Printing all that couldn't have been cheap.

It wasn’t, but they will be well worth it.

The guy who prints these is on FB and does these quite often in 1/10000.

He’s over at the Macross Modelers Chile group.

His stuff is pretty cool.

How much is that going for?

Custom 3D prints.

They’re being printed in 1/8000 as we speak.

Just using the picture as reference. These are 1/10000.

I, for one, would be very interested to acquire one or two of these... Does he print for commission?

Are you sure that is printed not resin cast? I dont see those print lines.

Nice little SDF-1 there. In many ways I like the look of those old molds better than the modern kits.  Any more pics?

Yes, they are printed. Good quality but you’ll see the plastics lines you’ll have to sand, and is tedious I’ll tell you.

I purchased one from one of the printing guys. I think they are about 2-3 guys who are producing them in Chile. The shipping can be a bit steep but not as expensive as some of the casts purchases from Australia.

The CGI masters seems to be a faithful copy of the Imai/Arii 1/20000 mini models from the 80’s, just way bigger..

They are definitely not copies of those kits, those were much more simplified. That's some devoted CAD modeling here.

These are definitely printed. The printer smooths them out as he takes extreme pride with his work. Here is a comparison of 1/8000 (right) and 1/10000 (left).

Really nice stuff here.

He also offers paint service if you just want to buy, open the box, and display.

I sent him a link to the MW registration so he can sign up.

Hopefully he chimes in.

Why wouldn’t you contact him o Facebook?

He does. In any scale you want.

Very interesting...

i think 1/8000 is a manageable scale for these. I have both forms of the Macross too, and the Elysion fits that scale as well.

it all looks great ppl :D

on my end i have way to many projects active at one time, so i need to, once in awhile

finish some of them.

long time ago i bought a Bandai PG 00 Raiser gundam.

i never intended to build the Raiser part.

since those parts make the kit way to heavy for any pose.

anyway here are some of the first painted parts.

Paint job is looking very sharp there, Nyankodevice! :)

Yikes, those prints are crazy beautiful, I wonder how long they actually take to print, and how much the printer sands them once they're done.  Do you know what type of plastic they're printed with?  I would assume either PLA or ABS, but I know printers are getting fancier in the types of available materials.  The one I'm using can do nylon and PETG with the right settings.

NB4M, thanks for sharing the prints with us. I have to agree they are the best looking, whole set of ships. Not only that, but they have the size to back up the scale of how enormous the design is. Your SDF-1 came out great too. That pose is funny; it looks like it's dancing! ..."And jazz hands everyone!"

Clean paint Nyankodevice! He'll look sharp when done.

This month's (meets this week) modeler's club meeting theme is "Go Big or Go Home." I'm working on my ship partly for that, and partly for my personal creativity. We'll, I'm going to miss getting anywhere near having my ship done, but we have an "Amnesty Night" coming in August of next year. Hopefully I'll be done by then!

I got two big things accomplished this weekend. First, I ordered a complete inert round for the 76mm Oto Melara (also Strales - Oto Melara) cannon on ships. It will be part of the ship's stand. Second, I completed the buck and made a vacuum-formed pull of it for the cannon turret. The first photo shows the unevenness of the plastic on the sides before sanding. I had to make cuts in the side for it to come off the mold. The turret is not done yet nor are the metal cannon parts, but should look like the attached when done.

It's an ugly turret, but the only thing I could get with enough room for the cap gun parts to fit into. It will almost be like driving around a Corvette Stingray with a toolbox stuck to the hood. It will break up the lines, but will function.

Keep up the great builds you all are doing! - MT

MechTech, awesome work!  I was going to argue with you about the turret and tell you it'd look fine.  That was before I saw your picture of the design in the real world!  If it's based on the real thing, well, end of story!

Great shots of ongoing projects, everyone.

My own progress has been very slow. Managed to get an hour or so in on the DC missile project last night.

IMG_20190815_195900.thumb.jpg.ac49f1847ba0b64cf0c1f81c2d99d1b4.jpg

For anyone who hasn't seen previous posts, I'm using the Hasegawa VF-1 Weapons set in 1:48 scale to fit to the Bandai DX VF-1 toy.

I've decided the magnet mounts for the missiles was a fun little mini project but it's just a bit too tedious to continue on the other three pylons.  It's also very tricky to get the alignment just right and in the end, I figure it'll be easier to just glue the silly things in place and call it a day.

Next step is to putty over the 3d printed adapters.  The gorilla glue on the first test worked but it's a bit softer than I'd like.  I think I'll use miliput on the rest of these and if possible, do some very light panel lines or something.

I really like the idea you have for the magnetic missile mounts!

Ont he note of updates: decided to redo the body work and paint job of my "Alien Starship One" kitbash/ scratchbuild. I tried rounding the edges off a bit more, and doing the hull in "burned green/grey" colors more in keeping with how it would look during entry into Earth's atmosphere:

These are a bit sharper, but also wash the color out too much:

What is your sanding process to eliminate the 3D print lines? I always struggle with anything printed to come out smooth.

Have you tried gap filling primer? Several coats of that should eliminate most of the lines to minimize sanding.

Nice pengbuzz!

I appreciate efforts to flesh out underrepresented mechs and art.

Now I gotta look up some ASS1 imagery to remind myself.

Yeah; mine is pretty much what I think the ship looked like. I know that artwork was produced for DYRL (I think), but I thought th ship looked a bit too "lumpy".

Depending on the type of print, this might work really well, but I don't think it will substitute for actually removing certain ridges.  In the prints I've done, the ridges between layers are very fine, and would probably disappear under a thick coat of paint, but the vertical waves in the material due to the motion of the printer head can be much more severe, and will need sanding.  This can be mitigated a little by finely tuning the speed of the print head, but some of the larger prints I've done had a texture like corrugated metal.

On the other hand, if you ever get the urge to print yourself a Ju-52, the texture might wind up being beneficial.

What kind of printer do you have?
