May be it was uncorrect word. It's not repaint or something else, i'm not so good for this. When i recieved my 31s chogokin i started to think that new bandai releases looks much better visual to compare with old(frontier releases) for me. So i started to visual improve my frontier chogokins. First of them was my first chogokin, i  bought from a friend abot year ago so it was first candidate for training. I disassembled it, fixed leg joints, panellined and covered with matte varnish. Vissually it began to look like i bought version 2 of yf-29 :D Then i made same with my 25a, and couple days ago i recieved my new year present for me - RVF-171. Same things - panellined and matte varnish, yestarday it was finished and i assemble it back again. Only left my CF-171, which is panel lined, but not covered with matt, because it waiting for new triangles T_T.

yf-29 black panel lined with tamiya tamiya panel line accent color

vf-25a black panel lined and second layer gray

cf-171 black

rvf-171 gray.

Left finished matt shield from yf-29, right panel lined shield from vf-25a

You are correct when you say updating! Those Nightmares, Messiahs, and Durandal look fantastic!

Man! I get to work on my model and miss some great builds and good ideas! Lots of great stuff guys! And happy belated New Year too!

Starting Christmas 2018, I finally started on the scratch built ship model. Months back it started as a card stock cutout after drawing it 2D for design. Everything is low tech for now. The bottom is one piece of styrene that was actually cut and folded (after lengthening it). Then came the ribs. I'm using cleaned up carbon fiber arrow shafts on sale for $4 at the local sporting goods store. They give stiffness and are so light. The ship will be 40 inches long and have three jet drives. The last photo is CFS (Cat For Scale). - MT

I KNEW this was yours Mechtech! Even before I read the post and had only seen the pictures!  Looks awesome man!

Thank you guys! Snow day today! So I got some minor work done aligning the water jets. I'm now cleaning up some arrows for clean shafts to go on the underside. - MT

Your finishes are always so smooth Electric Indigo!

There's sides on it now! The gaps will become "steps" to provide stability and add lift to get it on a plane. - MT

Its quiet over here at MW today! The lifting strakes are now done. It was a pain bending them to fit and then using a ton a glue to seal them down. A whole day of sanding just to clean them up and the other joints. Where you see a visible joint is a lot of glue. The top of the bow is just sitting on to measure the rest of the top sides. - MT

electric indigo, I'd like to see more pics of that 25.

Mechtech doesn't need to buy any models, he just builds his own!!!

I feel like we're finally making some progress here.

The cannons are finished.  I sculpted some styrene blocks to match the contours/ledges of the ammunition feeds that already existed on the Mk II cannons.  Then, I fared them in with a bit of Bondo and Gorilla rubberized CA.  I also added a ejection port because I figured even caseless ammunition would need to be cleared in the event of a misfeed:

The cockpit preshaded and basecoated:

Aircrew basecoated:

Aircrew highlighted and shaded.  I also did some additional gold and green glazes until I got that First Cylon War color for the flightsuit.  Sorry, but the camera flash washes that out a bit:

Finally the cockpit received an oil wash, drybrushing and some light chipping to make it look a little lived in.  It is curing a bit right now but it will receive a flat coat and have the MFD, DRADIS and instrumentation masks removed:

That's all I have for now.  Comments and criticisms welcome.

I Just got a set of 1/35 Kaiyodo Ma.K SAFS / Snakeeyes.

The clean-up is relatively easy, but I hate the huge gaping holes they have in their legs. I've been filling them first with Milliput super-fine and then fixing the imperfections with Mr. Dissolved putty.

After I finish these last two These colorful eggs will be primed and will get some more SD3d-appropriate paint schemes.

I love these tiny capsule-toy model kits. They even came with full decal sheets in the capsules.

This is a new lighting scheme I've been working on a 1/72 vf-1.

The control panels are clear parts blocked off with little square pieces of masking tape, then primed thick in black and gray, painted with clear paints, and lit with one smd led.

The cockpit screen has three smd leds separated with bits of styrene.

All clear parts are sanded down to diffuse the light.

I finished up the first of my 1/35 Kaiyodo Gachanen Safs figures. Here's a comparison of it to the good-ole Hobby-Base blind-box fig from 2002.

Hobby Base is on the left, the Kaiyodo I painted up on the right.

1 Down, 39 more to go....haha.....damn you w40k army-building sickness

Arbit, that LED sequence is great!

Duymon, nice finishes on those.

Derex, the decanting is a lot of work, but it looks like you have a smooth finish going on.

I forgot to take photos of my plane, but as part of our club build, we each built a 1/48 scale warbird and finished it in a NASCAR paint and decal scheme. The 13 foot track the club built is awesome with all the planes on it. I'll have to post photos when I get them.

Then I built a 1/72 Osprey with hooks on it. We had to take our models and run them along a cable to make carrier landings using the hooks and a tailhook. I built the Osprey (only plane I had in the right size) and the other photo shows our "carrier deck." It was actually a lot of fun and something different for a change.

Back on the ship now. It is taking forever, but it is a PAIN making everything aligned right and getting rid of seams. I'm sure you can see all the clear super glue joints used to fill the gaps a lot of the complicated angles create. Next time I'm drawing this in 3D and cutting parts out digitally. That's it for now. - MT

Little masking, little painting, little buffing, little assembly...onwards and upwards :)

Looking beautiful so far!  Keep in mind the gaps that might need filling on the B-Wing, mainly the back end of the cockpit pod, and around the big intake on the front of the engine block.  They're completely uncharacteristic for Bandai's kits, but those seams are eye-sores on the one I built.

Posted

Funny you should mention that @Chronocidal.  I tried a test fit of the parts at the back of the cockpit pod last night and yeh, they don't go together well at all!  As you said, very uncharacteristic for Bandai SW kits. Thanks for the heads up on the front engine block as well!

Yeah, I don't get why they couldn't make the entire thing a single piece, and had to do the pod in so many segments.

Far as the engine block goes, they did the kit a disservice by having such a huge flat plate sitting against another flat plate.  The main engine block or intake should have had some kind of collar to neatly seal around the opposite part, but there's literally nothing to stop it from leaving a gap wide enough to see through.

Unfortunately, it also doesn't help that the pegs on the front of the engine block are oversized, and don't let the intake seat well.  I had to file mine down, and due to the way the engine block is built up, I had to remove the exhaust assembly and reach inside of the hull with a flat wooden dowel to apply direct pressure to the back side of the intake block to press it into place.

Honestly, you may be better off cutting off the mounting pegs, sanding both the back of the intake and front of the engine block perfectly flat, and just mounting it with glue.  That whole assembly was a pain.

I should have thought of that for my Hurricanes and Spitfires when I was 15.  Unfortunately they ended up as target practice!

Man I wish I had enough room in my place to build big stuff like that Boat mechtech's got.

if I did I'd fill it with more Safs :0

Been on a maschinen krieger bender. Just made a new squad from those 1/35 gachanen kits. Never thought I'd have so much fun doing little 2.5" tall egg soldiers.
