MechTech Posted February 8 Posted February 8 @505thAirborne That is a GREAT looking Widow! I like the decal scheme you chose for it too! Too bad that plane never made production. @pengbuzz Cool! Time to put the Top Gun soundtrack on build again😁 - MT Quote
Thom Posted February 8 Posted February 8 That's a great looking Widow @505thAirborne. And I think I recall reading that the Black Widow marking on the belly was not approved. @pengbuzz Nice Tomcat-trio. Should look nice in a lineage line-up. Quote

I have a little touch up to do on the landing gear/wheels but overall, I'm calling it done. Wow! That's a beautiful finish. Nice work. This is my new take on Isamu's bike. I had to take a shot of my own, after @Xigfrid came out with his amazing work a few years ago. Quote
derex3592 Posted February 10 Posted February 10 @505thAirborne That Black Widow looks GREAT!!! 😁 Over here today I'm adding in some brown before I try thin coats of some greys for base color... Stay tuned. Quote
Chas Posted February 11 Posted February 11 @505thAirborne beautiful Black Widow. The decals really make it pop. @Rock What scale is that? Looks rather large I that pic. Love the look of it so far. @derex3592 get some base colours on that! Can't wait to see her all dressed up! Trying to figure out placement on the base for the Falcon and the 'roids 😉. The rocks I've got figured out and the placement of the Falcon here is approximate (will be a little more nose up in the end). Quote
electric indigo Posted February 12 Posted February 12 @Chas That's a nice set of asteroids you got there! For a change from scale modeling, I'm tinkering on the Moderoid Thunderjaw. The kit is great, but once you take a deep dive into the reference material, you can't find an end with the details. Paiting this behemoth will be quite an undertaking. Quote

MechTech Posted February 13 Posted February 13 @arbit Yeah, that's a great looking sculpt! @Rock Are you fixing surface flaws, or sculpt model? @Chas I NEVER thought I'd say that a plastic model looks good on 'roids, but there's a first time for everything!🤣 That is a REALLY COOL diorama! - MT Quote
Thom Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Nicely done @Chas! I can picture that in the asteroid chase scene! Quote

Chronocidal Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Really nice detail, on both the rocks and the ship. If you can get ahold of some of the 1/144 Ties Bandai makes, you could probably add a couple of them to the scene. They're a quick and easy build, and not so expensive you'd feel bad about melting one down to simulate it smashing face-first into one of the rocks. Quote

Exactly what I was thinking of doing at the start of the project, but could not find any of the TIE kits at reasonable cost. If I happen to get my hands on some in the future it would be a fairly easy addition. Quote

Thom Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Been a while since I posted an update. Got the cockpit done, though I don't see how I'm going to fit this into an F-14... Guess I'll just have to put it into the Me-410 fuselage instead... Thom Quote

Considering ether trying to find a new kit or scrapping it altogether. 😠 Quote
electric indigo Posted February 15 Posted February 15 (edited) @Thom is that the Meng kit? Looks like a good start. _ Today's heroic effort was a detail upgrade on the front of the head. Edited February 15 by electric indigo Quote
Thom Posted February 15 Posted February 15 (edited) Sorry you're hitting some trouble on one of the 'cats @pengbuzz. What's happening? @electric indigo No, this is the older ProModeller (Revellogram) kit, which I hear is still on-par with the newer Meng version. Before sanding out the interior for the PE, it did have some very good looking detail, and I'm thinking when (if) I do the other one I have I may try painting supplied details instead. Got the two ends of the cockpit, gunner/radioman's sections together this morn. Thom Edited February 15 by Thom Quote
MechTech Posted February 15 Posted February 15 @Thom Ha ha! I was thinking, "Since when does an F-14 have throttle quadrants and a jumpseat for the pilot!?"😁 BEAUTIFUL interior though! @pengbuzz Sorry to hear about your Tomcat woes! I KNOW you can work it out - you can do it! - MT Quote
Thom Posted February 15 Posted February 15 @MechTech thanks! I give 50% of the work up to the PE.😏 Quote

Urashiman Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 I felt a little daring and decided to purchase that 17.54€ airbrush thingy from temu. It is only 17.54€, so if it is not good, it won’t hurt. I purchased something advertised as a chargeable no wires attached air brush for modelling purposes. What I got was this: beauty airbrush system. Maybe because it is beautiful? Uhmm… no at least it is black. it has three cups, small, mid and large and it is a low quality single action airbrush. As soon as this is switched on, it blasts. it has three modes. Off, low power and full power. Full power almost „blasts“ at 2bars. Low power is around 1bar. it‘ll probably be good for really thin color. I will give it a try later, but I won’t get my hopes up. Hahaha Quote

Now I know why! thanks for posting that - I'll never get it out of my head! - MT It's crazy to consider, but the vast majority of the A-Wing filming models came from 1/32 scale kitbashes, primarily F-14s, and F-16s. The main body is slapped together from four upper wing-glove halves, while the engines are actually taken from the old 1/32 Hasegawa F-16 mold (I recognize the parts, since I have that kit). It doesn't always get translated into toys, but the reason why the engine tubes taper inwards is because they're made out of the intake ducting. The vent structure in the middle is just two intakes slapped together top-to-top. You can tell the canopy is actually something mounted backwards as well, due to the curvature. I think it's been speculated to be from either a P-47 or P-51, maybe something like an F-86. Edited February 16 by Chronocidal Quote
