris screen! lol Quote
MechTech Posted February 28 Posted February 28 @pengbuzz I see what you mean. Could it be that "anime magic" is also present in live action shows😕 - MT Quote

sketchley Posted February 29 Posted February 29 10 hours ago, MechTech said: @pengbuzz I see what you mean. Could it be that "anime magic" is also present in live action shows😕 - MT Yes. One of the more notable ones I know of is in Star Wars (Empire Strikes Back): the pilot of a snow speeder is 'cheated' (as written on the production drawings) to the left so that the over-the-shoulder camera sees more of the cockpit panels as well as outside the canopy. In other words, the actor was squeezed up against one side of the canopy to get the shot. It's highly likely that the same thing is happening with Airwolf, especially as they were produced around the same time. Quote

With that resolved, I'll just do what I can and fudge what needs to be fudged. Meantime, I need two 1/32 scale pilots for this; I'd rather just get a pair to modify than scratch them up ( hands and eyesight aren't what they used to me), but most now are way too expensive for me. Last time I tried this was quite a few years ago, and even then scratching them up was a pain and they didn't come out very well. Would anyone happen to have any spares? Quote
Kurt Posted February 29 Posted February 29 Paint applied. Added an oil dot filter last night. Next up is a little bit of chipping and the pin wash. Then on to the weathering. Quote
MechTech Posted February 29 Posted February 29 @pengbuzz I hate when they cheat - whoever they are!😁 How about these dudes? Chopper Pilots @Kurt Your paint is looking good! Don't chip it too much. A lot of those parts are actually composites. The good news is if it's going in a desert setting, it just needs a LOT of dust on it. Ours was ALWAYS dusty! Even the windshield! I probably ate as much dust as food over there - 😝 - MT Quote

Don't know if you've already considered them, but how about Colonial Viper pilots? The 1/32 Mark VII Vipers comes with a pilot and the helmet is similar to the Airwolf helmets, as in completely closed up like a biker helmet. If you need two, I got two. Thom Quote

VertexNebula Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I'm currently trying to get resin printed parts of my VB-6 Koenig Monster model to fit nicely together, but without luck. These are the sloppy results. Not too happy with it. Quote

These are the sloppy results. Not too happy with it. Maybe you are using auto supports? I can't really trust those. The model looks too complex to print in one part, or just a few parts. For example, I would want those legs to be several parts in order to support the print well enough to preserve the details and get a smooth finish. Another possible issue in the orientation and supports. We would need to see images of your supports to give you more feedback. Edited March 2 by arbit Quote
Urashiman Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 Okay, time for some workbench stuff again. I went to the hobby shop with the kid, and he found something that I had actually build in the mid 90s, but it was destroyed in the annual „strap ugly kits to fireworks to make space for new kits“ family ritual. My kid absolutely wanted this thing. I was reluctant to get it but hey. The kid demands, the kid receives. A Revell 1/72 Horton Go 229 I am pretty sure the updated the mold, because I found way better quality on this kit than I actually remember from building this thing the first time. The clamps were of good use again. I used the Chinese battery driven air brush again. It‘s so fast to color things with it. Then canopy masking and primer. Prior to priming this, the kid wanted it to have the classic red 13 camo pattern, but he liked the light grey of the primer so much, that he declared the plane to be finished. Build time: ~2hours. Man, third kit already done this year! I‘m on fire! Hahhaha I have to finish my other kits and the VF-9 project some day. The kid is currently eating time. Quote
Thom Posted March 2 Posted March 2 @VertexNebula Welcome! And a nice intro. Looks like a nice little kit, fitment notwithstanding. Any idea of scale? @pengbuzz Those will be in a shuttle flight heading out Monday from Caprica. They had a little too much RnR, so treat them gently. And by 'gently' I mean Drill Sergeant Gently! whip them into fine shape! And if you use the one with the bust one will be in even finer shape! @Urashiman Your Padewan has a nice eye for a pretty plane. And gray is good. I looked around a came actoss this... Or this... Glad he (and you) are having fun with it! Thom Quote
